so has anyone actually played this yet? i'd like to see some actual player impressions.

i've watched/read a few reviews and am still underwhelmed. it seems like the whole concept is 'what if diablo was a generic shooter,' and my response to this is basically 'why would i care?'

MTV Multiplayer: How Long is Borderlands?

Since it comes at the end of my somewhat lengthy review, and it's the question I've gotten most from readers, I wanted to clarify just how long it took me to play through "Borderlands" with a single character. Keep in mind that this doesn't include New Game Plus, which allows you to replay the game with new enemy types and better loot. This is just the first time through, from the start of the game to the credits.

My finishing time with my Hunter class was 17 hours and 36 minutes, with a completion level of 36. I was generally pretty thorough when it came to completing quests, but I probably skipped about 6 quests due to them being a much lower level than I was. Given that a quest takes around 15 to 20 minutes to complete, there was probably an extra hour of gameplay I could've slogged through. Instead I chose to start my New Game Plus and take on those quests when I reach them the second time around.

I can't give you a time from level 1 to level 50, unfortunately, as I haven't reached that pinacle yet. I have noticed that leveling does slow down some in the later stages of the game, but 100 hours (a stat that the developers mentioned when describing the length of time from 1 to 50) is probably somewhat inflated. Figure it takes you 20 hours to get to level 40, it seems unlikely that the final 10 levels would take you four times as long. If I were to make an educated guess I'd say level 50 is attainable in around 40 hours, but I'll be happy to eat my words if that proves to be false.

Don't get me wrong, though, I'm not besmirching the length of the game. I've already got another character up to level 20 (a Siren), so there is plenty of value to be found in experiencing the other classes. I just thought you might like to know what sort of time investment you were getting into.

Heh, you can go ahead and take me off the list. As much as I'd like to try this game out I've realized I don't have the time or the money for gaming at the moment. 🙂 I'm even likely going to skip out on getting Forza 3 for a while which should tell you something since I've been participating in Forza 2 game night for a long ass time.

C'mon Queasy, I know you have a bunch of dusty games you can trade in.

I've dumped a couple hours into it already solo. It's pretty solid, but probably not really your cup of tea if you like story driven and deep RPGs. The story is pretty much non existent at this point, and it's a grind of missions. I really like the mechanics of the game, and the graphics are very unique. It's starting to get pretty damned difficult though to do alone, so I'm hoping to get on with some folks later. It's definitely better for shooter fans than RPG fans, but the loot finding will still keep you going.

got my 360 version. i should be playing at least by 8. i think all the requests are out. hit me up if i missed u. also let me know if i missed u from the player list

Got my copy, played the sniper for 5 minutes. Thought it was cool and it is gonna be awesome but now I gotta work from home for like the next 5 hours........

Hadn't even heard of it till today, but it looks pretty sweet and the reviews are favorable. Might pick it up on the way home.

Got a chance to game with a few of the guys here tonight. Love the game. Single player is fun, but multiplayer is definitely where it's at.

I got to level 11 as a siren (interesting character) last night and after a slow start the game is picking up. I'm definitely liking it a lot but I haven't jumped into MP yet. I did see a few of you guys partied up last night though. 😀

Of course this game had to be released on the last day of my fall break. I'm looking forward to getting some time in MP with people from here once I get studying out of the way.

Also Jules, I think Randy Pitchford is no fan of the PS3. I'd get the 360 version just to be safe.

gg rage and fett.

we were playing last night with 2 berserk, 1 sold, 1 hunter.

i think we all ended up around lvl 9-10.

soldier just seems to be your normal dood. skills increase damage and health or add to his turret..
not sure what the hunters skill was. and the berserk just went ape shit and starting punching everything...

as soon as you guys left i went to the store for weapons and guess what.... BAZOOOKA! couldnt afford it was like 7,000 or something but there was the weapon you guys were looking for.

also per the conversation in the game last night i read the manual and it says you share money and ammo. i didnt notice the ammo being shared but it says it does. maybe we neeed pay attention closer next time.

i assume i am going to start and seperate character for single player cause i have no idea what the story is in multiplayer..

yeah we had a party going last night. someone of the enemies are beast. we ran into this one lvl 10 (we were around 6 or 7) the one guy just dominated all 4 of us. we all died like 4 times.. it was funny.

Is there a separation between the single and multiplayer games? Can you level your character solo and then jump into a multiplayer game (or invite people into yours)? Also, is there local split-screen multiplayer? I'll probably wind up picking this up at some point, but if it supports gameplay for my XBox-less neighbor/drinking buddy, it'll be sooner rather than later.

gt is pringles ssf

I got the game but gotta fix up my connection for live - i am excited

I read that it is seamless multiplay, you can join in at any point with other plays I think

haven't played yet though, sure one of the other guys will set the record straight

Yes there's splitscreen and yes you get to use the same character for single AND multiplayer.

And to answer the question on shared ammo and stuff... When you pick up ammo or money or kill something, everybody in your party gets the same full amount. If you picked up $50, everybody gets $50.

you can use the same character for both single and multi. what ever u do follows over the other mode.

there is two different modes the seperation is minimal i would say.

there is local split screen from what i read.
