looks like they both clock very well B's being able to clock higher with lower voltage, possibly

Your right; I need to stand my ground, lol

Plus I am very happy with this Gigabyte board so far. Been playing with it for maybe 30 mins (actual time in bios). I really havent messed with any settings and I am currently running 8.5x500=4225mhz. I couldnt even get to 460 on my dfi; so I am really amazed at this board.

I may sell my p5K Dlx and get another one of these for my Q9450! havent much time with P5k either but I dont think it does as good as this one.

now to see how stable I can get this Q9550. may try to see how high I can go and get to run within windows. I have always run this cpu at 3.6 now Im at 4.25; very amazed. was going to sell this cpu but not anymore, lol

I thought of that. They are only good though if you do the MIR. They list at the egg for 229 with a 100 er so MIR... I am soo trying to sort out all my possibilities and take the best upgrade course with my best options at least cost 😕

Did you manage to finish the loop for the Q9550? If so, do you have any photos

Edit: Oops, sorry BTRY for the typo; it's a Q9650 not a Q5550.

You did what I should of done and got my Q9650 up and running - stay strong brother; in another 6 months the 32 node Nehalems will be out from what i've heard and then considering an i7 will be a sane thing to do

500 is amzing!!! And with a quad to say the least! I think I might swap out the DDR3 board and install the 8400 board with the DDR 900 for the Quad. I'll just have to sell off the P5Q3 Deluxe ... :brokenheart: ...

Yes my loop for my 9650 is done and bled but I am tossing up ideas on what route to go with. Once I figure things out Ill post pics. The loop lines aren't as straight and neat as I hope them to be but, meh.

Thanks,
I will try my hardest to stay strong; I will just have to focus on what I already have.

I already had the vendetta 2 running on the Q9550, ordered the Xigmatek before I decided to look into H2O. so until I order my parts; I am going to play with these coolers and see which one I get better temps on.

I think I might try to order some parts this weekend for H2O.

I should also finish to see what results I can get on this cpu before I move to I7 anyways. No sense in moving to new tech when I dont even know what my current tech can do for me, lol

Also whay are you thinking of getting rid os your P5Q3?

I can see it, you are going to be happy with your air cool temps and skip H20 all together, haha 🙂

Honestly, I can't believe this loop is over with. I guess the real fun part begins when overclocking.

Get your parts already, you have a nice setup it seems, lol

Well, it seems to be the most obvious move for me to do if I keep this i7 which I think I am. I can just re-allocate the DDR3 I already have for the i7 build. Take the Asus P5Q Premium board with the DDR 2 900 (8gb worth) and throw it in the H20 case with the Q9650 which will ultimately mean I will have less storage space/hd slots and a few other dilemmas that put me in a disorganized way; 24/7 machine. You thinking of making me an offer on it?

LOL; no I cannot make you an offer; Im saving for H2o remember:laugh:

I was just curious cause I wasnt exactly sure what you plans were. Im a little confused on what your new plans are?

sell the P5Q3. put the Q9650 into the P5Q prem and sell the E8400?

cant you just buy 1 stick of ram for tri-channel on the I7? probably not cost effective to buy 1 stick.

also how do you like that P5Q prem? I thought about buying the deluxe, but decided to get this Gigabyte; more proof of getting a quad to 500-500+ on cpu bus. I have seen results of close to 500 for quad on P5Q's but wasnt sure.

I usually buy only Asus or DFI, but took the plunge to gigabyte and am happy with the results. just wish I could find more results on the Asus. right now I have my wifes on that P5k using the wi-fi which is a nice feature. Not neccessary but it works. I have a wireless usb thing from qwest, but have never gottin to work.

EDIT: almost forgot to add; about your comment on staying on air. Real temp is currently showing 25/25C, max of 35/36c. (this is 8.5x525=4463mhz) not sure what ambient is; probably around 68F approx. My temps on real temp; hope they are accurate.

anyways; even if I am getting good temps; I still want to learn and get an H2o setup.
Or keep this one on air and get an I7 an H2o FTW, lol j/k, but would be nice

Yeah, possibly be selling off the P5Q3 Deluxe and 8400 too. Really the only thing extra i have is the P5Q3, I still have my P5K-E (with 4Gb of some Adata DDR2 800) board to use if I want... I just will have to use the DDR3 with the i7 to save $$$/myself. I wish I could just buy one stick of the Super Talent but they aren't offering it yet, ..yet. I ought to write them and see whats up. I love the P5Q Premium. It has dual RAID controllers. That's the reason why I bought it; got the idea of saving on slots with a raid card for my storage config. Nice layout, No problems at all.

What readings do you get with Core Temp? OMG that's fast! How are you managing your NB voltages?

Keep the sale of items in FS/FT section and comply with that sections rules please.

sorry, did not know this really fell under that section. I wanst trying to buy anything, just trying to figure out what his plans are since he fell off the train and went for the I7, lol

also for voltages; They are all at the minimum. the cpu was at 1.4 for the 4.5ghz; just wanted to see how high i could get on factory settings. I have to go out right now, but will post back with more details. Made it to 8.5x530 on factory settings; would not get into windows at 535; not bad for a quad. be back in a few hours

when you say factory settings, did you use AUTO or manually enter the proper voltages? MANY boards tend to overvolt when you use AUTO and push up the FSB.

