best weapon to survive the apocalypse?

rudeguy

Lifer
What would be the best weapon to survive the apocalypse. I am talking normal old society breaking down, people on the verge of eating dead bodies kind of apocalypse.

I am unsure if zombies have spawned yet or not. You may feel free to make that call.

I need this advice so I can start stocking up ammo now.

Thanks in advance

Super sharp katana or similar.
Anything that requires ammo might run out, and would require reloading which could cause problems.

Katana + jetpack and you are fine.

Fat Man mini nuke launcher. Though I'm also quite partial to the railway rifle, and board with nail in it.

Last I check, zombies don't congregate in jungles (I've never seen a zombie movies with jungle backdrop). I'm pretty sure I can build some tree house mazes and swinging on vines with a katana or two on my back.

jetpack?

Fucking brilliant!

I'm googling blueprints now

Shotgun.

1) Ammo is cheap (for when you're buying it now) and plentiful
2) The gun itself is simple to use & fix should you have to fix it
3) Well made shotguns have really solid butts so they're great weapons for hand to hand combat should you somehow run out of ammo

Google the video game Corpse Killer.

assuming we're just talking generic post-apocalyptic stuff here, I'd go with whatever gun you have the most ammo for.

I'd think something like a baseball bat would be better for zombies, though. yes, you have to get into close range, but it's silent so you're not attracting more zombies, doesn't run out of ammunition, and a metal bat probably isn't likely to break. unlike a sword/machete/axe, you wouldn't have to deal with it getting stuck either. in real life, I'd imagine you're a lot more likely to get your sword stuck half-way through someone's neck than cleanly slice off the head.

Shotgun's tough to beat. With a little knowhow you can make your own gunpowder and load it with anything from gravel to rock salt. The gun itself can last forever and all you do is point it in the general direction. Up close it will cut a man in two or throw him back several feet.

Although they are illegal for civilians to own in many states (if not all), a pump action riot shot gun can hold 16 shells. If more people then that get within shotgun range of you there isn't a lot of hope for survival anyway.

Hmm... I'm thinking that a crossbow might be a good solution. You have a good chance of being able to reuse the ammunition, and it's easier to make replacement crossbow bolts than bullets or shotgun shells when you're out in the wild.

Of course, a flamethrower would be a lot more fun if you had a large fuel supply handy.
