How does the Hellfire SMG in Borderlands 2 compare to the Combustion Hellfire in Borderlands 1? The Combustion Hellfire was my go-to-gun unless the mob had a fire affinity.

Don't know. It's like a level 9 item (figures). Around level 30, I was going back and killing scorch for a challenge and it dropped. I plan to use it with Gaige for a bit just to see, but haven't got to it yet.

Finished 1st play through at level 34 - something must've been bugged as I could just stand in one spot [far away from the vault key's location] and damage the warrior without being hit/damaged or targeted by it. I did equip an item that gave me 100% fire resist before the fight [which helped prevent any fire damage].

I think I'll take a short break as I'm not looking forward to repeating the same content over for PL2 [something I grew tired of when playing MMO's - repeating content to level up additional characters].

You can do this by dying after he spawns: Before you get to the giant blue shield thing, you can jump up some rocks to the left of the blue shield. At this spot none of his attacks will hit you and the only potential issue is running out of ammo but you can run back to the ammo dump and restock.

I gifted a friend of mine a copy of BL1: GOTY edition. I re-installed it, and decided to create a new character to play along with him, but every time I go to create a new character, by selecting "Single Player" the game crashes, and I get the following error:

General protection fault!

History: GetPluginCount() Address = 0x151488a (filename not found) [in E: \program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\borderlands\Binaries\Borderlands.exe]

Anybody have any clue what's going on?

The game and Steam is installed on D:, and I think it's probably trying to write/create a new file/character in my My Documents folder. Is there any way that the game doesn't have rights to do so, and that may be why it's crashing? Any way to make a game run in administrator mode through Steam?

Did you ever have any mods installed? The shaders files used in Oasis and possibly others started crashing BL1 at some point. The modified files could have been left in place after a past uninstall.

Huh... scrounging the net I'm finding more and more people with my same issue and none of the remedies are working for me. Some believe it's an Nvidia driver issue that needs to be fixed, some got it working with driver cleaners and reinstalls, some say install physx on its own, and all sorts of stuff. I don't know why I can't get it to work but I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out what's wrong. It's not isolated to my card either.

Fixed it! I'm not sure what game did it, but at some point Ageia physics software got installed and that was preventing Nvidia physx from loading properly. Uninstalled ageia from the control panel and I can use GPU physX properly without any issue!

And I bet your single 570 can easily process max (or close to max) settings with at least medium PhysX!

That what I figured but it was never working, and when I forced it on it apparently was using CPU mode because if enough baddies were on screen it slowed down to a crawl. Now I have no problems at all on medium. Just glad I found the solution and I don't have to worry about what might be wrong with my system :p

I did have Oasis installed. I wonder how I uninstall it?

My FPS dips below 60FPS when lots of PhysX are used and many things happens at once. I've seen it way under 40FPS sometimes. All maxed out at 1920x1200. Using GTX 670 SLI. PhysX at Autoselect in Nvidia control panel. It picks the second card for PhysX.

Tried disabling SLI and also tried using the second card as Dedicated for PhysX. Only makes things worse.

I cannot believe other people never dips below 60FPS in this game? I monitor my FPS using MSI On-Screen display at all times.

People, try and fast travel to Acoustic Caverns and start fighting there to see what FPS you get. When not fighting and not much PhysX stuff going on I stay mostly well over 60FPS.

Gaige's robot is pretty damn powerful. He just steamrolls everything in its path. One thing I find odd is you can't recall him after you dont need him anymore.

I got him recently, and my initial opinion is that he's too slow and doesn't have an aggro pull. :| He also suffers from the same short bus AI that enemies have.

How bad is the AI? Look at this picture:

You see that weird black dot near my reticle's dot? That's a bullymong. o_O

Yeah, I noticed that guys will sometimes not react to him. I was using him like a turret, so I'd toss him and then go look at chests. A few times while looking at goodies an enemy would be whacking me upside my head. Not quite as "set it and forget it" as a turret, but he takes down guys with ease. It actually surprised me, but he used a ranged attack on birds! It was like an Emperor lightning strike.

Anyways, I have no complaints. With him, I took down Boom and Bewm in under a minute. I headshotted Boom till he jumped off the cannon, and Deathtrap took care of the both of them. And he pretty much beat Flynt single handed. Again, probably a minute or less.

