For an at least equally good deal, there are several quality bookshelf speakers (magnetically shielded) that can be found in the $100 pricerange. For example, ecost was selling some Wharfedale speakers at this price a short while ago (although apparently not now) that were reviewed, I think in Sound & Vision, as being some of the best speakers at under $1,000. You can also find Infinity, Acoustic Research, JBL, NHT, etc., speakers near this pricepoint, some of which have received favorable coverage in the high-end audiophile press (Stereophile, The Absolute Sound, etc.). Combine this with a $90 stereo receiver, or a $130 surround receiver, and you have a really kick-ass system -- provided you have the desk-space.
