Ah poo, I just started a new 6-PC single player game and I'm finding out how much the Archer kicks ass... 4 attacks a round, 5 THAC0, level 8, and normal weapons... great with two invisible characters as blockers. Soooo much ranged damage... I'm envious.

Yep, the Ranger/Archer is extremely powerful in BG2. just wait until you start leveling up more. My main character was almost unstoppable. :D

i never found archers that useful. i much prefer melee characters - killing things always seems easier with them. also don't have to worry about armor penetration as much either.

if you haven't played a monk, you don't know "unstoppable" ;) try a -14AC at the end of TOB (-22 in slayer form)

Its already been proven on a number of hardcore Baldurs Gate sites that a fighter with max points in any missile weapon is much better than the Archer Kit. He's tougher, has a naturally better THAC0 and routinely gets more and harder hits, whereas an archer has to use his special power (which is limited in use) just to get that extra edge.

That all changed with 3rd edition where fighters and rangers have the same To Hit tables.
BUT... fighters do get a lot more weapon feats than anyone else so they might still have the advantage. I'll have to do some leveling in NWN2 and see who ends up being better.

Rangers always fought as fighters. Always. In 2.5 and prior, they are considered a sub-class of fighter, but with d8 hit die, with the exception of the first roll, where they got 2d8.

In 2.0, they expanded on the paladin to make it a subclass of cavalier, which was taken off the fighter subclass, but still rolled on the fighter table. The barbarian was a totally new addition, that rolled on the fighter table.

However, monks also on the thieves table, but that changed in 3.0. Now they have the same to hot probability as clerics.

I wasn't playing anymore when they come out with the points in weapon specialization, but I think that marked the point where the game had outgrown its basic premise and needed expansion and elaboration.

no bows/crossbows have a chance to slay a monster outright in a single hit. the silver sword, unyielding axe, saervok, and some halberd or another do, and that's what i like :D

anyway: BG2 at 7PM - I'm in.

The upgraded Ravager is the Halberd.

I like giving Korgan the Axe of Unyielding, giving Minsc or Keldorn a bunch of points in halberd and then giving one of them the Ravager and the other gets the Vorpal. With the sheer number of hits you get somebody is going down soon. That strategy has worked nicely for me against a lot of tough demon and lich fights. I'm not even sure if liches are supposed to be vulnerable to decapitation in AD&D 2nd edition, but it works fine in Baldurs Gate 2.

i'm trying to think of what setup i used last time.

me: monk
minsc: vorpal sword
anomen: crom faeyr
keldorn: carsomyr +6
korgan: axe of unyielding
spellcaster: really doesn't matter who.. the more spells the better (usually edwin)

Thats pretty much a perfect party right there. Or at least the ideal party for beating the game quickly and easily.
Edwin is by far the best wizard, and Anomen can heal just as good as he can fight. Everyone else is top notch in their field.

GG everyone. We may or may not play tomorrow (Sunday), but if so, I can't stay up past 10:30. Check in in this thread and let us know if you can play. We can shoot for a late after noon/early evening playtime, just post your schedule.

I'm doing a lot of apologizing these days. I've taken up crafting a story using the original NWN engine, with CEP2, DMFI and most likely HCR and it's taking so much of my time, I'm forgetting about all other considerations.

I'm trying to make it heavily story driven high adventure, like BG and BGII. In fact there is going to be a common ground for them, but I don't intend to make BGIII, per se.

I'm trying to recruit on www.neverwinterconnections.com for a builder and co-dm, but...while NWN is still played more than NWN2, patronage has fallen off sharply since its heyday.

GENERAL BALDURS GATE 2 QUESTION COMPLETELY UNRELATED TO ANYTHING GOING ON HERE:

As I understand it, they couldnt figure out a way to add special effects to individual characters so they had to put them on items and then make it so the items couldnt be removed.
Edwin is a Red Wizard and they get extra spells, but the extra spells actually come from his amulet which cant be taken off.
Imoen isnt supposed to die or be stoned before leaving Irenicus's dungeon so she starts with a belt that protects her from all kinds of bad things.

Does anybody know what effect Boo has on Minsc or what the D'Arnise signet ring does for Nalia, if anything?
(I know Nalias ring does some things as stated in its description, but since its a locked item I assume it may have other abilities, or maybe even handicaps.)

Boo does nothing, except for being fuzzy and cute, because Minsc's insane. The ring doesn't do anything beyond it's description.

And making a little noise somewhere between a beep and a squeak when you touch him. But I do seem to remember reading that there genuinely is giant space hamsters :)roll:) and that Boo may genuinely be a miniature giant space hamster.

There are miniature giant space hamsters, but it's been officially stated that Boo is just a normal fuzzy hamster. As a gag, the game developers made it so you can use a cheat to summon a Boo party member, who's got a 25 dex and strength.
