  He'd shun a conservative he considered to be that bigoted. But it's A-OK for him. They never see it in themselves. Their bigotry is always justified.

big·ot
bit/
noun
a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions.

I tolerate your opinions just fine! I don't like them but unlike you, I can handle people with different opinions hanging around while you want to deport them because you are a bigot. Maybe you should use a word you know the definition of, bigot.

I grew up in Texas and now live in California. Except for a nine year stint living in the midwest, I've been living in states with huge illegal immigrant population. I am no longer bitter or cynical about it. In fact I support these types of initiatives.

I like to think I am a realist. The fact is the illegals are here. The question is how best to manage them. Deporting everybody just isn't sensible. Finding, processing, and deportation is way too much work and not effective. That's what the government has been doing, and it really hasn't done much. So why keep on at it? I think registering and having an ability to track folks is a way more effective use of resources than continuing something that has very little positive effects.

I think what pisses off most American's about illegals, that they work harder than most American citizens, take the crappier jobs, and probably have more American patriotism than most of us citizens have.

LOL... Yeah... they like to raise the mexican flag up in place of the american flag at post offices...

I won't argue that they work hard and in some crappy jobs... But given the fact that most don't have the equivalent of a high school education you don't exactly want them designing bridges now do you? To say they work harder? That old stale claim. Tell you what, when an illegal can work harder than me at my skill level, then I'll believe you. Manual labor and menial jobs might be hard work, but it is brainless work. Wash, rinse, repeat... and that is why it pays shit.

If every neighboring state stopped selling CA power they would be fucked.

CA is where most of the U.S. Navy and all of the USMC is located. If you stopped selling us power we would just make you start again.

CA is so much better than every other state. The only other state that has anything to offer economically and culturally is NY. Chicago is a joke and what is the capital of Texas again? Houston? That's where I fly in Texas. The airport.

Edit: Hawaii is cool for vacations but otherwise is overrun by racist Polynesian meth-heads.

Why do you think the midwest and south have crap universities? Are full of fat people? Take more money from the federal government than they give? Are generally considered stupid by northern/westerners? The whole region is pathetic and it pains me to know that some of my family choose to live there.
___________

Hilarious. Perhaps if the north didn't fuck them over in the occupation after the civil war, there would be better infrastructure today. I have news for you though. Look at the fastest growing metro areas in the U.S. and what do you see? Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas/Ft. Worth and gasp... Birminham, AL. People from the North and west are flocking to the South east and South Central. California's days are numbered as more leave the state along with businesses...

AS you can see, California itself consumes a lot of federal dollars. OK, MO, TX, IA, GA, MN..etc... As you can see from the list CA is ranked 28th on the fed tex revenue to fed spending ratio... That means these 27 states are ranked higher than CA in the percentage of revenue versus intake.

Go figure.

Capital of TX is Austin... With claims like that you expect anyone to take you seriously when you spout off about how utterly superior CA is compared to everywhere else?

I left NY years ago... Never regretted it. Nice place to visit - horrible place to live to be prosperous + raise a family.

Lol don't take it so seriously you should expect people to like their state.

Part of it is CA is perpetually the archetypal "liberal" place. If somebody wants to talk shit about liberals they refer to Hollywood or SFC, not NY or Boston

Exactly. They aren't going anywhere so let's be practical!

I also agree about the immigrant mindset. You can see this in families that are 1st, 2nd, or 3rd generation immigrants vs families that have been here forever; The more recent the immigration, the harder working and more patriotic the people. They CHOSE to come here and they worked hard to get here, how many of the people born here would even be capable of making that same journey were they born elsewhere? Very few, I'd guess.

Families that are born here and have never known life outside of the US have no idea how lucky they were to be born here, so they have zero appreciation. They also are not self-selecting as the most ambitious people, people who want more in life. The midwest and south are full of Americans like this, who have been here for 150 years and have never set foot outside of the lower 48. But they have all sorts of opinions on world politics!

Why do you think the midwest and south have crap universities? Are full of fat people? Take more money from the federal government than they give? Where do we draw the line? Should we let anyone who wants a better life in? 50 million? 100 million? 1 billion people?

Please explain how a bankrupt state is writing checks to other states.:colbert:
California is anything but bankrupt. The state's most recent financial problems ended about the same time that Arnold left the governor's office.

You do what every other country has done for time immemorial: You enforce the borders and the people who get by, get by. If you catch them crossing you deport, but you do not conduct gestapo-like raids to find people who have been here for years.

If these people are resourceful enough to cross thousands of miles through all the other crazy dangers you have in Central America, then sneak past border guards to build a new life in a foreign land then maybe they are resourceful enough to add to this country?

They certainly have more balls than you and your ancestors, assuming you aren't a 1st or 2nd gen immigrant.

What generation are you?

1st

For the record they have more balls than me.

Traveling to a strange country I don't know the language and never leaving? With no family?

It's hard to overestimate how ballsy that is.

In my experience, and that's all this is, first generation immigrants are usually hardworking and want to be here. It's the second generation where the "Screw America, I'm a (whatever) at heart" shows up. Otherwise they seem no different than any other multi-generational American.

As far as your blanket comment that most people don't have the fortitude to go to another country, there's no way to know. Those of us born here are usually born into more comfortable lives than someone from a war-torn or poverty-stricken country. You can't really compare wills in that case because there's no way to know until they've been in that situation.

Crap schools like University of Michigan, Chicago, Northwestern, Case Western, Carnegie Mellon, University of Texas, Rice, Emory, Auburn. . . and others.

Obviously my statement was hyperbole but no those universities are not equivalent to UC Berkeley or Stanford or Yale.

There are a few very good universities in the South but the best universities in the world are concentrated in CA and New England. Why is that?

I think that at least a part of it is the culture of the Midwest and south is much more insular and is rife with anti-intellectualism. There is a theory that the smartest people have always moved to the coasts, or the most ambitious.

Oh ya, NY has a lot to offer economically. Only California has higher taxes and we rank 37th for job growth. BTW, Texas is 2nd in job growth.

New York state has a GDP of more than $1 trillion. That's a lot to offer.

I wonder what Texas's job growth will look like this year if oil prices stay low?
Texas also has one of the highest property tax rates in the country, which is how they make up for not having an income tax.
