Neither knows their names, the always scratch shit up, and they 'play' fight each other all the time. One always attacks my damn hair and scratches the hell out of me. I'm not mean to either of them. When we are eating, they jump on the table. I pick them up, put them down and they come back. So I shove them off. Still come back. A dog, if it does this, will learn if you smack it's nose and harshly say no. A cat, doesn't. Dogs also quickly learn their names, and respond. Cats don't. Dogs get very excited and happy when you come back after work/school. Cats don't, they have that stuck up nature and ignore you.

Those are the few reasons why cats are dumb. I will give on prop to cats though: they learn to use the litter box very quickly (ie. potty trained)

And like caveman said: Dogs are man's best friend for a reason. Protection, hunting, working, life saving, detect cancer, companionship, law enforcement, therapy, people assist, problem solve, etc... Cats do NONE of these, and can't.

Sounds like you just have a chip on your shoulder. I have NEVER met a cat that doesn't know its name, a properly trained cat doesn't scratch inappropriate things (just like a properly trained dog doesn't shit on the carpet), and if the cat is scratching the hell out of you, you're either abusing it or it's psychotic, and there are PLENTY of psychotic dogs.

The problem is either you our your roommate are bad pet owners.

And cats serve a very useful purpose: protecting grain supplies from pests.

buwhahahaah that is better than Protection, hunting, working, life saving, detect cancer, companionship, law enforcement, therapy, and people assistance?

:D

Quite obviously cats are smarter than dogs.

/thread

Nope I saw a dead cat on the side of the road yesterday.

/thread open still
Damn! :disgust:

If you like having food to eat, yes, it is....duh.

Unless you're a nomad, you have way more practical use for a cat than a dog.

Cats ridiculously smart? Please explain.

Dogs are man's best friend for a reason. Protection, hunting, working, life saving, detect cancer, companionship, law enforcement, therapy, assist people with disabilities, problem solve, training partner, chick magnets, etc...

My cats were very smart. They will wait for hours for the birds to come to them. They would never follow us into an open field without trees because they would have no way to escape. They would open doors with their paws. And they can take care of themselves.

Dogs are dirty and do damage to the house. Cats are cleaner, tend to be more nimble. They don't need constant attention, but they do have that nasty litter box.

Yup. We go to a lot of trouble to build walls to keep animals out, then invite the filthiest in.

I have a cat and a dog. Can't say that I really prefer one over the other.

They both have their positives and negatives.

Oh yeah. Dogs are totally the filthiest, way worse than pigs, cows or horses. Totally, the filthiest animals.

Say, do you design "push polls" for the Religous Right Inc. ?
Because you should, your answers suck that bad....

Only an idiot forces an either or choice, because if you're going to force me to choose between my dogs and my cats, I'm going to choose both, and screw you.

I took the whole thread and the poll to be tongue-in-cheek. I don't want to speak for the OP, but I wouldn't take this so serious. I think it's all in fun.

I've had good cats AND dogs. I like dogs more, but am I the only one who doesn't automatically hate cats because they prefer dogs? There's a lot of cats that suck, but there's a ton of dogs that are annoying as fuck too.

Tell that to a blind person or someone that needs a dog to let them know a seizure is coming or someone in need of a search/rescue or to detect illegal contraband and so on.

And plenty of dogs could be used to protect grain from pests. Terriers, Dachshunds, etc are all rodent hunters.

Cats are much more efficient hunters of rodents than any dog, and I never disputed that dogs are useful, just that cats have a lot of utility.

Cat owners OTOH aren't such desperate wretches, so cats are perfectly fine pets for them.

Tell this to all the lonely women with cats... Cat owners are pathetic as a whole.

Cats win.

Dogs are too high maintenance...

(and I didn't vote in your poll cuz it hurt my feelings)

also, there's no way this is the first poll on this.

Obviously the work of someone who loves slobbering, flea encrusted, careless, can't learn to shit in a box, loud, annoying, smelly, bony, loves to roll around in shit of any kind, stupid animals.

PS - my cat would destroy your dog in a fight.

Yeah for cats. But I have to say that I like them on a limited basis. I love my cat (which is basically a dog), but my wife's cat is a PITA.
