Reduce or eliminate the need to use sugar? And besides carrots are delicious.

Not to reduce or eliminate it, but because sugar was scarce and expensive way back when. Today, there's almost no reason for it to exist. I doubt that the scant amounts of carrots added today add much sweetness to a cake that already contains very large amounts of sugar.

The origins of carrot cake are disputed. Many food historians believe carrot cake originated from Medieval carrot puddings eaten by Europeans. This evolution is said to be originated during the Middle Ages when sugar and sweeteners were expensive for most individuals and often hard to find, so many people used carrots as a substitute for sugar

The popularity of carrot cake was revived in Great Britain because of rationing during the Second World War.

Actually since I'm type 2 diabetic carrot cake with no added sugars would be quite suitable for my consumption.

Carrot cake is an abomination towards cakes. I'm not sure what kind of famine the poor fuckers who invented the carrot cake were going through but it must have been brutal for them to look at a bunch of carrots and think "hey, that would be pretty tasty in a cake". How it has lived on while we are in non-famine times is beyond me. Carrots have no place in a freaking cake!!!!

carrot is like pumpkin: it's only as good as the spices that accompany it, which, strangely enough, are always the same between the two. When you say you like Carrot cake(or pumpkin anything), it means that you like a cinnamon/nutmeg/allspice-infused confection with those "little bits of orange" (or orange mush) included.

Carrot cake is superior to banana bread, but that's not a fair comparison. Anything with cream cheese frosting has an inherent advantage over anything without cream cheese frosting. If you want to make it a real fight, go with carrot cake vs banana cake. I have a recipe for banana cake made with sour cream in the batter and topped with cream cheese frosting. It comes out super moist and delicious and it's a worthy competitor for the very best carrot cakes.

Sacrilege comes from the Latin saccharo (sugar) and legere (to steal) meaning "the stealing of sweet things".

So, to wrap this up, allow me to speak ex cathedra: Carrot cake is superior to banana bread.

Well today HAS been a productive day!
