Bought a new watch. Thoughts?

So I went and bought my first ever watch the other day.

The hands are blue, but the iphone6 doesn't like getting that color.

Looks good. Understated and classy. I prefer a more rugged/military look for myself, but I don't really wear a watch anymore. On rare occasions I want a watch, I usually take my windup pocket watch.

yup. 40 hrs.

Inhouse movement.

I have a few more bands coming to be able to dress it down for less formal wear and a proper fitting black band coming as well.

And it's absolutely not a no-name brand. It's a newer brand, yes, but they have a LOT of followers. They're also located in Glashutte so there's some history behind their location of manufacture.

What's the fascination with mechanical watches? They are more inaccurate than Quartz movements and more maintenance. I'll take a good looking quartz watch over an identical looking mechanical watch any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

A Seiko? But you can't post photos of it next to a Cuban cigar and a glass of single malt scotch in any watch forums. What good is a watch these days otherwise?

I like the style, but it's too small against to your wrist. It looks wimpy.

The look at EXACTLY remain the same, but was 20% larger it'd be perfect.

Nice. Watches are weird, they all look similar and do the same thing at all price points. I guess a good eye can spot a good watch. I have never spent more than $500 on a watch... and I can't tell my $500 watch from a $25 Tommy Hilfiger.

That's a nice watch, but I wouldn't be surprised if you told me it was $15 or $15000.

To be fair, it's the high end Seiko with the kinetic drive and all that good stuff. It's really feature packed for being analog.

But to answer your question, it's basically jewelry...like wearing a ring.

I have three Seikos, a couple Fossils and a handful of others I don't wear any more. Don't always wear a watch. More of a fashion statement than necessary with the modern cellphone. Have had this one for a year now.

I'd consider a watch primarily jewelry/fashion, but when the strap broke and couldn't wear mine for a while I was surprised by how much I actually do use it as a watch. I also tried to wear my older mechanical self winding watch but gave up because it was annoying having to reset it every morning. Theres just no going back from my Citizen atomic.

Also, for watch straps, I highly recommend looking through Etsy. Really well priced high quality hand made leather bands to be found there.

Not terrible. Clean, simple design. I prefer numbers myself...but to each their own.

I have two Citizen watches. One was kind of spendy...at least for me:

I love the leather band and deployment clasp...but it was just not quite large enough for my wrist...so I replaced it with a good quality stainless steel band.

I also have a much cheaper Citizen watch that I wear for "banging around" and camping.

Still a nice Eco-Drive watch, and doesn't have numbers...but a whole lot less spendy if I fuck it up.
