I guess we'll just have to disagree about the definition then. My definition of rape has always been "forcible sexual intercourse". It's an academic matter. My definition doesn't mean that penetration by an object isn't horrible or that we should feel less sympathy for someone who is a victim of that nor that the perpetrators shouldn't be punished.

In your case it goes beyond a disagreement over definitions. You were also trying to act like they accidentlally fingered her when they were trying to tear her apart. Why is it so hard for you to believe that a mob of muslim men with horrible views on women would try to gang rape her? If she wasn't penetrated with a penis (which really doesn't change much IMO) it was probably because they weren't even calm enough to allow one guy to mount her.

If I were a woman, I would never want to be on the ground amidst a mob during any kind of celebration/protest.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this sounds like the "boys will be boys" argument. This isn't just any celebration / protest. This was a time when the Egyptian people were supposed to be showing the world that they were a modern peaceful people and not a backwards scumbag country. After all, all their problems were the fault of their corrupt leaders right? All the pundits who were saying how the proud people of Egypt were sending a message to the world didn't understand what message was being sent.

Was anyone raped during the OBL Death celebrations? Do Americans rape people on the national mall during the fireworks?

See my above statement, I clarified it a bit. I agree with you completely.

I commend her strength in coming out to talk about this.

Yes it needed to be done as so many people doubted her and the initial story. It must be awful to talk about the gritty details (like those animals being turned on by her screams) but people need to know the truth.

Although the OBL story is a more important story, it's really too bad Logan's tragedy has been overshadowed completely.

Not my habit of trashing a nation, but egyptians are no
civilized people...
I originate from a country that they hate for childish
and almost irrationnal reasons, but the truth is that
they have an inferiority complex related to their
skin color and other rubbish physical perceptions....

Oh, I'm actually surprised that she wasn't raped. I don't think what they did was accidental at all nor did I ever imply that.

Out of curiousity, if someone forcibly rammed a dildo up your ass would you be annoyed if someone kept referring to it as non-rape?

Infohawk: Let it go. As has been pointed out several times already rape is a legal term specifically defined in each jurisdiction. All that was pointed out to you is that some (actually many) jurisdictions require pentration with the male sex organ as an essential element of the definition of rape. It doesn't really matter what your personal perception of rape is in the end-what matters is the applicable legal definition (and it is safe to say none of us know Eygptian law). The people you are picking fights with are not claiming the acts against her were anything but heinous (except for the "groped" idiot)-you are arguing a dispute where none actually exists.

His point is to trash all muslims for the acts of a few egyptian mobsters since he defines them as muslims, nor as egyptians, neither as mobsters..

You're wrong about "many." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laws_regarding_rape#United_States
"In most states, the definition of rape is broad, with respect to genders and the nature of the acts involved.[37]" If you're going to rebut this don't bother unless you want to quote all 50 states' laws regarding rape or you are willing to cite to a respected legal treatise that says most states in the US require penetration by a penis.

And if you think the discussion is not worth it then don't join in. I just quoted the groping guy as one example but there were many many comments like that and I will be quoting them at my leisure so that they can feel properly owned. Frankly, it's embarrassing that so many people's initial response to this is that "this is not rape." I'm not sure if they just want to sound smart by acting like they know the state of the law on rape in this country (when they don't) or if they really just don't think it's that big of a deal.

I gotta side with InfoHawk on this. To say she wasn't raped just doesn't sit well or make sense to me. But then again I am one of those oddballs that thinks rape is penetration by force, with the organ or object used being secondary.

If I am wrong, then someone who is impotent can't rape a woman, even if he used a Ron Jeremey Dildo 2000 Deluxe© with the optional studs and ribbing. Would that not be rape as well?

Shouldn't you hold yourself to the same standard? You're quoting Wikipedia which is quoting an obscure legal dictionary website.

You can see that the definition is from Merriam Webster's Dictionary of Law from 2001. I know you disagree with everything the dictionary but I'm not worried about convincing you of anything.

I'm sorry, but that is not a respected legal treatise.

Well there are reports that they started calling her a jew so excuse me for jumping to the conclusion that in the majority Muslim country it was Muslim men behind this. So yeah this reflects poorly on Egyptian Muslim men.

In addition to trying to say she wasn't really treated all that badly (groped for example), apologists in this thread have already argued that this was simply something that could happen anywhere in the world. I'm guessing you are using this argument too. (I suspect English isn't your native language so your use of "mobsters" is ambiguous. Usually "mobster" means "organized criminal." I am guessing you meant to refer to them as people in a mob.) The problem is that this wasn't just any old mob. This was characterized as a democratic outcry for freedom with noble Egyptians standing up for the ideals of democracy in the Muslim world. Oops. It wasn't really like that. Instead a group of more than 100 men gangraped a reporter. It's not like it was some small criminal group that did this in secret behind a dumpster. It was in fucking Tahrir Square. I contend this does not happen in civilized countries. If you can point me to the French gangraping women on the Champs-Elysees during Bastille day or latin americans gangraping women in public squares during their national celebrations I may just change my mind.
