I am profoundly disappointed that they saw fit to not include 4 player local co-op in a game that is totally based on co-op gameplay. I've actually decided not to buy the 4 copies I was planning on getting because of this.

Did/does the first game have that?

From the steam page for Borderlands:
Co-Op Frenzy - Fly solo in single player or drop in and out with up to 4 Player Co-Op online and offline for a maniacal multiplayer experience

From the steam page for Borderlands 2:
Dynamic Co-op online, and LAN: Share your adventures with friends both online and via LAN. Borderlands 2 features a seamless system enabling you to drop in and drop out of a campaign without ever having to restart the game. On top of that you can even take your new gear from any game to any other!

Looks like it has Lan co-op to me...

I didn't say LAN, I said Local, as in all on the same TV and game system....like they had over a decade ago in games like Halo. It is actually what made console gaming blow up in a big way, especially when the internet came down the pipe and you didn't need to hook up 4 Xboxes over a LAN to get big multiplayer games going anymore.

I don't know, I'm just disappointed that the internet and corporate greed continues to remove functionality and features from our games.

Split-screen exists on the console version. :$

Yeah, just not 4 player local. Like I said, a feature that was around a decade ago is no longer available even in a co-op based game. It's sad.

I'll stop raining on you guys' parade because I know you're excited about this game, we really were too until we found out we would all have to sit in separate rooms to play....which is not nearly as fun.

I guess I am just asking the video game community to bring the community back to the video games. When I was at UGA we used to string together 4 Xboxes and play 16 player LAN multi games of Halo all night long and it is some of the most fun I have ever had. The video game industry seems hell bent on forcing us all into dark rooms alone to milk money out of us.

Anyhow, as I said, I will drop it. I'm just hoping this reaches some people who take it into consideration and can do something about it. Have fun in Pandora....

Wonder how rare the ultra edition one is. I have a xbox and PC one coming from Amazon i was going to cancel the Xbox one but might keep it and sell it on CL or ebay if its going to be rare.

You're honestly complaining about a 5 year old gaming console not having a 4 player split screen?

Consoles are only so powerful. Running 4 separate instances of a game is taxing, especially if the graphics quality goes up each year. Needs more horsepower to generate one screen. And if you have multiple UI elements, adjusting them so each of the 4 players can see them is also difficult on the default 720p resolution that consoles output.

Like he said, they did it on the consoles before it... and even the modern Halo games do it. It's not impossible, the devs just don't take the time to do it anymore because online is the MP of choice. In the past splitscreen was the ONLY choice for MP gaming so it was worth it to have that feature. Now it's just devs not wanting to waste time on something that isn't as necessary these days, but some of us still would use it if we could.

You know, a lot of people have said that but making all 4 screens HD seems counterproductive since you'd want larger sprites and fonts in 4 player split screen. This is just the standard industry excuse.

I will leave it at that because, as I said, i don't want to crap up you guys' thread too much. Have a good one.

How would you be able to show meaningful menus in such a small space? The most you need to show in normal FPS games are kills, deaths, etc, but Borderlands has items, stats, skills, etc. That just doesn't work with a 640x360 window (720p quartered since most console games are rendered at around 720p).

On the pc you could run 4 instances of Blands, was really the only way to farm the best items haha as it boosted the difficulty and the drops got better. 3 afk hunters with rare loot mods and one real player killing things. Ate a lot of system resources.

You could use a program that would adjust your difficulty up higher without having to join in.

Well I didn't know that.

Did it have the rare item hunters though?

I'm not too sure. I never used it, but I heard about it.

EDIT:

If you want to see the Mechromancer, go to ~55 minutes in the video that I posted earlier. They stated that the progress on the class is going along really well and it might come out prior to their original 60-90 day window (after release) that they originally mentioned.

No its just a simple program that tells the game the number of players. The difficulty increase alone is actually warranted especially with how simple/poor the AI in the game is.

The fact people were doing that (multiple instances and loading up on magic find stuff) just indicates poor game design (its not a huge deal as that's very endgame type of stuff, but it could have been improved). They should have made Mad Moxxi's be an arena where you could earn better chances at top loot. Plus more unique instanced monsters like Crawmerax.
