Where is the confidence coming from that Nvidia's next gen will drop in the next 2 months? Is there some insider info that translates Jensen's "not for a long time" into August?

If you talk with people at the Q and A, Jensen was being sarcastic.
But somehow AMD fans are spreading it around like he was dead serious.
I can see why with AMD having NO high end cards due till late 2019 at least.

Where are you getting this information? Google Jensen's announcement and all the major news/review sites (at least on the first page of results) are reporting it just like he said it, no sarcasm detected. Are all of those sites part of the AMD fanboy club?

I thought it was understood that he said it not to be sarcastic, but to avoid discouraging potential buyers who might wait for the new card (if/when announced) rather than buying what they have in stock now.

I don't think AMD is a factor in their decisions at this point. nV's choices to push gsync and not do much to compete for miner's money had left us with two largely independent companies that really only compete on the lower end where there's some overlap in potential customers. At the high end, it's now more about the experience you want to have (freesync vs gsync, etc.) and then getting the card(s) that match your budget.

I can only assume that people still playing these companies against each other own stock and think that their cheerleading helps... somehow.
 
OP: Unfortunately, your voting choices are very restrictive due to your desire for Ti. In terms of gaming experience and ownership longevity, I can tell you from my own experience that if you desire certain settings and effects and resolutions and response times etc, you will be unhappy any time you must compromise. If you think you can save money now by getting a lower tier card to hold you over, see (2) below. If you think you will have overspent now because you want the next Ti, see (3) below.

The decision is easy:
1) Do you have enough money to purchase 1080Ti? seems yes. Can you make any money from selling your old card? even with no effort, yes. and any dollars is better than no dollars.
2) Are you sufficiently annoyed as all hell with your gaming experience now and want to change it very badly? seems yes
3) Are you sure you want to wait 1-1.5 years for the next Ti while continually being set upon by (2) EVERY SINGLE DAY?

Funny the article you posted clearly says RUMOR.

I dont see the word rumor in the articles I posted.

I find it funny people dont believe a new gaming gpu is not coming soon ,very soon.

The new Nvidia cards will be at least 30 to 40 % faster at every performance tier.
They are obviously wating for gddr6 memory speeds to compliment that kind of performance.
My guess , the cards have been ready since May.

Or perhaps this is the reason.?

I don't know but it looks like Nvidia's presentation has been cancelled at Hot Chips which might signal a longer than expected wait for the next gen GPU.
 
If there is an excess of GPUs, then why are GPU's still selling for $100+ over MSRP on newegg? Also, 1080ti from EVGA's site are going for over $900. That's still a stupid price. Completely brain damaged pricing right there. Doesn't seem like an over abundance of product to me.

Funny I looked last night on Newegg and prices were.....
1080 $550
1070ti $450
1070 $400
1060 $290

And Nvidia's site were about the same for the FE versions.
 
The Founders Edition cards were supposed to be more expensive than entry level offerings from the AIB partners.

it is .The new Tomb Raider game should look and play just fine on it.
I'll build a new system next year.

Seeking Alpha was reporting they got a return of around 300K gpus from a major Taiwan OEM. That's a massive hit if true and means that the supply chain is clogged. If some outlets still have gpus overpriced, welp you can't legislate against stupidity. It reminds me of our property taxes. The state is real quick to reaccess our fees when values go up, but they sure as hell take their time when values drop.

I didn't check the mid rangers. Interesting though. Also, why is a 1070 still $400? A 1060 is $300? Good god almighty. I hope Intel pneumatically launches a giant boot right where it belongs in relation to Nvidia's anatomy, because we need competition in the GPU arena as much as we needed it in the CPU arena. So stupid to be paying $400 for 1070 class performance this late in the game. Holy crap.

Those prices are still absurd, and higher than the MSRP's for all of those chips. That is not evidence of an over production of GPUs; it's the opposite.

WCCFTech has posted rumours for GTX 1100/2000 series as early as mid 2017 and Q3 2017, and then every quarter and almost every month since then such as March 2018, April 2018 and July 2018. Your previous article was not a rumour because it posted a factual statement from a fan manufacturer (Q3 fan shipments for GPUs) and then made a leap of faith off that.

They will be right by virtue of being wrong until they are correct.

Sure, new GPUs are coming soon. July? That's soon to me. August? October? Later? No one knows - you certainly do not.

What's your source for the cards having been ready in May? Are you prepping an exclusive article?

Since I would rather buy a 1180ti then I should buy the 1080ti now. Nvidia seems to release a new series of graphics cards every 2-2.5 years.

My estimation.

1180 Founders edition (or whatever it will be called) November
1180 Regular Branded editions December

1180ti August 2019

2080 Founders edition May 2020
2080 Regular Branded June 2020

2080ti March 2021

I think you'll be fine with a 1080 Ti, even if a 1180 sneaks in within a few months. 780 Ti was faster than a GTX 970, even both max OC, and even the 980 was only single digits % faster (until Kepler started having performance issues anyway). 980 Ti vs 1080 both max OC was around a 15% lead for the 1080 IIRC. Unless we are getting another GTX 580 -> 680 (680 max OC easily crushed the 580) you'll have comparable performance.
