You're confusing rape with a gang rape in a public square. Nobody is saying rape doesn't happen in the US (ridiculous straw man). The idea that someone would be gang raped in Time Square or on the National Mall is fairly absurd. So really "this" doesn't happen here.

First one that comes to mind is woodstock 99 and a gang rape.

Do you really think a rape during a limp bizkit concert is similar to a rally for democracy? Really?

Thousands of people around and nobody stopped it.
I know I could google a lot more examples but you'll just move the goalposts
This is not a Muslim thing, no matter how much your mind wants it to be.

Feel free to keep googling and get back to me when there is something remotely similar as opposed to some scumbag concert or gangrape in a ghetto. I bet you think flying planes into buildings isn't a Muslim thing either...

Yes, I am very sure flying planes into buildings is not a Muslim thing.
This is almost insane.

My dad escaped the North Communist (was drafted at 13~14 year old and was in the army for several months) in 1954 and moved South as a teen. He is Atheist and his family were Vietnamese Nationalist Party supporters, and all were educated in Paris/France.

My mother parents are South Vietnamese and are Atheist (her father served as a translator for the French & Japanese). My mother convert to Catholic in her early teen as it was a "cool" thing to do. My dad convert to Catholic so that he could marry my Catholic fundi mother.

I was born raised and indoctrinated Roman Catholic, and served as an altar boy for 7 years. I also attended French Catholic boarding school during my youth, however I left the Church in my late teen because of what I witnessed and studied. I was drafted at 13 year old to fight the Khmer Rouge/Pol Pot.

My family and I escaped the War/Communist when I were 13.

What? No it's not. It's perfectly acceptable for women in western society to use their femininity and sexuality to manipulate others into getting what they want. Even if you're not comfortable with it, it doesn't justify sexual assault.
I didn't say it justify the sexual assault, however it suggests that Logan pushes all boundary just for a story that at times may put herself in harm way.

That is essentially meaningless and irrelevant to this story. How she ended up there has nothing to do with her getting assaulted.

All reporters tend to put themselves in harms way. If you think that's a problem, I could easily be persuaded to support a total ban on press coverage in the middle east.

I'm an atheist too, but I at least have the good sense to know that Islam is the greatest threat to EVERYONE in this world. Look at how tolerant Muslims are to atheists compared to any other religion. Why would you support that?

Are you still talking after your HILARIOUS "Nobody is harassed in US churches!"?

Thank goodness you're still barking.

--------------------------

Speaking about "A Muslim's way, or the highway/coffin"....

"Those who believe (in the Qur'an), those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Sabians and the Christians,- any who believe in God and the Last Day, and work righteousness,- on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve."
The Qur'an – 5:69 (and repeated at 2:62)

--------------------------

What about those who don't believe in any of that?

"Say : O ye that reject Faith! I worship not that which ye worship, Nor will ye worship that which I worship. And I will not worship that which ye have been wont to worship, Nor will ye worship that which I worship. To you be your Way, and to me mine."
The Qur’an, 109:1-6

--------------------------

Talking about "Our way or the high way":

"Say, 'The truth is from your Lord': Let him who will believe, and let him who will, reject (it)"
The Qur’an, 18:29

--------------------------

Again, talking about "Our way or the high way"

"Let there be no compulsion in religion"
The Qur'an 2:256

------

But hey, JEDIYoda, keep the hate alive! I can't imagine how you used to "manage" the Anand forums unopposed, spreading your "very informative" trash all over the place.

And dear everyone else: It wasn't a rape, it wasn't a gang rape. It was a groping. It was horrible. Despicable. Disgraceful. But not a rape. Thank you.

Please stop with all the Jihad talk and Koran quotes. Like I said before, I don't want this site to end up getting caught by the web filter at my office.

Wow, that's a great story. Congrats to you and your family for escaping Communism and war. It's hard for us to even imagine being drafted at 13!

1) Yes there are "Jewish or Christian societies" where -as a matter of fact- women aren't allowed to WALK on the same side of the street. Talk about "driving". Need a link? Christian societies are too easy. Here's one from a Jewish society:

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3759554,00.html

They actually took it one step further, with "no women allowed" signs and everything.

Oh, and you DO know that the Burqa can actually be traced back to Jewish practices, right?

2) I see that you fail to understand the difference between "Islam" and today's so called "muslim societies". Perfect.
Let's look at your article.
A group of ultra-Orthodox men took to the streets of the haredi neighborhoods in Jerusalem last Friday and called on the public to adhere to a complete separation between men and women in certain areas of the city.

The activists toured the streets near Geula neighborhood in taxicabs and announced, using megaphones that on some streets men and women should walk on opposite sides of the road during the weekend.

According to a resident of the neighborhood, Avraham Cohen, those responsible for the initiative belong to the extremist Neturei Karta stream. "The leading rabbis of the ultra-Orthodox public do not support this initiative," he said. "This group decided to on their won accord go into the neighborhoods and set new modesty codes."

However, eyewitnesses said that although the segregation had not been sanctioned by prominent spiritual authorities, most passersby heeded the call last Saturday. "During the noon hours when women go out for a stroll and the men go to the synagogue, men and women walked on different sidewalks," one resident said.

But the same level of separation was reportedly not observed on the busy Friday, when the streets are regularly packed with crowds.
Noted the bolded sections. Some nuts with homemade signs and megaphones calling for separation in some parts of a city for a day is hardly a society, but thanks for playing. Self-ownage is always amusing for the rest of us. (And I'm sure the burqa is traced back to the Jews - by Muslims, who take blame for nothing they do.)

Also, your assertion that there were Christians and atheists in the crowd is strictly your guess, supplemented by your supposed Coptic friend who is "100% sure". It's possible, but as Egypt is 90% Muslim and the crowds were widely attacking people as "Jews" it's not at all certain.

For the record: this was probably not a rape, as evidenced by the lack of immediate medical treatment and one supposedly inside source story. This was a savage beating of the kind doled out to many others not Egyptian/not Muslim, of the kind many Westerners have endured trying to cover this story, combined with a groping. My best guess is that had she looked Egyptian and had her hair covered like a good Muslim, she probably wouldn't have been beaten. I don't blame Islam for this, but it's inescapable that Islamic cultures, on average, have much less tolerance for other religions, and much less respect for women as people, than do non-Islamic cultures, on average. You can argue that this is in spite of Islam rather than due to Islam - although Muhammad's own actions greatly weaken that argument - but you cannot deny that it is so.

Details emerge on Lara Logan attack

Logan was attacked by thugs, who reportedly dragged her away from her news team during public celebrations of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak’s resignation. Logan was reportedly stripped and beaten for a half hour, leaving her covered in welts and wounds. Logan also endured “aggressive pinching,” the Times reported, citing American sources.
