Yeah, sorry, but you and all the rest are just grasping at straws. He already will be labeled as a jerk for ever more, so it doesn't really matter what he does. I don't like the man much at all, but there was nothing wrong with what he did. Set an example? Yeah, because walking off the field after you've basically had the wind knocked out of you is so much worse than cheating, or dressing like a hobo, or being an a-hole. Please, people need to stop with this "set an example, be a role model" crap.

yeap i agree.

now people are just looking for excuses to complain about him.

but it was OK for everyone to tear into Randy Moss when he did it years ago?

Billy is a sore loser, who left his defense/team out there to finish the game and then he lies about it saying he didnt know the score.......that sounds about right.

The Patriots are classless douchebags. Same team that did the lights out dance last year in San Diego (act like you've been there before?). Even Ladanian said maybe it all comes down from the coach......everyone knows the Pats and their bandwagon fans have no class so lets just let the douchebaggery go.

I have no problems with what he did, I would have been surprised if he actually showed some class.......so whys everyone else acting like they didnt expect it.

1 second left with them having 4 downs yeah there really was not a point ot play it.

i just think this is people trying to blow up something that is not there.

the fact reminds that with even 1 second left the teams have to go out onto the field and let the clock officially run out. what would happen if his whole team abandoned ship with him? the game wasn't over, and he high tailed it. it wasn't the right move. it sets a poor example for the kids watching the game, too. it really looked like he was a sore loser.
It looked more like he was devastated and dissapointed than a sore loser. A sore loser wouldn't have given Coughlin his props on the field.
he's not that stupid. :p

if he walked out without shaking Coughlin's hand he would be labeled a total jerk forevermore.
Instead of being a labled a jerk by "people" like you because he walked off the field with one second left after the field had be rushed by fans and security? There's a lot he can be justly critisized for, this isn't one of them.

Hey, she's pretty much expert on jerks.

When he was headed out onto the field the clock had already ticked down; by the time the ref whispered in his ear that they were putting time back on, it wasn't like he was going to walk off the field and repeat the entire thing again. He shook the guy's hand like a proper sportsman and left the field to let the victors celebrate.

The people who are already inclined to hate the guy are the only ones fussing like babies over this. Get a grip. It would have been idiotic for him to walk back off the field, wait the couple of minutes for everyone else to clear off, walk back on to shake the other coach's hand and then finally head to the locker room. I doubt he put one hundredth of the time to think about the decision that you folks are giving it.

go ahead and give him a free pass, but kids across America watched the Super Bowl and asked their parents why Belichick left the field before the game was over.
i guess when the going gets tough they should do like Belichick did and just leave rather than finish it out.

You have got to be kidding? There are a lot of people who should be criticized about being a role model before Billy boy here (honestly, what kid looks up to a coach as a role model, they're all about the players). Again, you're just grasping at straws and stop with the nanny, we need other people for our kids to look up to BS. There's plenty of positive role models, its not our fault parents are too stupid to inform their kids about them (or be one themselves). At first I just disagreed with your argument, now I think its pathetic that you actually are so serious about it and are trying to pull the "think of the children" line.

QFT.

i have to agree. pulling "think of the children" bullshit is just stupid. it is nto going to effect kids at all. they see worse crap during the game (though i am impressed i didnt see many nasty plays or any fights (but was half drunk in the 2nd half heh)).

Yup. Parents should be role models, not people on tv. If parents are letting their children learn how to act from what they see on tv, good luck..

Nobody, including myself, gives a shit about the Patriots. It's just gotten exceptionally old listening to whiners on both sides of the fence whine about football. Shut up already. You sound like 9 year olds.

Odd - I don't think anyone is forcing you to click on this thread and read it. If its gotten so old, then just stay out of the thread

I find it hard to believe that Bill didn't know about the 1 second left. That being said I don't think its that big of a deal. Frankly I was surprised that they made them run one more play. I think anyone bothered by this should take solace in the fact that they lost the superbowl to one of the biggest underdogs in SB history

I think this is really more about the way the Belichick and the Pats acted during the regular season than it is about the last second of the Superbowl.

Thank you for that insightful contribution to this thread.

Yours was way better.

What's with your mind-police bullshit? Lots of people, including myself, give a shit about the Patriots, and about football. What people don't give a shit about is what you think. You can't tell people how to care about sports and expect to be taken seriously. Shut up and mind your own damn business if you don't want to talk about it. Troll.

Well, if your life is that dull that you have to be that attached to a game...suit yourself.

good luck with that one. kids are influenced by all kinds of factors unless they have no contact with the outside world.

Why can't fans be more like ThePresence? Just enjoy the f*cking game, congratulate the winner, and face defeat! I haven't seen a classless Giants fan on this board yet. Most of the assholes are Patriots "fans" and "fans" of teams that lost to them.

I don't have a problem with the way Belichick conducted himself in the last second of that game, he took care of his "obligation" to shake the other coach's hand. I wouldn't really have a burning desire to fight through a chaotic and dangerous crowd, jog all the way back to the sidelines, and stand there like a dope while Fox gets another 20 seconds to zoom in on my face hoping for emotion either.

Everything in the world is an example for kids, they don't exist in a vacuum. If they hadn't seen Belichick walk off the field with 1 meaningless second left, they would have seen somebody kicking a dog the next day or dropping F-bombs in the line to check out at Walmart. It's the parents' job to give their kids guidance when things happen, that's how they learn (your standards of) right and wrong.

The best example of poor sportsmanship that day was Mercury Morris calling in live to Sportscenter within 20 minutes of the end of the game and doing the usual utterly classless '72 Dolphins gloating. That would be where I'd turn to the kids and tell them that's how you *don't* behave.

I'm so fucking sick of hearing about this. I'm not a Patriots fan by any means but how can you guys manage to spin this only on Belichek? It's absolutely ridiculous. BOTH sides got onto the field, including some fans, and Belichek/Coughling exchanged words, then that was it. Why the hell would a coach stay on the field to watch the team who just beat him celebrate? Once you shake hands it's done. It was just a weird situation.

Honestly, I'm beginning to think that everyone who keeps trying to blow this out of proportion are only the people who watch just the Super Bowl and no other football ever. Get the fuck over it.

speaking of petty quibbles...

please tell me that was a typo, and that you actually meant to say "the fact remains".

Even she isn't classless. She just thinks that Belichick shouldn't have run off. Fair enough.

Of all the things to focus on in that Super Bowl, this is not worthwhile.

There needs to be a "Pink Hat" icon to apply to all these "true" fans of teams/sports.

So if the entire Patriots team had followed their coach off the field with one second left on the clock...would that have constituted a forfeit?

How would that have looked in the record books?
18*-0-1 forfeit?
18*-1 (forfeit) ?

The refs would have gone into the locker room and gotten the players to come out. It has happened before.
