I feel for Kalifornians.

On one hand had a bunch of crooks spending money like mad and got a chance to get rid of the main culprit.

Then they get a Republican with a name and an Agenda to wipe them out and plunge the state into China west.

The SUV driving, Diamond Laden, Nails every Wednesday,Boobed, Suntanned Barbies of this state, do not want to face the reality of us having to live within our means. That is the real denial that caused failed propositions here. :Q

Nothing real round here, except Califoricate sucks!

I heard the gropenator had a crap day in chico also, like usual showing his face in public in CA got the city in a uproar and I hear he sped off after getting pelted with soda from a jeering crowd...

He is such a joke.

Not nearly as much of a joke as you are, nor the Democratic and Republican parties.

If all the props do indeed die it will prove two things:

1. That the best way to campaign for something is to use LIES, FEARMONGERING and SMEAR TACTICS as the opponents of Schwarzennegger's propositions have done, to great effect.

2. That the population of California is the most STUPID, MORONIC group of people on the North American Continent.

Personally, if I were Arnold I'd sit in Sacramento until 2008 and veto *NOTHING*. I'd let the legislature pass 100% of it's half-baked SOCIALIST agenda, pass every single tax increase they can muster, and sit back and smile while the state hemmorhages every affluent business, every industry flees to better ground and all the hardworking people run to Arizona and Nevada because the LEGISLATURE'S failed policies have driven the economy into such a state of affairs that over 95% of the state's people are UNABLE TO AFFORD TO BUY A HOUSE.

Jason

Actually, I'd nominate the people of Kansas for the "stupid, moronic" label, after today.

You're right about the smear tactics that Dems used this time around- seemed kind of reprehensible. Too much "Vote this way because you're a party member!" crap happening. I felt good about voting against the abortion BS, but i honestly felt better about the couple that i voted against party lines on. weird.

anyways, tone it down. state legislature is a joke anyway, no need to take it as seriously as that. socialist? i think not. the problem is that the democrats look incredibly left wing when compared to the absurdly reactionary GOP legislators that keep getting elected.

Think not all you like; you're wrong. The Dems in California are absolutely *not* representative of Dem's elsewhere in the country as a whole. What the folks masquerading in Sacramento as Democrats truly are is *Socialists*, through and through. They want to spend like there's no credit limit, like they can afford anything and everything because they're the *State*. The Republicans in California, indeed in the entire country if the last few years of "Don't tax but spend anyway" policy are any indicator, are no damned better. Yes, the California legislature IS a joke--an incredibly expensive, UNION CONTROLLED joke.

As for 73, it was a *stupid* proposition that did almost *nothing*. The idiots who opposed it exagerated (Barbara Boxer, "It could overturn Roe v Wade!"...yeah, right) its importance, and the idiots who supported it overexagerated its importance ("It'll save millions of baby lives!"...yeah, right).

California is a *lost* state, pure and simple, and it's people, I contend, are the DUMBEST in North America.

Jason

Actually, according to another thread here they are only the 45th dumbest state. :D

EDIT: 46th Dumbest My bad.

Yeah, but that was done before this election. 74-77 were all *No-brainer* propositions. They ALL made good sense, they ALL would have contributed to the overall betterment of California and its people.

Californians proved tonight that they don't understand what the term "Liberal" means, nor "Progressive", and that they reject the idea that the people have a right to DEMOCRACY, that the government is the servant of the people.

I'd like to see Arnold come out tomorrow and tell California, "I tried to help, but you refuse to help yourselves. You are a population of morons. May your backs break under the labor of $4,000 a month house payments which the legislature of California has guaranteed for you. Enjoy never being able to afford to pay off your home, enslaving you to a bank forever. Enjoy allowing the Public Employee Unions to dip into your pockets at any time and for any reason whatsoever without your consent. Don't call the police when people steal from you anymore; you asked for it. Don't ask me to veto a single spending bill from the legislature ever again. Don't ask me to reject a tax increase--it will never happen.

"Suffer, Californians, as you deserve. Suffer, you disgusting, worthless morons."