The farther along I got in the game the worst my frame rates became. I'm not sure why, maybe driver change I did or just more stuff on the screen. Every so often I'd get a big slow down and stutter along for a bit before recovering. Loading into sanctuary also seems to create a slow down for the first couple of seconds, almost like the level drops you in before its finished loading.

Overall though it was quite stable and generally consistent, the texture pop still annoys me. Especially when I open a chest and watch the ammo items be in full detail, fade to fuzzy, then fade back to clear again.:rolleyes:

Did beat the game last night after 40 hrs, about time really. Took me longer than I expected. Found it easy at the end, dunno if I was over leveled or just like every other boss doesn't give the same challenge as some of the ones you find in the world. Didn't even give me anything good at the end either.

Have been getting some awesome items from that loot hunter dude in sanctuary, mostly fully auto sniper rifles.:p

Picked up the season pass last night, $22.50 total from GMG isn't too bad imo since I definitely see myself getting the DLCs anyway.

The only crappy part is my friends and I are all different levels now that we beat the first play through; I feel like the game could benefit from a 'level sync' sort of system.

Hoping for a Performance patch, or better drivers from Nvidia. For me It is not acceptable that my frames will plunge to 30 - 40FPS in intense battles. For God sake, I have GTX 670 SLI and a 2600K at 4.4GHz! I cannot stand the feeling of lower than 60FPS. There is a reason I got myself GTX 670 SLI setup.

Take Skyrim as an example. It was a badly coded console port. FPS was terrible in some places, no matter how great hardware you had. Game was badly optimized. A regular guy like you and me made some optimization file and gave us for free. It took better advantage of modern CPU's and gave us an enormous performance improvement in the game.

Only then Bethesda took note of it and patched it in the game. But this was long after it's release.

Hoping Gearbox will do this a little sooner. Gearbox have shown to care for PC gamers since they did things like FOV adjustments in the game. Hoping they will make it perform like it should too. I've heard rumors their working on a patch, so it remains to be seen.

As for the texture fade-in, here is a fix:

If you’ve noticed texture pop-up when you open loot containers and it’s irritating you, you can greatly reduce it or eliminate it with this using a trick found How to Improve Borderlands 2 with .ini File Tweaks.

Find the file located at C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 2\WillowGame\Config\WillowEngine.ini. You can edit this file safely with any text editor (notepad).

As Gamefront notes, you can change the following set of settings (ctrl F to find them)

MipFadeInSpeed0=0.3
MipFadeOutSpeed0=0.1
MipFadeInSpeed1=2.0
MipFadeOutSpeed1=1.0

To all zeros, like so:

MipFadeInSpeed0=0
MipFadeOutSpeed0=0
MipFadeInSpeed1=0
MipFadeOutSpeed1=0

I believe there was a post in some thread in the video card sub-forum where they said to not use SLI with PhysX. If I remember correctly, it was mentioned that putting PhysX on a single card caused that specific card to work harder, which meant it couldn't properly keep up its actual graphics processing load. This causes the other video card to have to wait on the PhysX card, because they're supposed to be rendering in tandem.

Essentially, disable SLI and just render using one 670 and leave PhysX on the other 670.

I've tried that. It makes it even worse. When disabling SLI and setting the second card for Dedicated PhysX I get even worse FPS.

I've also tried disabling SLI and use PhysX on Primary card. And I tried SLI with PhysX on first card.

I get best FPS when I run SLI and one of the cards are also used for PhysX.

I'm telling you, this game is not well optimized yet.

This is incorrect.

I have two 680s. I've done both. Maximums and averages are way lower, and minimums are significantly lower (though less than averages and maxes) with SLI off. PhysX never uses more than 15% of one of the cards, so, even when it's utilizing that much, and let's assume there is a 10% penalty for running both rendering and PhysX on the card (actually, I don't know that there is any at all). You still have 75% of the card for display work. Even if the other card has to wait due to it, you still have 50% more video capability than an single one.

Also, the cards have 30 - 60% GPU utilization in-game when in SLI. The highest GPU utilization is strangely enough on the game menu, where both cards can have over 90% Utilization.. Lol! When these 30 - 40FPS dips occur, the cards are still running very low GPU utilization. So there is no doubt this game is badly optimized.
