decided to install Unreal Gold for some retro-gaming.

Added patch 227i and now has OpenGL and OpenAL support.

Looks pretty damned good.

I was at my parents house not too long ago and found the Unreal icon in the games folder. To my delight the game apparently doesn't require a disc check because I was able to play even though the disc is LONG gone.

It's still a fun game.

The needles in my arm of the day:

Unreal Tournament 99
Baldur's Gate
Dungeon Keeper 1 & 2 (how has this not been remade? Kickstarter!)
Planescape
Fallout1
Total Annihilation and Kingdoms. (Am I the only one who liked Kingdoms? A solid 7 or 7.5 to me...) 🙂

That brings back some memories. Unreal was the first online game I got into. I loved it and would hit up the same couple of servers every evening after work. Then I moved to a house with nothing but dial-up, got married, had kids, stopped multiplayer gaming for the most part. I haven't played that game in years (and haven't played the multiplayer for well over a decade) but I can still go through the maps in my head (especially Elsinore and my favorite custom map, Castle Falkenstein)

UT99 was my first multiplayer game experience.

Unreal is one of my all time favourite games. Old by today's standards, it is still fun to play.

I loved TA, one of my favourite RTS games besides Starcraft: BW. But I could get never get into Kingdoms.

Correction: I LOVE TA

I saw Star Control 2 mentioned a couple times here, and if you were unaware, there is a FREE fan made version of the game out :

http://sc2.sourceforge.net/downloads.php

It's called the Ur-Quan Masters, but it is Star Control 2 made from the original source.

Even better - there is also the new Ur-Quan Masters HIGH DEF version! All new art, looks glorious! And 100% free!

There's also another "sequel" fan project... Star Control 3029 (or some other number like that.)

X-Wing and Tie fighter were spectacular (especially with a good General MIDI synthesizer for the amazing and always-changing soundtrack!) X-vs-Tie STANK! X-Wing Alliance was the last of the series and was top-notch!

in regards to Unreal:

I just noticed that when you activate the Flack Cannon it sounds remarkably like R2D2 screaming.

very odd.

Got to love the 90's, back when games came in huge cardboard boxes, with 10 floppy drives and 2 inch thick manuals.

A few I recall

Zork I, II and III
Half-Life
Red Baron
Aces of the Pacific
Close Combat Series
Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe
Star Trek: 25th Anniversary
Star Wars: X-Wing & Tie Fighter
Microprose World Circuit
Papyrus Indy Car Racing (remember calling tech support to get this running, had to create a boot disk, on a 486DX with 4MB of RAM to make it work)

I love this game. Airfix dogfighter. Wish they would remake it.

Novalogic Delta Force 2, Commache Gold (that game was a groundbreaker for me), and F-22 LIII (total novalogic whore here).