Jason

I'm on your side man... And I agree with you 100%. Ahnold isn't getting reelected anyway so he might as well have a T.O. like melt down.

If CA elects Warren Beatty next... Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha... hoooo... I can't wait for the next election down there.

It would be bizarre for Warren Beatty to win *anything*, LOL. Talk about your loser, hasn't-been actors, heh :) He only wishes he had the movie success Arnold has.

Excuse me, but Ronald Reagan made movies with monkeys and he was elected Governor of California then President, so if Reagan could do it, Beatty could. :)

So much for his mandate....

Exactly. The dems swept the city council elections here in Tucson. In California, the political machine beat the repugs with the same tactics they have been using all over the country for the last few years. American dream, my ass. This guy is the poster child for 'the bigger the lie, the more believable it is.'

All of the propositions backed by Arnold were rejected. 40% turnout state-wide. A clear referendum against the governator.

Boo hoo. Muscle boy had his butt handed to him, now the right wingers have to come and bash CA and call everyone morons. It's called democracy folks, we didn't want what he was selling.

The bottom line is we got a bait and switch. Arnold sold himself as a moderate that would be bipartisan. He then teamed up with out of state right wing strategist, went right, tried to bypass the legislature and cost us an extra $50 million in the process. We slapped him down.

Hehe, another deep thinker. Emperor Gropinator's grab for absolute power was defeated by the people of California. Arnold said he's made some mistakes but is learning. Now he knows that meaning of separation of powers and can try learning compromise.

haven't really followed the election this year, but i think that arnold pissed off too many people at the same time. propositions he endorsed are mostly good, but most people see it as a waste of money.

the things arnold has been doing has been disappointing also, with the special interest giving him money and stuff. I'd like to see gerrymandering stopped, but i guess i'll have to wait for another time.

california democrats suck.

It's not so much that Arnold has done anything wrong, it's that the Unions have been lying their ASSES off on TV commercials for *months*. Eventually that crap adds up, and for whatever reason, Arnold's idiot staff didn't get his mug on the air to refute their lies. If he'd been on the air *regularly* and confronted the lies and challenged the LIARS, his ratings would have stayed sky-high.

More importantly, he should have had these issues on the ballot within 3 months of getting elected. There was NO CHANCE at that stage that even the best liars in the state, who primarily work for the Unions and OWN the Democrats and Republicans in California, could have defeated the propositions. Californians at that stage were *stoked* for a change and would have leapt for the chance to change the system.

Unfortunately, stupid people have short memories and are too politically ignorant to realize that all the problems Gray "Gumby" Davis left behind are still here--and the legislature LIKES it that way.

Californians just offered their well-lubed butts to the politicians on a platter. Congratulations, folks!

jason

that is your view. Arnold placed MANY issues and passed them the first year, namely the bond to paper over the state deficit. I voted for them because the alternative was worst. You can call people stupid, you may attack people for not voting the same way you did ... which is what happens when you legislate by initiatives. People vote. Don't like it. Tough. Come back with something that will get passed.

You also have revisionist history. You paint Arnold as some kind of defenseless victim of big bad union bosses. Arnold pissed off many groups with his actions - cutting education by 2 billion dollars, fighting nursing staffing laws and pension reforms. He called the legislature "girlie men" and wanted to kick their butts (as well as the nurse's union). You piss off too many groups, they will unite and return fire.

Do you remember that Arnold and the legislature worked together the first year? Did you hear Arnold talking about wanting to work with the legislature tonight?
Did you know that the Pharmaceutical companies spent the most amount of money of any group defeating Prop 79 Big Pharma spent 80 million dollars to defeat Prop 79

Unions are always outspent by corporate interest. What Arnold was trying to do was to punish and silence his critics and the people of California said no to his special election.
I take this defeat of all propositions on the ballot as a message to Arnold and the legislature to get back to work to do the people's business. I am encouraged by Arnold's words tonight about wanting to work with the legislature while you just want to vent and attack.

yup, its sad. it wasn't honest reform, just a chance to make corporate money even more powerful than it already was. stooges like DragonMasterAlex can't get that through their thick skulls. he complains about lies fear mongering and smear tactics? talk about hipocrisy. anyways theres serious reform, and theres really bad ideas. this time arny choose to put out a bunch of really bad ideas. glad every one of his props went down. we elected him to lead as an outsider, not become a republican stooge like he did for bush at the presidential convention. that was ugly...he dashed any hopes that he would be someone like a mccain long ago. you have to remember many moderate democrats like me voted for him. course the choice was limited to him to that twit. it was the lesser of two evils but he was given a chance and he squandered it. i voted down all the props, the election should have never been called in the first place. easiest vote ever.

