Best pre 2000 pc game?

I am thinking of doing some really old school marathon. Do you guys have any suggestions?

I mentioned Populous The Beginning in another thread. Looking for more. They can be around 2000, it is still pretty old !

Wasteland was the best game released in 1988. It's probably a bit hard to take without nostalgia glasses though.

Yeah, many of the games require that. I remember thinking i would play Morrowind forever! Tried it lately, could not stomach it.

You never need to mention planescape Torment! What a life changing experience. I believe it still holds the bar high for many of the games that came out recently.
