That is true. But, while true, there are still probably more decent people than not at this point. It won't be long before decent americans are the minority. I suppose decent is a bit ambiguous, but I think most can read between the lines.

This is truly pathetic. But, based on people I even work with, I just am not surprised. Society has adopted the 'well, it doesn't affect me directly, I am not gonna say anything'

'Not my car alarm going off, so I won't even bother checking'
'Not my house where someone suspiciously looking through a neighbor's window so I will turn a blind eye'
'Not my kids that are getting bullied, so i'll just ignore it'
'I don't think it is right that <insert name here> steals, but I am not him. It is his choice and I can't judge him!'

The list goes on and on. It can be observed daily. Pathetic.

But...but...but...it takes a village!!

A friend of mine, big guy, had a gig driving school buses for most of the last year and laughed how differently people would have probably reacted if it had been him in her position as a male.

That is so true. It seems to be the attitude most people have these days.

Not surprised at all, kids when i was in HS ~8 years ago i could easily see them doing shit like this. Kids 20 years ago were probably equally vicious only difference is we have camera phones and youtube today to actually see what goes on. If that happened 20 years ago the only witnesses would be the people on the bus who were paying attention.

Nothings changed guys kids aren't any worse/better than they used to be, shit sucks but its always been that way.

Unfortunately, this happens in all cultures. As long as you're not the only one who saw it, most likely you won't do anything.

These kids are 13, so for me that was just under 20 years ago. In comparison to what I remember, these kids are about par for the course. I knew plenty of kids who were just as bad or worse than this. Little horrible monsters.

I agree. It's youtube and camera phones that lets you see what's really going on. Kids say the damndest things.

Yup, pretty sad. It's the deterioration of society where most are either feared for their own safety, feared of being sued, don't care, or have their own fairytale version of reality clouding their judgment, or came from horrid upbringing, whatever it is, a perfect shit storm if you ask me.

But fret not, there are still plenty of good people out there, evident by the sum of her donation fund and the collective outrage. Some could metaphorically call this a ” village's effort”, unless you're not all there...

This is why there really was nothing this lady could do to stop these kids...

http://www.whec.com/news/stories/S2665285.shtml?cat=566

Parents are retarded.

This is exactly the reason shit like the OP video goes on. What the hell do you think is going to happen when you put a defenseless (yes, an old lady is defenseless) person in a hostile environment, with children instigated by negative reinforcement and ABSOLUTELY NO risk of consequences? I mean, even if it was a 6'2 black man in this position, he still would not be allowed to do anything at all to quell this behaviour, so what's the point of having a bus monitor at all? Obviously they need it, now it's time to address the other ingredient to the formula - parents need to allow other people to police their children. This happened "in my day", and it doesn't happen now.

You really have absolutely no idea what commonly goes on on a city school bus, do you.

Actually I do. Which is why this 'bus monitor' needs to be in a security guard uniform and carrying, at very least, a pair of hand cuffs and a billy club.*

*of course this solution makes no sense, just like having a fat-old-lady take up a seat and take abuse all day.

I hope these kid's full name is linked to the video being circulated. Maybe we might not see true justice today, but I hope one day when these kids get older, justice will be served by a 3rd party.

For example, a new employer will deny them of a good job because of what they will find when they google these kids' name.

Maybe during their high school reunion, their classmates which will be more mature by then, can dish to these kids what pricks they are. Would be interesting.

I have a great idea.. Lets start a website that that holds the names of all the worst offenders. It'll be like the IMDB of shameful people in this world. PATENT PENDING! ;)

She's not a prison guard. Supposedly, in a society where kids are raised properly, her presence should be enough for the kids to behave on the bus ride.

Let's not blame her for being there, and start blaming the shitheads for not raising their little turds properly.

Not at all [~20 years ago]. We were more interested in playfully teasing each other than worrying about the bus driver.

The fact that there is a bus monitor in the video indicates it's obviously a problem for that particular bus.

Bring back parents that actually raise their children properly. Teaching them how to respect other people and treat people how they themselves would want to be treated.

I was watching the news and people were emailing in about this article and blaming it on tv and rap music instead of blaming the parents that obviously raised these kids improperly. People never blame the parents, the ones that are responsible for the children, they blame it on things like Marilyn Manson, Doom, and Snookie.

There should be no need for a buss monitor in general; If there is need for one then why take half-measures?

Pretty much. I'd get smacked across the face if I ever did that when I was a kid. Hell every time I went anywhere I had to cross my hands and bow to an elder.

$663k+ with 23 days left, so it's slowed down quite a bit but with 3 weeks to go I can see it reaching a cool million.