Honestly, Arnold's a guy who arrived here with $20 to his name just over 30 years ago, and now he's governor of the state and a multi-millionaire. This man is the *embodiment* of the American Dream, pure and simple, and the idea that people sneer at him rather than admire and try to follow in his path is evidence that the majority of people in California are filled not with high hopes, not with concern for their children or their loved ones, but with self loathing and with *horrible* ENVY.

Truly disgusting.

Todd..............how old are you guy? 13?

74 thru 77 were PURE COMMON SENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's like the guy who said he was gonna vote against ANY Republican sponsored initiative.......(arsbanned, btw)..........SO YOU'RE GONNA CUT OFF YOUR NOSE TO SPITE YOUR FACE?????????

It just goes to show the mass ignorance and gullability in the state of California!!!

Don't make the unions have to ask YOU for your money.........INSTEAD............make YOU have to deny the unions first!!! Wow, that's a great idea!! WTF???

Don't stop spending more than you're taking in 'cuz we don't want any of our programs cut................OK..............NO PROB................instead of cutting back on a few programs now.....................we'll just BANKRUPT ***ALL*** YOUR PROGRAMS LATER!!!!!!!!! Are you fvcking kidding me?????????? (more ignorance)

And the best of all...............

Don't stop letting legislators draw their own district lines. We wouldn't want any non-partison judges who are voted by deduction to draw any lines which are ******THEN****** voted on by the *****PEOPLE****** 'cuz then legislators might not be able to keep their jobs & do ******NOTHING BUT WHAT THEY WANT******* year after year!!! (this is quite possibly the most grand ignorance of all)

I just can't believe it.

I probably should, however.........it all goes hand in hand w/ the *******OPEN ARMS TO ILLEGAL ALIENS******* policy here too.

I almost can't wait to watch the state fall apart just so I can make millions on my "I told you so" T shirts!!

The CA Special Election was a terrible idea. Schwarzenegger had neither the intellect nor moral authority to push his agenda. This outcome was obvious from the outset.

What he SHOULD have done?

1) Overall, wait for a regular election cycle. There was no reason to rush besides his desire for some sort of "victory" before running for re-election.

2) Prop 74 - convene a special commission of elite CA teachers, administrators, and education researchers to develop a plan of how to improve CA schools. This commission would then submit proposals back to the Governor and Legislature. As a former schoolteacher, I'm sure any decent instructor would agree that 2 years is not long enough to demonstrate competency sufficient to justify tenure. But Schwarzenegger's approach was just plain dumb.

3) Prop 75 - require ALL public AND private unions AND corporations to get specific written consent of members/shareholders before giving political contributions. Schwarzenegger was 100% hypocrite on 75. Many of his policy initiatives have been bankrolled by business groups (special interests). Unions would have still complained but IMO most Californians would think it's a good idea to reduce the influence of unions AND businesses in politics.

4) Prop 76 - just plain stupid and hypocritical since Schwarzenegger's early budget success?? was achieved with the type of borrowing/budgeting that he seeks to abolish. It would have made more sense to be honest and ask CA to repeal the previous ballot initiatives responsible for several of CA's budget problems. Regardless, some of the items would have been approved individually but were dragged into the abyss by retarded riders.

5) Prop 77 - should wait until next Census. Rush to implementation reeks of political opportunism. Why not a panel of retired schoolteachers, farmers, or doctors? Retired judges were selected under the auspices that they were nonpartisan . . . Judge Starr, Judge Bork, Judge Cornyn . . . nonpartisan my arse. Pick a 4-person panel (MD, JD, schoolteacher, and a homemaker) that are not registered to the two major parties. Chair the group with the governor but his/her vote still just counts as 1. My guess is the people will use common sense to draw districts.

