best weapon to survive the apocalypse?

you guys are forgetting the giant nuclear ants.

I will mount a giant magnifying glass above my hovel to focus the sun's rays into an ant-incinerating death ray.

I've always thought blunt weapons would be far superior to swords and stabby weapons in the zombie invasion/apocalypse situation.

They never need sharpening, or any kind of maintenance, really. Just be sure to regularly clean the blood and sinew of you victims off the spikes to prevent rusting. And be sure to save the meaty non-zombie human bits for dinner. (I mean, let's be serious. Food will be scarce)

The problem with all hand-held weapons is that you will be tired swinging your weapons at the hordes, not to mention you have to get in close with the zombies.

Last I check, zombies don't congregate in jungles (I've never seen a zombie movies with jungle backdrop). I'm pretty sure I can build some tree house mazes and swinging on vines with a katana or two on my back.

Somehow AIDS got from a monkey to a human. It is fairly safe to say that a monkey can be bitten by a zombie and get turned since the two species are so alike. Then you could potentially face zombie monkeys who would sit an wait for you to swing into their hiding place. The jungle is not safe.

Just remember guys, vote Republican. Not only will they be providing more zombies but they will also allow you to keep your firearms before hand.
The Democrats will likely want to let them in and give them voting privileges.

See the game called Dead Island...

What about a .45 rifle?

Marlin Model 1895

I would definitely use that gun. Lever action is a relatively solid design too, I hope all these people are bringing lots of cleaning supplies for their modern rifles.

Edit: I'd totally get a gunsmith to put a longer loading tube on that bad lad, and have a decent moderate power scope on it.

Definitely a 12 gauge pump action shotgun with extended tube for shells. Don't need good aim. Will knock a man down and kill with 1 shot easily. Strong sturdy weapon in general and rarely if ever jam (like an auto might). Can load it with slugs if you want a little longer range, or buckshot for up close and personal.

Shotgun.

1) Ammo is cheap (for when you're buying it now) and plentiful
2) The gun itself is simple to use & fix should you have to fix it
3) Well made shotguns have really solid butts so they're great weapons for hand to hand combat should you somehow run out of ammo

Plus a few sabot rounds for the long range shot.

how will you be able to see the sun in a nuclear winter?

I think that in the decades that it takes the nuclear ants to start appearing, the winter will have passed. Of course, I'll need all that time to collect all of the bottle bottoms and various glass bits to melt down and fashion my giant magnifying glass.

Hey, I'm only trying to be realistic here.

I grant myself +3 to stamina. problem solved.

A ball and chain morning star might be more effective. Easier to swing and create a buffer zone of death from which nothing can survive.

What tools will you have at your disposal?
Like, do you have a good axe, a good prybar, a good hatchet, a decent knife, a good spade, and a lot of duck tape?

If you have all these tools, and are able to build a decent fortification, then you could focus on having the best long range weapon.

If you don't have good tools, you'd be better off focusing your budget towards tools first.

If you are going to use a firearm as a weapon, make sure you've got at least 5000 rounds to last through the initial onslaught.

A good prybar, crowbar, or shovel can work as a decent weapon in a pinch, though a sword would probably suit you better as a weapon.

So, I'd say, best weapon to survive the apocalypse would be wits.

I haven't seen the correct answer yet: Bolt action .22

You'll die before you run out of ammo, ammo is extremely easy to carry, will not break or jam, and it will do most of the jobs you will need a firearm for. No matter the type of apocalypse, all of the large caliber stuff will run out of ammo quickly and its only really in the early days where you'll need higher firepower.

Sniper rifle, if it's just humans running amok.

If it's zombies; shot gun.

If it's aliens/demons; I would try to take one of their weapons.
