I for one am on the bandwagon for 2 gig. Game was playing quite nicely with my newly purchased Corsair Value. Menu swapping was hitch free. Had to pull 1 gig out and send it back(memtest errors) and the diff is night and day. Game takes forever to get text loaded and hitchy as hell for the first 5 minutes. Game is playable with 1 gig but I cant wait to get my new stick back.

Well, I was hoping I'd have my new system up and running by now with 2GB OCZ Platinum, but the monkeys at UPS missed another scheduled delivery, so I"M SOL again. I hope they can get it right tomorrow (their 3rd try). Man, their service is really getting terrible!

Maybe this weekend or early next week I've have some numbers to post...

yes 4x 512 confirmed ddr400 but only @ 2T..wouldn't post at 1T which it was set at when i was noly 1 gig.
Of course i spent 45 min wondering WTF was wrong..thought I had bad ram...heh
Cpuz confirms dual channel...But I think the fact that I have Venice is what allows it to run at 400...

My venice wont let me run 768mb X 2 dual channel at 400mhz, I can only get around 360DDR. I had 2x256 in dual channel but added another 1gig DC kit and its still does dual channel, but not at 400mhz

Grr this makes me angry.. If I were to put another 2x512 in my board it would default all to DDR333. :(

I am using maximum settings (1600x1200, everything High, 4x AA) and 1.5GB is quite playable, a whole lot moreso than 1GB was. My point is that suggesting that 2GB is necessary for maximum settings is a little misleading, since 1.5GB seems to be just fine. I understand that 2GB is the best number to shoot for when buying memory for a variety of reasons, but, for those like me who are just looking to patch up their system as cheaply as possible, adding any amount of memory over 1GB that you can will greatly improve playability at max settings. If you can steal a stick from another system (even if it's only 128 or 256MB, but especially if it's 512MB), do it.

1.5GB is not a natural step for most systems. Hence why i referred to 2GB.

All up to date intel users, and the vast majority of AMD users, operate in dual channel, and need matched pairs to run at optimal speeds. Hence 2x512 or 4x512 or 2x1024. I do however agree, the memory usage never does seem to exceed 1400MB (including windows overhead) so 1.5GB resuls should match 2GB results (if you have a single channel system).

This story just gets worse and worse... Last night I was told by UPS that there customer service center is open 24 hours a day and I could call and talk to a rep anytime. When I called back after 9:30PM PST, I got the good old, "We're closed" voice message.

This morning I called and was told that because one of my packages hadn't been scanned they could hold it for me. They had to start an investigation and only the shipper could start one (I couldn't even do that!:|). On the second package which didn't show on the website as being in my town yet, they said call us back when the web page shows that it is in your town and we'll have it held for you. Soo... I called back a few minutes later when it was showing up as being in my town. Now they tell me that they have to make a delivery attempt before they can hold it!!! :| :| Can't this organization at least keep it's story straight! Everytime I call I get a different answer! This is so frustrating! I WILL NEVER USE UPS AGAIN!
They seem hell bent on not delivering my packages until after Monday.

At least they didnt destroy a $1000 vapochill system, then refuse to cover it on the insurance policy, and after 10 months of fighting settle for $150. That happened to me. Theyve also destroyed 2 LCDs, left 2 signature required packages (that fvcking said DELL on the side of the box) on my doorstep (one was stolen, another insurance fight ensued, and i had to take UPS to small claims to get my money).

I ship everything fedex now, its cheaper, and i have no problems at all.

Well, I got my new 3000+ venice and my 2x1GB XMS. I can tell you that it did make a difference in menu speed as well as smoothness of gameplay. The only thing is, that I had to set my CPU back to stock speed (on a freaking venice) with my 9NDA3+. What an amazing peice of crap this board is. I will never by Epox again, it is the worst overclocker I have ever had.

Im running RAM @ 166 (aka 333) anyway with a divider so I can be 250 FSB with ram at 208 anyway..Unless your benchmarking memory speeds with WINRAR, 1.5-2 gigs of ram at anyspeed is worth not hitching in this game.

Do u think that 1.5 GB's would help enough? I only have 3 memory slots, and I don't wanna toss my Patriot ram...

I was going to go to 2gig... was ready to order it. But then I got this 7800GTX in, and my hitching went away. So I guess I wont, and Ill be more than happy to keep my 1T timings...

Could it be the local video memory increase decreasing the system memory usage?