I will have to double check. I was going to say auto, but thought that they were set to a minimum value. This is why I stated factory settings.

I am not sure what the max value is for cpu voltage, but I have seen many running at above 1.4v also I had it set on auto for cpu and realized that it bumped it up to 1.4; my DFI never went above 1.35. The temps I gave you were core temps of 24/25celcius at or near 4.5ghz

My current temps are 18-20 celcius and cpu is at 1.2v running 8.5x471 giving me 4ghz. I will check the bios to see what the voltages are. and all this was just a quick comparison against my DFI board. each time I booted up was only for 5-10 min max and temps according to real temp v2.70 show max temp on current settings=24/25c.

when I gave you the other specs max temps were up to apprx 7 degrees more.

hope this answered your questions BTRY
I am really curious as to what max is on your p5q prem? I think I hit a wall or limit at 535 on this gigabyte. really want to change to a p45 board on my wifes puter even though she says its fine at 3.6ghz, but I always like to get the most for the money I spend.

will be back with voltages just for clarification

ok fellas, i've got my Asus P5Q Premium swapped out, installed in my V1100b, bolted down, CPU block tightened, cards in, pump running to test for leaks until it's up and running then i'll switch the molex to the primary PSU, wires routed for 'as neat as possible' still looks hideous, gonna plug things up here in a minute and see what happens. I also have pics I'll upload when i get things all packed away again nice and neat. Gonna recheck everything again, then fire her up ***needs a name for her***

wish me luck

Good luck and cant wait to see the results.

also on a side note. voltages were set to auto; need to see if they change when I get up there in the clocks. right now as it sits 8.5*471.... vcore=1.2, cpu term v=1.2, cpu pll=1.5, cpu reference v=0.760. there are other voltages that I am not 100% sure what they are and how to adjust, but will do research on this particular boards and work on it.

cant wait to see the pics and to get this strait; you are now running the Q9650 on the P5Q Premium correct?

I'm back, Thanks, any second now. Things are staged and 99% put away. Yes, my Q9650 is now on my DDR2 Asus P5Q Premium P45 motherboard with 8Gb of DDR2 900... still, ...feels like i'm forgetting something... btw I will not be pushing this for a while. Hopefully if the block is on correctly I won't have to fiddle around anymore. I will be running everything at stock and will give temp readings using Core Temp. Currently my ambients are 69*f & 25% humidity.

sweet. How is core temp compared to real temp? LOL i didnt understand you earlier, but found the core temp prog.. will download and compare to real temp

dont forget pics

EDIT: k, downloaded core temp 0.99.3. Core temps are showing 5c more than real temp. Core temp showing 23/24c when real temp is showing 18/19c

omg 20C and your not tweeking?

dont make me bop you with a stuffed sock and say homie dont play that.

Bah, i'm getting all kinds of temp readings.

In the bios, it stated 20*c/68.5*f,
Real Temp 2.70 reads: 27*c on the first two cores and 23*c on the second two.
Core Temp .99 reads: 37*c on the first two cores and 33* o the second two.
Hardware Monitor reads: 32*c on the first two cores and 28* on the second two.

But what I'm concerned about first is this app CPUID Hardware Monitor gives voltage readings and the vcore jumps to 2.04, then drops to 0.01, VIN1 is steady at 1.70 then drops to 0.00, VIN3 1.26v then drops off to 0.10v with most of the readings from Windbond W83627DHG fluctuating too much too often. Could I possibly need to reinstall from the OS on up? I've already pulled the cmos and reset everything. All bios tweaking options have been left on auto... When I had my 8400 in here it was solid as a rock after some voltage changes. It could be my memory voltages... see, this is why I don't start off crankin away. Things need to be monitored the first week or two.

Know one actually knows how to correctly calibrate the readings from the cores. I've got for different programs and all 4 give me different readings.

In a quiet room, that pump is loud. To the point where I think it will start to bother me. It's been running for more than 6hrs so I mean, it must be at the 'quiet' point.

Pics soon

EDIT: its louder than my old 15k SCSI drive, this is not good

now your scaring me; didnt you go with the MCP-355 pump? can you compare the noise to something?
I take it that you can hear the pump over all your fans for the rad and case.

Im sure you will, but keep us posted on your findings and results. maybe you need to reseat the block.

Also cant recall, but are you just cooling the cpu for now or did you add anything else to the loop

Yah, got the 355 pump. I'd say its like a moderately loud hum. Clocked at 4Ghz and fails prime 95 with 1.27vcore 1.4v NB

EDIT; Update: I think my NB was holding me back. I knew there wouldn't be a fan cooling things down in that area like with a HS&F but I didn't take it too seriously. I just mounted a 120mm fan on top of my block feed line towards the NB & Ram and Prime95 is running longer than it did before: although i did bump up the vcore to 1.30 which I will be testing for lower vcores. I am going to go through the best pics that illustrate what I did for the rest of my setup but stay tuned.

How are things going for you? I think if I would of known I would of went with a quieter pump. At the same rate, this case isn't very quiet. I use to never be able to hear my Raptor accessing info, now, its like "where did that come from!"
