I was born raised and indoctrinated Roman Catholic, and served as an altar boy for 7 years. I also attended French Catholic boarding school during my youth, however I left the Church in my late teen because of what I witnessed and studied. I was drafted at 13 year old to fight the Khmer Rouge/Pol Pot.

My family and I escaped the War/Communist when I were 13.

Let's look at your article.

The activists toured the streets near Geula neighborhood in taxicabs and announced, using megaphones that on some streets men and women should walk on opposite sides of the road during the weekend.

Noted the bolded sections. Some nuts with homemade signs and megaphones calling for separation in some parts of a city for a day is hardly a society, but thanks for playing. Also, your assertion that there were Christians and atheists in the crowd is strictly your guess, supplemented by your supposed Coptic friend who is "100% sure". It's possible, but as Egypt is 90% Muslim and the crowds were widely attacking people as "Jews" it's not at all certain.

For the record: this was probably not a rape, as evidenced by the lack of immediate medical treatment and one supposedly inside source story. This was a savage beating of the kind doled out to many others not Egyptian/not Muslim, of the kind many Westerners have endured trying to cover this story, combined with a groping. My best guess is that had she looked Egyptian and had her hair covered like a good Muslim, she probably wouldn't have been beaten. I don't blame Islam for this, but it's inescapable that Islamic cultures, on average, have much less tolerance for other religions, and much less respect for women as people, than do non-Islamic cultures, on average. You can argue that this is in spite of Islam rather than due to Islam - although Muhammad's own actions greatly weaken that argument - but you cannot deny that it is so.
