Empathy? His team went 18-1 this season while continually and intentionally running up the score against lesser opponents. Why should anyone feel sorry for him? Yeah, losing the Super Bowl was a disappointing loss but if they had won would you tell Tom Coughlin that everything is hunky-dory because the Patriots were not disappointed? They won 18 games this season, how is that not an accomplishment? It's not this sole incident, it's the fact that Belichick has been the same way the whole season. Would it be okay if Tom Coughlin acted like a prick just because his team didn't have as good of a record? Empathy my ass.

I don't feel a bit bad. Someone had to lose and you can't pity either team because it was them. That's sports. That's competition.

I agree. its a game. someone has to lose. i don't feel bad for them. same way i don't feel bad for the teams the pats beat and "ran the score up".

anyway it was a good game.

He's a dickhead regardless of what he does. He knew there was 1 second on the clock. He didn't care. Big surprise to anyone? Of course not.

Everything they do is criticized, whether accurately or not. As if losing wasn't enough you have to nitpick at the most inane shit possible. As a kid, playing sports, I saw coaches spit on their own hand before shaking the hands of our players / coach. And you think a kid is going to be bothered because he walked out onto the field and shook the other coach's hand? I'd have been honored. It showed that he was completely devastated, that my team had destroyed them but he would still honor the hand shake.

You guys better hope the Patriots suck ass next year.

I figure the devil came to him first. Maybe he needed another $.45 for a Big Mac. We know BB drives a hard bargain.

I don't understand why this is an issue at all. I've seen it multiple times where there is 20 seconds left, team with the ball kneels is down, and they all walk onto/off the field. That is with 15 seconds left. No one cares then. The game isn't "officially" over at that point, as a team could call a timeout if they had one left. Having 1 second left and walking off the field actually seems like less of an offense, and I still don't even consider that one.

He went and shook Tom's hand. That was the main thing. Even if he is an a-hole, that loss had to hurt on an epic level. That being said, I couldn't stop smiling the rest of Sunday night because of it. Great game all the way around. I'm not going to complain about 1 second.

LOL, it's like he made a deal with the Devil. A chance to go down as the HC of the greatest team ever only to be defeated in the final game by a team that wasn't even expected to compete thus ruining his legacy. That seems Devilish to me:laugh:

I didn't read every post to this point but the ones I did read made me wonder....

Was I the only kid that never looked at professional athletes as role models?

I never really thought about it much... I'm going to have to ask my son about it... he's 9.. prime age for that kind of thing.

i can't tell if you are joking or are serious because it's obvious to anyone who has ever watched football what the difference between your 2 examples are.

I think the league should fine him. That was very unprofessional and smacks of him being a sore loser...which we all know, he is.

Damn, he just walked off the field after losing one of the toughest games in his career. Why are we all grasping at straws trying to make him even more of a douche bag?

I thought that was already apparent, and I love him for being one. :D

Who says the game is officially over at that point? I realize there is a difference in that there is more time left of the "official" game. Who is to say someone won't call a timeout just to be difficult? I've actually seen it happen before. If there are no timeouts left, then it is more understandable.

I guess if I were a coach I would be known as the a-hole that calls timeouts when the other team is kneeling at the end of the game. More specifically at 1 second after everyone is already on the field. Just for my own personal amusement.

My main point is "Who cares?" Pats lost, and that is all I wanted from the game. :)

Nobody, including myself, gives a shit about the Patriots. It's just gotten exceptionally old listening to whiners on both sides of the fence whine about football. Shut up already. You sound like 9 year olds.

I say it again, thanks to certain type of "fans" the stupid, freaking handshake after a game has become more important than the game itself.

Get over yourselves. You would find something to criticize no matter what because you're simply swallowing what your being spoon fed by the "media" that is simply trying to stir up stuff for the ratings.

Exactly
Not to mention there were already eleventy billion people on the field. He walked out, shook hands and started to leave the field. Even I didn't think they were going to get that last play off and Im sure down on the field, in the middle of the chaos and confusion it felt even less like it was going to be snapped.

Belichek is a prick, but he's not an asshole.

What's with your mind-police bullshit? Lots of people, including myself, give a shit about the Patriots, and about football. What people don't give a shit about is what you think. You can't tell people how to care about sports and expect to be taken seriously. Shut up and mind your own damn business if you don't want to talk about it. Troll.

I don't see the big deal. He probably did think it was over when he started out and then was told there's a second left once he was out there. So he didnt go back to wait the one second. Why is this such a big deal? There are so many better reasons to hate him. :)

Coughlin has stated he thought the game was over too and has no issues with what happened. Get over it people.

Odd - I don't think anyone is forcing you to click on this thread and read it. If its gotten so old, then just stay out of the thread

I find it hard to believe that Bill didn't know about the 1 second left. That being said I don't think its that big of a deal. Frankly I was surprised that they made them run one more play. I think anyone bothered by this should take solace in the fact that they lost the superbowl to one of the biggest underdogs in SB history
