Only in the United States of America. A convergence of two issues which I don't need to sermonize on yet again.

Ralph Yarl, from Kansas City, Missouri, was shot in the head on the evening of April 13 after he went to pick up his younger twin brothers, officials said on Sunday.
The 16-year-old was meant to pick up his younger twin brothers at a friend's house on N.E. 115th Terrace, but then mistakenly went to N.E. 115th Street, they said, according to CNN affiliate KMBC.

After ringing the doorbell, Yarl was shot by the homeowner, who police have not yet identified.

"Ralph was then able to get up and run to the neighbor's house, looking for help," Faith Spoonmore, who identified herself as Yarl's aunt, wrote on the GoFundMe page. "Unfortunately, he had to run to 3 different homes before someone finally agreed to help him after he was told to lie on the ground with his hands up."

A GoFundMe page for Ralph Yarl has been setup by his family in case you feel moved to contribute. Guess I'll need to open my checkbook.

A sad story indeed. I hope that they throw the book at the shooter. Maximum sentence!

Did the Shooter not call someone? Sounds like they opened the door, shot, then went about their business....

Unless the dude just walked through the door, I can't imagine this being justifiable.

But yet they have been released from police custody.

Know how the right tries to demean Black Lives Matter by chanting all lives matter. Apparently, that is not the case.

State only allows for 24 hour felony hold. So as long as the state debates if SYG applies, they have to let him go.

Tell me again how much safer you guys are down there with all the guns though.....
Kalif Browder spent 3 years in Rikers on the accusation of stealing a backpack.

How the fuck does this guy get out in 24 hours??

One was charged, one wasn't.

Not saying I agree with it but that's why he is out. With no charges they have to let him go. The ridiculousness here is no charges.

Uh the homeowner fired through the door then, I assume, opened said door and shot him again while he was on the ground?

I'm anti-death penalty but a little part of my brain is screaming "electric chair".

Well, I guess the suspect was let go because the victim survived. I would have hoped for a different outcome in the case of potential murder. Anyway, equal justice under the law is a total fallacy in the US.

To me there are only 2 solutions here...

The shooter should never have been issued a gun license and firearm because he is mentally not responsible enough.

Issue a firearm to the 16 year old so he can shoot back a racist old white guys.

Is there another solution I'm not considering??

how the fuck can you shoot someone through your front door and that be legal? what the fuck is wrong with America?

I can imagine circumstances where firing through a door is acceptable but they are pretty extreme and rare. If somebody is like breaking it down with an axe then have at it.

Opening up on random people who ring your doorbell is very much not acceptable.

Why not use your .02 and speak up for some solutions?

He mentions solutions, but has and will never vote for anyone to do anything about them. Instead he will continue to vote for the party that keeps making these things worse. For this and any other problem he pretends to be humane about.

It's all a show. Put your vote where your mouth is. Guy is a hypocrite of the biggest kind to make himself feel better about his shitty self.

Other than breaking down the door with an axe as another poster suggested, or shouting clear physical threats through the door, I can't see any circumstance where shooting someone through a door is legally justified.

They have stand your ground in MO, but it should be irrelevant. SYG only applies if there's an imminent physical threat to start out with. Unless there are unreported facts here, I can't see any such thing.

While I agree it is odd the homeowner was released after 24 hours, charging is the DA's decision and the DA has made no such decision as yet.

Is the bolded a statement of fact or wishful thinking because if that’s not a requirement then god damn is that state fucked up.

FYI this article says the man opened the door first.

Which doesn't change much IMO, unless he's going to say the teen lunged at him or something.
The Kansas City Star reported the 16-year-old boy, who family members have identified online as Ralph Yarl, rang the doorbell and was immediately shot by the homeowner who answered it.

Yarl was meant to pick up his brothers from a friend’s house on 115th Terrace. He ended up ringing the doorbell at a home on 115th Street, Faith Spoonmore, the teen’s aunt, wrote online.

A man opened the door, saw Yarl and shot him in the head. When Yarl fell to the ground, the man shot him again. Yarl got up and ran from the property, but he had to ask at three different homes before someone helped him, Spoonmore said.
