Wanted: Something that had better gas mileage than my '97 Elantra.

Getting: 2012 Subaru Impreza 2.0 Premium...whenever they arrive at dealerships, and the whole brake pedal recall thing is done. :\
Its gas mileage ratings, whatever they're worth, are slightly better than the Elantra, and it's got AWD.

I was looking for a sports car with a little practicality for $14k.

My choices were: 350z, RSX, GTO

I ended up getting a WRX because it was a deal I couldn't pass up.

I got a 2004 WRX with 40k miles fully loaded with all the mods I wanted without being too ricey and conservative tune to give it equal if not faster speeds than the other cars mentioned above.

It might not be my favorite car, but it's been the most useful fastest car that doesn't hurt the budget. $60 a month for insurance, 27mpg highway, seats 4, 280 ish power to the all wheels.

Got me through snow...

Wanted: Black 11th generation F-150 XLT SuperCrew or Cab 4x4 5.4l V8
Got: Tan 04 F-150 XLT SuperCab 2x4 4.6l V8

No regrets.

Wanted 2011 f150. Wasn't specific on features. Did want 20" wheels and super or Crewcab.

Bought 2011 f150 crew cab lariat. 17" wheels but I'll I've grown to like the 17's better. Better ride and better mpg.

Get a life dude, a differencein opinion is not threadcrapping.

Dude ... there is a difference in having an "opinion" and HAVING to be the center of attention and knowing it "all" when they post.

In that case ... you're the MAN!!!

In 1992 the kids were young, I was in debt and I had no gray. As I contemplated marriage I fell in love with (IMHO) what I considered to be one of the best, most beautiful cars I had ever seen ... the Lexus SC300/400. At that time a new SC was more than a years salary ... so it was just a dream.

In 2008 I came across a near mint SC400 with less than 50K miles for only a small fraction of original retail. In the 4 years that I've owned it I've had a few issues with it but overall it is VERY reliable for being 18 years old.

The styling of those still holds up great, IMO. Sad that so many 'round here (New England) have let the paint go flat; that's a car that needs to be shiny like no other. It just does not look right as an uncared for daily driver.

Yeah, I've always liked that model Toyota Soarer.

Wanted a loaded 2008 Mazda 3s 5 door (recommended by ATG at the time)
Got a 2008 VW GTI with DSG for ~2K more.

Much happier with the GTI.

+1

being a MKIV Supra owner myself, that particular generation SC w/ a 2JZ-GTE swap is something i've dreamed about adding to the stable for a long time now...the lines are so simple yet sleek.

Wanted something that got 10000mpg, could tow 20 tons, could carry 10 tons, could seat 10 people, awd, 0-60 in 1 second, over 1g in turns, and free.

Got 2 year old forester with 28k miles for 15K.
Went with "good enough" gas milage, good enough towing capacity, good enough capacity, good enough cargo area, good enough acceleration, and good enough handling....

Wanted Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.

Got lincoln mkx.

Atleast the next vehicle will be 100% what I want and not what the wife wants. right?

Nice!

Show us some picts!
i'll start my own thread one of these days...i'm just finishing a complete cosmetic overhaul, and while its 99% done, and the last 1% is taking forever b/c its unfortunately not a priority right now. whens its 100% done i promise to snap some pics and start a thread in the AT Garage...

Wanted: 2005 Mazda 3 Sport GX
Got: 2005 Honda Civic LX-G Sedan

Mazda dealer wouldn't budge on the price. Civic wasn't a hatch and had a smaller engine. I made the right decision though. More comfortable interior and better handling IMO.

First car:

Wanted: Lexus IS 300

Got: 2001 Lexus ES 300 (still current car)

What I really want/would already have if we didn't have a winter season: Mustang or a Vette.

wanted: X5 twin turbo I6 (now known as the 35i) and it's faster 0-60 than the 4.8i V8, and more efficient.

got: X5 3.0si because the aforementioned didn't come out for another 3 years and I couldn't wait (had twins coming and couldn't justify spending afterward).

Still pisses me off they didn't put it out sooner. The turbos have been in the 335/535s forever, and also the X6 since inception. Now they're single turbos, but whatever.
