I despise the Vikings, but he deserves it. He seems like a good guy.

When is the appropriate time to bump the summertime Brett Favre thread where dozens upon dozens of people here were saying that he's old, all washed up, no longer a contendor, etc.?

As awesome as that is for any position, its Jeff Feagles, whose only a punter. ;)

Hell, I'd show up for 22 seasons if I was making 1.8 million a year too.

My firstborn son will be a punter or a kicker. They make maybe one tackle every 5 years and all they have to do is kick their way to retirement at age 35.

MVP? Even as a Vikings fan, I don't think I could say MVP. He's got a pretty damn good supporting cast.

I'd probably vote for Drew Brees.

All Day Peterson? suppose you could make an argument for that, for sure.

look at the vikings now versus the past few years. favre has been consistent. you seriously think that it's the receivers who contribute so much to favre only having 3 turnovers all season so far? favre's job is to put the ball in the hands of the offense, stay off his back, and keep the ball going down the field in order to win games. he's been doing exactly that and better than anyone in vikings history. that keeps the team energized and morale boosted, which helps win games.

without favre, they'd be just another team with a great running back, but a mediocre record.

No doubt. But its definitely not easy to be one - the amount of power and speed in their legs is outrageous. Its like a little bomb going off on their foot when the ball is kicked.

Would you even be talking about Percy Harvin if Favre wasnt on the team?
Yes, as a kick/punt returner and a great catch-and-run receiver. He has better yards after catch than Berrian, Rice, or Shiancoe, and he also has those two special teams TDs and often gets great field position.

my pick for MVP was Favre. i was just saying to whoever mentioned All Day that you could make an argument for that too. essentially i'm agreeing with everyone.

Look at the Vikings last year: 10-6, all-around average team, lost in the first round of the playoffs

Look at the Vikings this year: 9-1, cruising to dominance and Brett is playing like a champ. Of course, the rest of the season and the playoffs have yet to be played, but things are looking very, very good right now. Barring a catastrophic collapse, the Vikings this year will be NFC champion contenders for sure.

The major difference? Brett Favre at QB instead of Tarvaris Jackson. Yes, Minnesota has a good team overall, but this is the Age of the Quarterback, and a good one can take a decent team to great and vice versa.

Now, like I said before, Brett Favre faces some serious competition from Peyton Manning and Drew Brees, but only the most zealous Favre/Vikings hater would say that Brett hasn't been the most valuable player on his team this year. He transformed the Vikings from pretender to contender.

The MVP will go to the QBs who goes through the playoffs with the best performance. Personally I don't think Manning will get there because he's simply not playing as good as everybody thinks he is and will likely choke in their only playoff game.

Brady won't get it because of too much controversy regarding the penalty antics. This leaves the vote between Drew and Brett, and will likely go to the one who has a better season finish / and or playoff run.

IMO it's going to come down to Peyton Manning and Drew Brees. They're putting up great numbers and leading very solid teams. Regardless of what Brady, Favre, or the Other Manning does, I don't think they'll really be a factor in the voting.

This. From the games I've seen, the Colts as a whole look very average at best, the difference between 5-5 and 10-0 is all due to Peyton, he is playing some of the best football of his career this season, he's the MVP this season so far.

This. (Yes, I live in Indy).

The MVP is awarded after the regular season and before the playoffs. FYI.

This is not baseball. It doesn't work that way.

I do believe the MVP is voted on before the playoffs begin.

The case could be made for him to be MVP, but right now Peyton Manning has him beat, especially with a lifetime rating of 95.

While I agree Peyton should be the front runner right now (there's still 6 games left though), I don't see what a lifetime rating has to do with any single season award....

For those arguing that Favre isn't even the MVP on his team and that it is Adrian Peterson, I'm pretty sure Favre has done more to win games than Peterson has, and has even bailed Peterson out more than the other way around.

Besides, its not like all 10 wins are strictly on Manning's arm. He's had several games where their offense wasn't scoring TDs to make up for their defense, they've won a few defensive struggles.

I think Favre is behind Manning and Brees both. I would go Manning, brees, Favre, in that order.

We saw that Minnesota was at least a decent team without Favre. I think any competent QB could have gone into that situation and improved them. Favre has been outstanding but he isn't as valuable to that team as Manning or brees are to theirs.

Imagine how awful Indy would be without Manning. NO would be pretty shitty without Brees, but Minnesota would still probably win that division.
