A hot deal is a hot deal is a hot deal... sheesh

The answer to this is plainly stated in the top topic in this very forum:

"No links to deals, promotions or offers by your own business or your employer. This is the "No Dealers" rule. We do not intend our forums as a free sales floor for your business. If you want to promote your company on AnandTech, contact our sales department about buying a banner ad."

Let's think of all the people who could have and have been banned for abusing this right. It's not a matter of who cares cause it's a good price, it's a matter of moral ethics.

VERY well built.

Sound is sucky. It gave me a headache so I regretably had to return them. Plus, they were too BIG on my sizeable computer desk.

It still as good as the best of the PC speakers out in the market.

That isn't saying much though as you can create an AMAZING computer system with better parts like quality monitors, reciever or amp/preamp combo for a little more money.

The Swan price is good for students. For people with a thicker wallet, go the DIY route.

Quality Monitors: Ascend Acoustics, Axiom Audio, Norh

Low fi is low fi any way you put it.

Hifi is f*cking dangerous and it's literally on another plane of existance.

Let's not go there. At the same time let's not pretend anything sub $200 is remotely hifi or "good sounding" to hifi people.

I give a shyt, because back when the "dealers" were banned, we lost a lot of sources for our hotter deals. If one can't do it, none can!

Off my soapbox for today.

Now it is up to the mods to decide.

Hey, go create your own website if you can't be bothered to follow the rules here.

This website would quickly be completely overrun with advertisers doing self-promotion if this sort of thing were allowed. Whether or not these would sometimes be "hot deals" is irrelevant -- almost every deal is a hot deal to someone, somewhere. You really want the eBay sort of traders to start showing up here?

This guy who is not part of our community comes on here and lies about his involvement, as a way to skirt the plainly stated rules. That is unscrupulous.

I got Swan Divas in my theater room. 6.1s, R3s, and a C3. Great speakers! These desktop ones are very tempting.

The specs on these on newegg are different from the audioinsider site. Newegg has it as 5ohm (strange impedence), A.I. has it as 8ohm.

Newegg:
Frequency Response: 62Hz - 20kHz
Features: Sensitivity > 87dB; Nominal Impedance: 5 ohms; Power Range:10 - 40W

Audio Insider:
Frequency Response 55Hz-18kHz
Sensitivity (for full power output) 800mV
Nominal impedance 8 Ohms
Power Rating 36W per channel
Dimensions 331×178×267mm
13x7x10.5in.
Net Weight 12.3kg pair
27lbs pair

Which one is correct? You'd think if Audio Insider really did sell their stock to newegg, they would at least have the same description. So I dunno about that accusation.

That's happened before - in a thread about Speeze case fans, I was arguing the virtue of ball-bearing fans over sleeves, and posted the specs of the two types of fans from the mfg web site, as well as the same product listed on NewEgg. The model number of the product was identical to NewEgg, but the specs didn't quite match. So who knows where NewEgg gets their specs from, if not from the mfg. Maybe they do a quick product test themselves? I dunno. (The other possibility is a typo, or maybe NewEgg OCR's the mfg specs, and sometimes errors slip in. Actually, that could well be the reason.)

Hey guys,

The mistake is mine: Didn't realize you can't talk about stuff you're involved with. My sincere apologies.

The link between us and New Egg is far simpler than all this. We import these for them. (And we still can't believe how low they go.)

That's it. Just wanted to get the word out among friends for what will proably be a one-time blow-out.

Again, I apologize. Will ask the Mods to pull this...

Thank you for your honesty and clarification. Also thanks for the heads up on a hot deal, albeit perhaps against the forum rules.

The Swans M200s are excellent desktop PC speakers. Definitely consider them if you're looking for a great sounding 2.0 speaker set. And with 36watts/channel, they'll even play very loud for those of you who like loud gunshots and the like for Doom or whatnot :).

I think I paid $200 or so for my pair a couple years ago, back when they were being sold by av123.com. And I still think that was a good deal. $169 is a great deal, made even better by the cheap $6 shipping fee.

Wow anyone know how this speaker compares to other 2 speaker systems? I'm wary of getting a 2 speaker system that is without a subwoofer. Looking at the reviews it doesn't seem like that big of a deal but I don't know....

Dunno about swans, but CES awards don't mean anything, actually a scam IMHO, since winning requires a hefty fee. I do know that using a cheap normal receiver and hifi speaker can sound great compared to any computer speakers I have heard.

OTOH I use an old set of Cambridge soundworks PC works speakers I bought for $10 at a clearance.

I don't think it should matter for a computer in a small room. Now if you plan on using these for home theater...

Of course, as always, how "right" these speakers are for you depends on lots of things--most importantly, your listening preferences.

You sell them on your website so you must have some knowledge as to how Newegg got them. :)

Exactly why Jon Lane should be banned and this topic deleted.

Please explain to me what he did wrong to be banned. As far as I can tell, all he did is point us to a good deal, which is great I think

"No links to deals, promotions or offers by your own business or your employer. This is the "No Dealers" rule. We do not intend our forums as a free sales floor for your business. If you want to promote your company on AnandTech, contact our sales department about buying a banner ad

I don't see how the poster violeted this rule. The offer is by a customer of his company, not his business/employer. The way I see it, this is similar to an intel employee posting a dell hot deal.

I don't necessarily disagree this conflicts with the spirit of the rule, semantically it is acceptable. You point out that you don't want this to descend into a morass of ebay auctioneers posting all their links here. Wouldn't it make sense that we don't want to go the other direction? If you argue the spirit of the rule, then nobody who owns stock in a company should post any deals for the company.

While this thread might deserve a lock, those of you calling for a ban are getting a little excessive when the poster followed the letter of the rules. Particularly considering he/she is forthcoming about their conflict of interest posting the deal.

I hope this is the last post of this kind. First look at
this. He is the admin of the site that is the only supplier of the speakers that newegg now sells. This means that he will directly benifit from any sales made. He is not the boxer at his company's plant so this is not an issue of an intel employee recomending a Dell computer. Making outragous claims to analyze how you see the problem is not helpful.

My opinion: it would be stupid to ban him as he has not technically broken written rules. A new rule should be written to take care of this loophole and he should be warned.

Well, if we're done (doubt it) arguing about the valididty of the thread, I just received and hooked up mine (God I love Newegg). I'm not an audiophile really - they're replacing the built-in speakers on my crappy TV - but I gotta say, these things sound damn sweet. And they're built like freakin' tanks; beautiful, heavy-duty units.
