Catalyst 9.1 drivers are here!

My roommate's performance with these drivers is great. He has a 2.5Ghz Phenom X3 and a Radeon HD4850. From the 8.12 to 8.12 hotfix, his minimum framerates in Company of Heroes doubled. From the 8.12 hotfix to these 9.1 drivers, they doulbed again and now he doesn't drop below 30fps with maxed out settings. The multicore stuff is working quite well I'd say.

Not tried it on 2008 but I can tell you they are great on Vista x64 😉.

Well, It's been a while since I played Warhead but I started a new game when these drivers came out and I'm up to the cave part. Everything up to this part has been great. Lowest I see is about 20 fps but that is rare. In the ice levels i see about 25fps, jungles 30-35 and indoors 45-60. This is 1920x1200 dx10 gamer settings noAA as I have the 512 hd4870 and there is definately a frame buffer limitation going on when I enable AA.

Happy to say with a few days putting my machine through its paces, I haven't had a SINGLE issue with my dual monitors, no reset drivers, no atimkkv or whatnot errors, nothing. Just smooth, stable performance.

I probably just jinxed myself, but whatever. I'll take the risk.

COD WaW is still crashing my computer. It does a restart right in the middle of the game. Was really hoping 9.1 would fix this....

4870X2 on Vista 64, 6G RAM and evga X58 btw

Define "crashing your computer." Do you get a BSOD or does it just cycle power?

It resets the whole damn system. First time I've ever seen that in vista. It used to crash every once in a while and I'd get the "Driver stopped working and has recovered" but now it's all the way to restart. Weird.

Not a fan of the 9.1 drivers. For some reason updating to 9.1 made my overclock unstable, and I got plenty of atikmdag problems when playing L4D...back on the 8.12 hotfix and everything seems to be working just fine again.

I seem to be getting more CTDs in Fallout 3, though this is the longest time period I've played with either the 8.12s or the 9.1s. Seems to be intermittent too, I got two in the span of 15 minutes, then nothing for 2 hours.

Sounds like a PSU issue. What's the rest of the system like?

Just tried 1360 x 768. Worded fine for me.

Now that I have a real system, I finally was able to buy Crysis. My 4870 512MB runs just fine with the 9.1 drivers on XP SP3. I'm running at 1650 with all settings on max (except 2x AA) and it works great.

Anyone tried this on an HD television? It worked fine at 1920 x 1080, but I like to change the resolution to 768 normally since text is too hard to read from a distance at 1080. For some reason the 1360 x 768 res wasn't available so I decided to go back to 8.12.

Interesting idea. It's possible, but it doesn't seem right.

Hell, I just remembered I OC'd the vidcard to like 800MHz on core last week or something. It's probably just unstable.

That's what happens when they make OC'ing through CCC so easy. You get drunk, push your vidcard too hard, and then start blaming the system. I'll check it out.
