You are a fine one to talk Etech. You flame and insult with the best of them here. I can understand the frustration you feel when you see someone post something that you believe is incorrect but I have personally seen you hijack a thread just to stop the discussion of a topic and to discredit the individual whose opinion you don't share. What blows my mind is that you are one of the most informed individuals here and you would do a lot better by just using your intellect and your knowledge to speak for you.

I admit that I can flame with the best Red as can you. But we are discussing a new policy for this board. And I admit the lies and distortions that some throw out here are fustrating to see and something that should be addressed if we are to raise the level of discussion on this board.

As for hijacking threads, I discuss what I find interesting or debate the points of the topic that are in dispute. If I divert a thread it is usually because the orginal topic was either played out or a lie or distortion.

Can we get this thread back on topic of what should and should not be allowed?

Right but do be careful with how you post sounds. It was pretty obvious that you were agreeing with freegeeks assesment of Dari and Galt - and then used the "non-specific" name. No judgement - just calling what I saw.

*****

I see I touched a nerve with some here - both good and bad. Hopefully all will realize that it isn't worth extending the flaming/name calling if it starts. I don't care who starts it - we all need to just let it go, and YES I will stop it;) - hopefully the rest of you will to.

Actually I was thinking about the US House of Representatives, "officially" changing the name of their french fries to "freedom fries". My God, please don't put thoughts into my own head; I can't help if somehow/somewhere the shoe fits for someone tho, it's not my problem to belabour.

Hey if a big flamer like me can resist flaming in this forum it should be easy for others to do the same. I can see mocking a view but is it really necessary to totally brate the individual? Most of the Conservatives here really have a problem with Moonies posts. Myself I rarely read their entirety because most of the time it's the same old rehash he has been posting sincve the 2000 elelctions. If the Moderates (like myself) don't bother reading them then why should the Conservatives worry about his posts? After all it's the Moderates whose opinion is most likely to be swayed here by a good argument/point, not Liberals like Moonie himself.

I have become quite weary of this forum as of late because of these reasons. Something REALLY needs to be done. I have seriously been considering leaving myself, even though I am a huge fan of political discussion and what this forum once was.

On another note, I have just noticed that the "Saddam Hussien Spies" thread (re: flamefest) has been locked. Is this a light at the end of our tunnel? Are we finally getting moderated to stop this insanity? One can only hope....

Here's an off-the-wall suggestion. Have the moderators moderate it. This place did OK in the beginning, when it was. Now we have a bunch of trolls who happen to be some of the more active posters and the moderation ceases out of fear that the 'activity' will decrease. How about if someone can't post without resorting to personal attacks, that person can't post anymore. And if there aren't enough members of Anandtech mature enough to keep a forum reserved for civil discussions of P&N 'active', close it down.

Or you can just give me the power to ban people. ;)

I don't see the big deal. If a guy tries to flame you, grow up and ignore him. What is this, 3rd grade?

I agree, Presence; some need that security blanket for some reason; it's easy for me to ignore posts, i don't know why some let things irk them so bad. We are adults.

as long as there are threads started with the sole purpose to bash on the French I will resort to flaming.
these threads are racist from nature and people like Dari are accusing me from being antisemite because I'm European.

you just have to look am my sigh to see what kind of people frequent this forum

you call me anisemite, i call you a trailerparktrash cattlehumper

simple

This is the problem.

if people like you and Dari would stop with dragging the French in EVERY thread, I'll stop flaming. It's that simple.
Well, let me ask you this then:

What is the difference between Galt asking for regime change in France because of the French incompetence during the heat wave versus "Bush is a Moron, Regime change now"?

the difference is that I (me personally) never started these threads. Dari and Galt make it a sport to start threads to bash the French just like a lot of people start threads to bash on Bush. I just respond in the French bash threads like you respond in the Anti-Bush threads.

Some time ago I started a thread about healthcare and as usual is ended in a flamefest - the difference between myself and others that I flame BOTH ends of the spectrum, in that particular thread I flamed that french Guydebordu troll but also people like Dari, Alistair7 etc... I don't see you reacting against someone who started a French bash thread. You keep quiet or you join the flamefest.

Please do a search on the threads I started.
Most stuf I start is something like "crazy mofo flies over channel with carbonfiber wing strapped to its back"
:D

what bothers me about this discussion is that some people in this thread with their holier then everything attitude are actually the people who start the flame-threads

In the end I don't care about the flaming, I have a thick skin and couldn't care less. It's a frigging internetforum - it's not real life --

[edit] being a lazy european evil commie treehugger, I only post from work - flaming someone and being paid for it = heaven ;)

We are exactly what you can see. The problem is everybody else's fault, not mine. We walk around with our halos in the clouds and our huge sore toes out in the aisle. Here I was posting God's Golden Truth and Stupido there stepped on my dainty little foot. I had to flame back to protect my buddy God. It's you assholes that teach the devils word that cause the trouble here. You blaspheme my Golden Truth, you swine. But please please don't ask me how I got to be so self important. Please oh double please don't show me how I look. Please please don't harm my Golden Truth. I'm nothing at all without my Golden Truth.

I agree with your point, but I don't know why you had to bring God into this. The same faults are found on both sides of the religious and political spectrums.

for once i would have to agree you ckg.
there are some in this forum that cant seem to stop the personal attacks.
either by childish name calling or by actually making crass statements about a person's appearence.
i dont think i have to name any names.
but that needs to stop.
if you cant think of anything else to say but than flame someone else for the way they look or how they choose to dress then you shouldnt reply, if that is all you can come up with.

I dont see what the big deal is, is this supposed to be a serious forum? No, its for computer people and people interested in computers. P&N is for entertainment. If anyone here is serious about discussing news and politics, than they need to find another forum.

I found another forum www.politicalforums.net the members are not as active but stay on topic.

Does anyone here write in other sites?

I can take credit for the self-policing suggestion CKG :) That's all I have to add, I've pretty much given up on this forum :)
