I am curious what you are trying to point out other than the fact that it gives them the exact authority to address this sort of urgent crisis. If we are going to use how old a statute is as an argument, then nearly every law, statute, and ruling that isn't recent, including the constitution itself is obsolete and un-enforceable. (speed limits, seatbelts, many of the work place safety regulations, the list is a mile long) Even the article states it depends on how the statute is written. You are grasping at straws looking for something that gives your argument credibility, even the article doesn't say it's illegal. Specially since we have 100 year old statutes stand up in court on a daily basis.
If OSHA did regular rule making process which takes 6 months or longer, yes their order would probably be upheld without much court fight. However they are doing an emergency order which is what the real fight is about. The last they did in in the 80's got blocked, there is high chances base on politics being we can't escape it, that courts will block it this time as well.

We should all take a step back and remind ourselves of how stupid this argument is. Basically people are desperately fighting for the ability to not get a free shot that protects them and their loved ones from a deadly virus.
I don't think this point can be overstated. It is absolutely inane that this fight even exists. It's been a fascinating read of all the recent articles comparing our cultural response to 9/11 vs Covid.

Translation: I (I being weblooker2021) am guessing and grasping cuz of feels! (Hint, what happened in the 80's as for a ruling has jack shit to do with today, as every case is different down the specific language.)Laws and statutes are not supposed to be ruled based on politics. But you are hoping that they don't rule on legality, but on feelz aka politics..

Just an aside. Wearing a seat belt does protect the other occupants from you becoming a human projectile. Similar thing happens with unrestrained pets or anything for that matter.

Also seatbelts keep you in place behind the wheel to control the car during an impact or skidding event.

I work in a foundry in rural Ontario and today they posted an announcement saying that we will be complying with any mandate that is established in the States since we have plants all over North America.

I would bet not even a quarter of the people I work with are vaccinated. At our meeting today I heard a lot of "it's illegal to fire me" "it's against the Nuremberg code" "they haven't even proved covid exists yet", etc.

Omg kill me

You are shaking my faith in Canada.

I hope I never forget. One day I think 20+ years ago I came to my volunteer gig and one of my co-workers came in and out of the blue made a rhetorical comment that stuck:

"It's really dark out there."

You see, it was a bright sunshiny day. He meant the general culture out there...

You are shaking my faith in Canada.
He just destroyed mine, not that I expected a lot after having read Red Squirrel's posts (no reflection on Red, I'm referring to the image I have of Canada based on his posts). It's OK.

They might, give it time.

So the Texas governor's order to block vax mandates in all or most companies is stalling in the state legislature. Are conservatives split in Texas over the issue? The Texans around here may have a gauge on the unity of Republicans in the state. And whether or not my question is relevant.

I thought his executive order would go into effect with little opposition or foot dragging. And within a month I figured it would've created a fierce showdown between federal and state powers. Now it's just fizzling or seems to be as far as Texas. I'm not for his order btw.

Oh heck just saw that I'm bringing up a month old since last post thread.

If it doesn't pass the legislature does that mean the EO will expire at some point?

I really don't get why republicans love pissing away tax money on stupid fights that they clearly have no legal standing on.

My mom's company announced their vaccine mandate last week and being the HR director she gets to read the exemption requests. First one claimed that injections are the mark of the beast, I told her to ask the person if that means they do dental work without numbing.

Telling employers who they can or cannot employ in an at-will state? The GOP is not so small govt after all, are they?

Heck, if it were me I'd fire that person. I'm not one for doing that but sheesh, do you want to work with crazies? OK, I get that most people are crazy, but that level of crazy is some scary shit.

He's doing what a GOP politician needs to do to move forward in his/her career. Appeal to the nutbags that comprise their party of choice. Whether or not he actually believes in this insanity is immaterial. See also Desantis and most other governors of crazy red populations.

Get rid of him and another nut that appeals to nuts takes his place. I've just about had enough and intend on getting out of Florida within a couple years and it's not an easy decision for a number of reasons. Wish I'd left back when I was younger and it would have been but hell I liked going to the beach several times a week and didn't really pay attention to old people craziness at the time 😛

This is why we need non-partisan primaries with ranked choice voting.

Abbott is a piece of work. I've been trying to get into his head but gotten nowhere. Not sure he has a mind at all, actually.

Abbott was actually less shitty than a lot of Republican governors early on, even allowed mask mandates to come back in Summer of 2020 when Texas had its first real surge. But then that piece of shit Allen West said he was running for governor and drove Abbott from being hard right to MAGAtard right for fear of being primaried. Now Abbott and Deathsantis are pretty much indistinguishable other than the walking thing.