These props failed b/c some were bad ideas and others were badly executed. The fatal flaw was the primary advocate.

I knew it was going all lose since day one. People here seeming never understand the problem or admit there is one. We continue to go into a bigger hole each and every year. It ain't pretty when we have to make cuts AND raise taxes. I don't like raising taxes but we have to find some middle ground to get to a point things are managable.

what bugs me the most was during the tech boom the legislature went on a wild spending spree like as if the money will continue to flow. The increases should've been modest so that if the surge in revenue drops, cutting them won't be the have a large effect.

Prop 74 should made it 3 years. Back to what it was before 1983. And similar to most states in the country. ONly a handfull of states have more than 3 and less than 2. Though question is was it the change to 5 years made it too long or simply they as in voters think two years is good enough.

Prop 77 is useless. No matter if it was judges and not state representatives/senators drawing up the lines it'll still be political. I see no point in changing the process. its not pretty but I'm not going to delude myself that the judges will be non-partisan.

Doh!!! You beat me to it!!! Great post!!!

You see guys..........it's pretty frickin' simple.

When you're spending more than you take in, you have to cut..........PERIOD!!! There is no other way. Last time I checked, accounting was still a DOUBLE DATA ENTRY SYSTEM!!!! Has something changed since then that I don't know about?????

The Union initiative is about the only one I can go neutral on. If you folks who work in Unions want to continue with them...........Hey, knock yourselves right the fvck out!!! I could care less, except don't come bitchin' to me when you guys are forced to picket makin' $192/week. Just shut the fvck up & bitch to your shop steward........I don't wanna hear it!!!

As for the Teacher's initiative.......................Get this!!!! Teacher's hired in September, has to be evaluated for re-hire by March. Only 2 years needed to go lifetime. Make it thru those first 7 months & you can skate thru your 2nd year and have a job............*****FOR LIFE*******!!!!!!!! With pension, no less...........paid for by ME the taxpayer..............who is funding his OWN retirement with PERSONAL INVESTMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!! A 5 year probation would be an EXCELLENT idea. Heck, I can't get a 30 year probation. If I work 40 years of my life, I could be fired at ANY time. It's just a fact of life............PERIOD!!! WTF can't people see about this being win/win!! Plus it's the TAXPAYER'S KIDS we're tryin' to get better teachers for!!! (Again, I'm just simply amazed at the level of ignorance).

And what's wrong w/ 3 judges?? You folks who argue they're grubby, single party or D/R party schemers w/ an agenda. WTF??????? The *******PEOPLE****** get to vote on the lines. The judges only draw them!! And only ****AFTER**** they're selected by a 24 unit panel!!! (Just keep telling yourselves........."Ignorance is bliss. Ignorance is bliss. Ignorance is bliss!!!")

I don't know what else to say. The state of California just bent itself over. There IS NO justification for dumping such common sense propositions.

Forget the $10Billion/yr deficit...........we're movin' on up folks..........let's start planning for $40Billion/yr. I want the same ignorant idiots who voted against the proposals to figure out a way to pay for the sheott.

And when you think that newere/more taxes will fund the deficit.....................GO AHEAD & UP THE TAXES (RATE OR OTHERWISE) ON A QUESTIONABLE ECONOMY & SEE WHAT YOU GET!!!!! Governor Wilson already learned this one the hard way!!!

LOL

Californians have nothing to be proud of...voter apathy and a elaborate attack ad campaign based on deception and fear mongering caused Arnold's initiatives to fail.

Californians didn't vote against the initiatives based on their understanding of them...the exit polls and interviews surrounding election day essentially established that blue state residents are just as ignorant and misinformed as red staters...they voted based on the perceptions created by the attack ads on television and the radio, sponsored by the very special interests and groups that Arnold was hoping to keep in check.

Too bad people in blue states can't think for themselevs and instead vote based on what the unions and special interests fear monger a knee jerk reaction towards.