I have wondered if that would be the case.

I hope so. I am NOT looking forward to spending money on 2 new gigabyte sticks to avoid the DDR333/2T consequence. I love my TCCD 1GB RAM, and I spent $240 on it. *cry* Yes, this was just before Zebo started his value RAM sticky thread. Me and my luck. :(

Uhh but the 7800GTX still has 256 MB doesn't it? I have 256 MB on my 6800NU now and I get hitching at high.

Can somebody PLEASE find me benchmarks of DDR333/2T consequences? I'm irritated that my A64 can't address 3 slots of RAM at ALL, nor can it address 4 without a severe memory bandwidth decrease. I thought I had 4 slots of RAM to which I could put anything I wanted. It's a total scam. Looks like I may not have to worry about it (until the time comes), so thanks for the heads up Ackmed. This was with the same version of BF2 before and after you got your 7800GTX though, correct? If that happened to be the same time you installed the full BF2, that probably would have fixed it too.

If it's not VRAM size, could it be VRAM bandwidth, Acanthus?

Well, while waiting for my 1 gb stick of Corsair VS to get back I finally got one of my extra 512 sticks to work with my existing 1 gb stick in my Neo2(had to go 2T). Made a difference. Not sure if it is as much of a difference as with 2 gb(no benchmarks) but definetly better than 1.

upgrading from 512MB to 1.5GB got rid of all the stuttering but did not improve the framerate at all for me.

Man, you're right about that one. That is much, much worse. No, this bugs me more than anything else because I'm building a computer for my dad who recently had a heart attack. He's on very restricted activity and really needs something to do. I promised him I'd bring him a new shiny PC next week (my old one) but I can't get it ready if I can't get my new system up and running and the stuff transferred off). I really want to get it to him ASAP.

I will NEVER use UPS again and I'm thinking about trying to start a movement to get vendors to stop offering their shipping. It's sad really. They used to be so professional before the idiots in charge decided they had to squeeze their workers and underpay them. Now they suck.

Back on topic, it'll be awhile before I can get some benchmarks up and running. I'll do my best. One package arrive today. Another is still MIA. UPS refuses to look for it saying the shipper has to contact them. Hopefully I'll have some results by next week, maybe mid week.

Hmm...that's odd. Some people with 1 GB have no problems at all. You don't have *any* stuttering at the beginning of the multiplayer round? How many players are you playing with? What settings? ALL high? What are the rest of your system specs (mobo, CPU, hard disk, audio card)?

bandwidth should not help, and i think you are correct, the GTX is 256MB, so that isnt it either.

I have not tested memory usage in the full game yet, maybe other maps eat up less memory. Ill have to get on that over the holiday weekend, i work again tonight :(

right now I only got the demo so only 1 map to test on. if there's any 'inside' maps I bet they would be faster. terrain is heavy on the system.

why would vram bandwidth not be a possibility? that's the only difference between 7800 and 6800 (besides the obvious). i mean the only difference that would prevent that hitchy feeling at the beginning of rounds.

this memory situation I have here really blows. i don't wanna give this tccd ram away. what do you think i should do...ddr333/2t would probably feel like crap so i can't put two more 512s in here. thanks to socket 939 i cant put a 1GB stick in the 3rd slot either. just kinda sucks getting 3-4-4-8 ram to replace my 2-2-2-5 because i'm picky like that and also just spent $240 on it last year. if anything i dont want to see a potential performance decrease from any of the paths i decide upon which to upgrade... if i do two more 512s it's going to have to be ddr333/2t, and if i get new 2gb value ram it's going to be 3-4-4-8 or something close. i'm not spending another $240 on 2-3-2-5 2x1GB RAM. i want a frickin' 7800! then again i'd hate for this tccd ram to go to waste in my crappy old pentium 4 PC, lol. guess I better start mowing some lawns. ;)

out of curiosity, does the athlon 64 x2 have a fully working memory controller where i can use 4 slots of whatever i please, with no ddr333/2t compromises? because that's just plain lame and i feel like i've been ripped off, having my motherboard manual say it supports 4 slots.

I went out and bought another gig of ram with this game and performance is much better than what it was in the demo. I feel like I'm the first one in the game every round. :)

Because VRAM bandwidth wouldn't reduce the amount of geometry and textures that need to be stored all at once, which is whats consuming all the space. More local memory on a video card, would, however.
