Oh really?
See the link for more bad doggy behavior facts.

lol, doesn't mean squat. dogs have potential, whether it to be trained for hunting, getting rid of rats, herding sheep, protecting property, leading the blind, rescuing people whether lost in the woods or in snow or disaster zones, hunting the criminals on the run. sure you can let a few go bad but its potential for good is so far beyond what a cat can do. cats are almost useless. esp in modern life.

Forgot to mention that they've been shown to be able to reason, detect cancer, protect people, detect illegal contraband/explosives, assist the handicap, etc...

Monkeys can do most of that too, and better. Just look at all the monkeys who are smart enough to post pointless crap on ATOT.

Coming from the man living in a trailer and believes his Monster Cables provide him with better sound.

Oh and please provide links that show that monkey's can do everything mentioned that dogs are capable of.

Thanks for proving my point.

Don't you have 8 miles to run on your treadmill today? Or did you park your PC in front of it so you can run at the keys at the same time while eating your banana?

 Wow, what a great come back. I also like how you bring in monkeys to compare to dogs b/c cats can't do any of the fore mentioned. Thanks for the links too!

A caveman searching for his missing links, who woulda thunk it! 😛

And as far as cats sniffing out chemicals or survivors their sense of smell is only 14 times or so better than humans, compared to 25 times or so for a dog. But if a dogs sense of smell or taste is so great, why do they often eat crap instead of food out of the bowls? 😕

And a small house cat trying to chase down a criminal would be joke. That is what you would train a tiger for. And you wouldn't have to train it very much to do that, either. 😉

And as far as training a cat to hunt or retrieve, you obviously can't train a cat to retrieve a duck that will weigh as much as the house cat. But as far as hunting goes, a cat could be trained to track anything you want it to using some kind of reward system. I don't see why that would not be possible. They are natural hunters, after all.

The small size of a house cat obviously will limit what you can expect it to do, but does not imply you can't train it to do it anyhow. And just like dogs, not all cats can be trained properly. It is up to the trainer to figure this out, and it is not species dependent.

What it really boils down to is this. Which creature is most likely to evolve into an advanced and intelligent being given enough time? A feline, obviously. A feline is many millions of years more evolved towards independent and intelligent thought than a canine is.

For a dog it don't take a whole lot of intelligence to follow a pack and obey. Many insects like ants and bees also obey and follow a similar pack mentality. A dog is controlled more by instinct and hormones than free will and intelligence. A dog is obviously stupid or neurotic enough to eat your face off if you happen to pass out next to it due to medical reasons or chemical ones. A dog will also turn on the owner and attack people unprovoked and unexpectedly and injure or kill children and adults they suddenly see as a threat to their pack hierarchy. These unfortunate attacks also happen a lot more often than dog owners would like to admit, too. But it also proves the inherently dangerous situation of having a dog and thus being its pack leader. But stupid people who don?t have a clue about the hierarchal pack mentality of a dog still insist on having large dogs around their children, because they wrongly assume the dog is a lot more intelligent than it really is.

A dog is a merely a semi intelligent pack animal which is entirely dependent on robotic pack behaviors for its survival. People breed dogs for aid in controlling livestock and hunting. People also like dogs because they feel a dog will alert them to danger or frighten people or animals away from them. Dogs were bred specifically for these aggressive pack animal defensive traits, cats were not. The only way you get this level of protection from a feline, is if you successfully tame a feral one, like a tiger or a cheetah or something.

Domestic cats, on the other hand, were tamed and bred by the Egyptians supposedly. They are useful for rodent and insect control. The Egyptians also revered and respected a cats independent thought traits which displays a high intelligence that is largely not controlled by pack mentalities, but rather by a mated pair and a matriarchal hierarchy.

Many dog lovers who also have unstable emotional issues in their lives also like the fact they can subdue and dominate a dog and it will remain stupidly loyal no matter what. In fact, gruesome scientific tests done on dogs over 50 years ago proved a dog will remain loyal even while being dismembered and tortured to death by its master. Is that really loyalty or merely ingrained genetic hierarchal pack behavior?

Dumb people frequently dislike the fact a cat can?t be subdued, controlled and abused by them, and thus naturally prefer dumb dogs. But in my experience it generally seems the lower the IQ the more likely it is that someone will gravitate to dogs rather than cats.

Smarter people on the other hand, can respect a cats intelligence and independent thought and don?t seek out a pet merely to dominate it because of emotional insecurity issues. Now obviously, not every dumb person has a dog, or smart person has a cat, and some people can see the strengths and weaknesses of both and like them equally. But generally I prefer cats over dogs. And the only dogs I like are the more intelligent acting breeds.
You have issues, sick snake.

Nice try man. But yahooanswers or some blog entry with any joe schmoe says yes is not real proof like - Can Dogs Smell Cancer? or Seizure-Alert Dogs Save Humans With Early Warnings

And a dogs sense of smell is 50 to 100 times better than a human.

And 'a cat can be trained to track anything you want it to using some kind of reward system'? Please stop making stuff-up. If they could, don't you think they would have been trained already? Or there would be a single example of this already?

I do find the cat being able to detect death is interesting. But cats have limited usefulness for humans. There is a reason why dog is man's best friend.

That being said, I love both. Except for small yappy ratdogs.

No kidding, what a stupid generalization. I wonder why so many cats get hit and killed by cars then.

Your dog just licked its crusty ass and wants to lick you in the mouth now. 😛

Usually they are getting chased by another cat or dog across the street. I almost hit several at different times before while they were being chased. Same thing happens to kids all the time when they run out into the street to get a ball or something and don't watch the traffic. And a kid is usually going to be smarter than a cat or dog.
