"CEO To Workers: I May Fire You If Obama Wins"

"Vote for Candidate X or I may fire you" is being a condescending, egotistical, manipulative prick no matter how you slice it.

A responsible businessman would make plans for either candidate being elected, do what he can to adapt if taxes are raised, and if jobs must be cut, you make an announcement then. You don't try to guilt or threaten your employees into voting only for the candidate you support.

that's NOT what he said. he didn't say VOTE FOR MITT OR I"LL FIRE YOU. . . . he's simply stating that if obama wins then there will be consequences (that may or may not ever be the same)

Like I said "vote for Candidate X or I MAY fire you."

This guy is way out of line. This is why we need government mandated programs that provide basic benefits to American workers. Scumbags like this simply want to suck as much life out of their workforce as possible in a never ending effort to hoard more wealth. They are too greedy to provide even basic benefits for their workers. Let me guess his reasoning: "I'm rich and don't need assistance for my healthcare or any other basic needs so nobody else should either. Oh and by the way, I'm not going to pay my employees enough so that they can afford to purchase these services for themselves in the free market either. HAHAHA Suckers. It's your own fault for not being rich like me!"

This is a terrific example of the "job creators" myth. We've given people like him how many tax breaks over the last decade? And he's still threatening a massive workforce reduction simply because a Democrat is elected president? How is that democratic? This guy is unpatriotic at best and a bottom-feeding lowlife at worst.

My distain of the english people . Butchering their language is the american way . I just take it up another level. When you learn proper english get back to me .

So is English your native language? I don't mean to be the Grammar Police, but your posts are so incoherent that's not even clear whether you are a native Earthling.

Kinda like my wife's old boss...hasn't given anyone a raise since Obama's been in office, and refuses to, since he's convinced Obama will take his livelihood. Never mind he takes home $800K per year and has never made more money than now.

Read the entire letter. He is spot on absolutely correct. He explained it to his workers, what Obama is doing and what he will continue to do if he is elected. After hearing the truth from the owner about how this failed president's failed policies directly impact their livelihood one would be a fool to vote for obama.

This is particularly true:
You see, I can no longer support a system that penalizes the productive and gives to the unproductive. My motivation to work and to provide jobs will be destroyed, and with it, so will your opportunities. If that happens, you can find me in the Caribbean sitting on the beach, under a palm tree, retired, and with no employees to worry about.

Certainly I would like to have the money to build a giant, hideous house, though I wouldn't use my money that way. I don't see how that has anything to do with what I wrote.

Where is the critical thought in your post? You seem to do nothing here but mock other posters and the President. I don't recall a single post of substance by you.

Huh. I really thought you'd get a response here.

I do hope it's coming.

With regards to Siegel, I saw the documentary about his financial ups and downs. The guy really is messed up. I hope he uses some of his wealth for therapy. His depression is awful for his family and himself.

Sending an email like that to employees is a pure douchebag move, whether he supports Romney or Obama is irrelevant.

But this is David Seigel... the poster child for debt and mismanagement. David Seigel... the guy who claims he single-handedly got Bush elected. The same guy who got huge tax cuts then whose excessive spending almost bankrupted him. The same guy who let dog shit accumulate on his mansion floor after he laid off his household staff to save money.

What an asshole. Karma is a fickle bitch. Not surprised by the FUD peddling taxes going up bullshit gotta fire everyone sheep tripping over themselves to post stupid replies here though... This guy is lying as usual and even though it's obvious some are choosing to pretend that Obama's policies will be the nail in the coffin that is his empire. 🙄 These kinds of threads are like throwing chum in the dumb pool. Pulls up the trickle down chair... waits for the if only he had MORE tax breaks, he could use the money to hire more people crowd to chime in. I can't believe this guy has the balls to still be playing the trickle down card after everyone knows his story. This guy cares about one person, David Seigel. May the great fuck be upon him and his palace...

The writer of that letter was in the recent Documentary "Queen of Versailles", which started out as rich people trying to build the biggest house in the USA. Unfortunately while filming the financial crisis hit and he went from a billionaire to a 100 millionaire and the documentary became about the Mega-uber Rich becoming only Uber-rich.

In a version of Romney's "47 percent" remarks, Siegel added that "people like me who made all the right decisions and invested in themselves are being forced to bail out all the people who didn't. The people that overspent their paychecks suddenly feel entitled to the same luxuries that I earned and sacrificed 42 years of my life for."

Is very telling because he didn't have any savings. Originally the house they were building was being paid in cash. Once his businesses stopped bringing in money he had to mortgage his unbuilt house to get some income.

In the documentary he complains that other people got bailed out, but he didn't. Since he's in real estate I'd wager that he personally benefited from some of the recent government real estate programs.

It's funny that someone who didn't save any money and wagered all his money on the housing bubble "made all the right decisions", someone who asks for government bailouts for his bad decisions dislikes "being forced to bail out all the people who didn't." Someone who spends more then 100 million dollars building the biggest house in the USA only to run out of money before the house is complete dislikes "people that overspent their paychecks suddenly feel entitled to the same luxuries that I earned."

Yes it is. Probably not illegal, but also likely counter-productive.

This. I don't know if I would've availed myself of his companies products or services had I not heard his little diatribe but having heard it I will definitely not use his companies products or services.

"Job creators"...Thank Frank Luntz for that "label".

This guy is un-American. He's basically blackmailing his employees.
While Westgate has never been more profitable, the company has 5,000 fewer workers than in 2007.

So, he's found with 5,000 fewer employees, the company is more profitable than ever before. I'm sure the fewer workers are working much harder than before to make up some of the slack (but, I doubt they don't get paid more to compensate for it).

He's an asshole, whether he's a brilliant, hard working business success or not, as a person, he's an asshole.

I should know better than to read P&N when I'm tired. All I can think of is how great it will be 100 years from now when all of us are dead. The bullshit will continue, naturally, but this guy will be stone dead. So will you. So will I. The circle of life cleanses the rage.

Does this sound like voter intimidation to anyone else?

The man says it's not...

but the tone of the article sure suggests so.

What do you guys think (I think I already know what the answer will be and whether it's OK or NOT - depending on the side of the aisle).

I personally think that this is crossing the line and is pure intimidation. And as for the comments about making it on your own paycheck instead of relying on the government, maybe if you (Mr. CEO) paid your employees a little better, they wouldn't need as much government, eh?

Yes, we should have a law against free political speech in this country. The nerve of this guy.

Makes me wonder how many thousands of people worked building that house? Private construction job and the haters in here go ape shit that some guy built a big/huge/giant house.

This guy's story of greed and excess is pathetic. His recent audacity is just the icing on the cake.

Westgate Resorts is the name of the firm, really should have been mentioned in the OP. I certainly don't intend to support that tyrant.

Does this fool know who promised to close all the tax loopholes? Mr. R!

not much different than our vice president telling blacks "They're going to put you all back in chains" imo...

I would not take issue with him building a giant house, but for the fact that he is so self-pitying in that email. By all accounts, despite all his talk about self-reliance and responsibility, he massively overleveraged himself trying to build the largest house in US history (including, among other things, 3 swimming pools and a 4,000 square foot closet!), then was left hanging when the economy tanked and fewer people wanted to (foolishly) invest in timeshares. He and his wife seem like thoroughly obnoxious human beings.
