Brett Favre for MVP?

Miramonti

Lifer
With a 112 rating and the vikings in first, a lot of votes are going to go his way if he keeps this up. 21 td's and only 3 int's. 😱

He's clearly having the best year of his career. It's just a shame he has to be such a drama queen every summer.

Career stats

Personally I hope Drew Brees gets it tho.

He had a good first half last year. It was the 2nd that he went down.

So don;t start printing the award cards yet.

I'd say right now, it's between Peyton Manning, Brett Favre and Drew Brees.

There are still six games left, so we'll see what happens. If things keep going at the current pace, I'd say it's a head-to-head of Manning VS Favre for MVP, with their team's respective record and playoff seeding being the deciding factor.

09 Vikings are not the 08 Jets. With the players the Vikings have Brett as he said in his press conference yesterday doesnt have to open it up. That is translation for he doesnt have to take chances and in process throw 17 picks a year. He can sit back, let the run game chew them up a bit, complete some easy passes and let the players make plays. Harvin is just an insane player if you watch him and Rice is a damn beast. He will catch anything thrown to him. Shianco has now turned into a premier TE. Berriman is our worst reciever of the group and for the most part he is solid on any other team.

Then of course Peterson running the ball and now starting to catch. And Chester Taylor is actually a solid back that can catch well(minus the pitt fuck up) on 3rd down.

It is amazing how much the have Vikings come to life once they got a competent QB.

Is favre really the most valuable player though? He's on a team with percy harvin and adrian peterson. I think the vikings would still be a decent team without favre. (though not as good as they are now)

If you take drew brees or peyton manning off of their teams, they absolutely collapse.

I've never been a Vikings fan, but it's fun watching them play this year. Farve has done good things for that team.

No, I don't attribute the team's winning only to Farve...he has some good players on the team to work with.

Iirc, they were 10-6 last year, so they were definitely a decent team without him. But at 9-1 and his league leading stats, the separation imo is clearly enough to warrant the chatter.

That's not to say brees and manning aren't more instrumental, and the issue should be a factor, but those teams have a lot of talent too. (I'd probably side with manning being the most instrumental of the 3 this year.)

Would you even be talking about Percy Harvin if Favre wasnt on the team?

you saying the vikings were this good last few years?

I think Peyton's been more instrumental. The Colts could very well be a 5-5/6-4 team right now if not some excellent late game drives on his part. Not to say that Favre isn't also a consideration. We've still got 6 games left in the season.

Vikings with Tavarious Jackson would be a 9-7 8-8 team.

I just think it's amazing what Favre can still do.... MVP or not... he is having an amazing year. 300+ straight starts... that is an insane number..... is it the ironman record for the NFL? must be... at least for a QB?

It is the record for any player.

I think the colts without manning would be sub 500.

This x10000

The colts are the worst undefeated team, but they're still undefeated, so close games or no close games they're still 10-0.

I'm going with Favre, he still loves to play, plays as hard as a rookie trying to establish his place on the team. And has a freaking cannon for an arm.

Somewhat. Jim Marshall had the ironman record by starting 270 straight games, but the record is currently 345 games...and still going!

As awesome as that is for any position, its Jeff Feagles, whose only a punter. 😉

300+ straight starts for a qb, who don't train for punishing hits like everyone else (besides kickers) and get blind-sided often and driven into the ground, is beyond insane.

I think there are 4 QB who could be in the running. Brady, Peyton, Brees and Favre. I do think Favre has brought a lot to a team who already had a lot of weapons to beat you. Favre is a love/hate thing though. I love his passion for football and how he acts like a kid and never gives up on a play, but the drama queen bit sort of ruined a bit of that for me.

As a Vikings fan (and GB hater), I've admired Favre for a long time (while ripping on him in public). 4 years ago I said he was a top5 QB. Why? Because he's smart, makes good decisions, and has a great arm/eye. The caveat to that whole statement is that is only true IF he feels like he doesn't have to win the game. IF he has receivers and RBs that can do their share of the job and don't make him desperate, he's a marquee QB. If you force him to try to win the game all by himself, he'll throw pick after pick.

Does that make him a non-candidate for MVP? Absolutely not. I think he deserves it. People deride him for being a "game manager", but aren't all QBs?

He certainly deserves the MVP if this keeps up.

This. From the games I've seen, the Colts as a whole look very average at best, the difference between 5-5 and 10-0 is all due to Peyton, he is playing some of the best football of his career this season, he's the MVP this season so far.

Oh, if only Madden were still an announcer...I don't think he would survive how well Brett Favre is playing this year.

Brett Favre! BRETT FAVRE! BRETT FAVRE!!!

Honestly off field behavior doesn't matter towards "who's the best". It can definitely affect who I "cheer" for or like, but you can't deny talent.

The case could be made for him to be MVP, but right now Peyton Manning has him beat, especially with a lifetime rating of 95.
