well, my machine as listed below plays the demo version online quite nicely...never seem to have any problems as such, mostly high settings, 1280 ressie.......dont notice any particularly long slowdowns........first few seconds of spawning there is a hitch for a few seconds, bit like HL2, but thats about it......*shrugs*

and i've usually got Teamspeak and a browser open, and my activesync for my imate jam...heh

or are you people talking in millisecond lag?...heh

What I would like to know is how much of the 256mb of DDR3 on my 6800 Ultra is being used on this game  I just have to beleive they don't have efficient use of video card texture loading/buffering or something, relying on main memmory instead.

They should have packaged this game with an extra 1gig of ram inside :)

Lol, that can be the new thing.

Preorder Battlefield 2:Bonus Edition today and reachieve 1GB of DDR400 memory included free!

Better deal then including a gamepad or a heatset.

Those hitches are freakin' annoying. It's been the cause of 1 in every 10 of my deaths. Well it's time for me to spend an extra $125 and get another GB of RAM.

so with a winchester core, if i go to 4x512, i will be knocked down to ddr333 and 2T, is that correct?

would it be better to go for 2 gb of This ram? and also, how well can this ram overclock, i am not talking like ddr500 speeds but like ddr420 or so?

for everybody buying more ram, are you getting 2x1gb or just throwing in another 2x512mb to your existing 2x512? doesnt that affect timings?

That's exactly what I just bought. I'll have it here in a few days and can tell you then if you wish.

I have the same question. And would the FPS improve with 2GB of RAM over 1GB? And does turning dynamic lighting off reduce the IQ that much?

Check this link out.

If you have a s939 A64 and want 2GB of ram, you need to get 2x1GB DIMMs. OCZ have some nice ones with low timings.

According to the link:

So there you have it. Memory speed can get you more performance in games. So it comes down to what you'll be doing with the system, at this point.

For gaming, you'll probably want to go with 4x512 of memory that is known to hit good speeds (240MHz or so) and keep decent 2.5-2-2 or 2-2-2 timings. As you can see, you don't have to worry about the 2T performance hit because the memory speed will more than compensate that. Crucial Ballistix fits this bill and is much cheaper than the alternative of GSkill TCCD. Or, you could try your luck with 2 gigs of TwinMOS SP or Mushkin Redline.

For basically all else, it would probably be quite a bit cheaper to get 2x1024mb sticks.

I bought 2x1GB because I just don't like to clog up all the ram slots. I just like to have room for growth. I'm going to use my 2x512 on another build.

I got the Patriot 3200LLK which have almost the same spec so maybe they use the same chip. The patriot doesn't OC very well, it's currently running at ddr412 C2-3-2-5

It is not particularly helpful to discuss the requirement without specifying game settings, memory usage by the game independent of the system, viddy card memory capacity and its ability to claim system memory. This is especially true since many users are reporting 1GB to be on the borderline.

One system may utilize 150MB before running the game while another 500MB. A viddy card with insufficient VRAM (128MB) may claim another 256MB system RAM, if allowed. So one system may require 900MB to prevent degradation while another may require 1100MB or more.

Personally, while not having tested much, the demo with generally medium settings @ 960 has not peaked beyond 1GB (perhaps 650MB for the game) and there has been no hitching. But it is close enough that I would not be surprised to see it exceeded with higher settings and larger maps.

Maybe a combination of more VRAM and game optimizations could keep it under 1GB. But, based upon the BF1942 example, perhaps detailed mods like Forgotten Hope could decisively push the requirement towards 2GB.

Does Dynamic Lighting provide much IQ increase? Is it like Dynamic Shadows that just tune the ends of the shadow or something like that?

Thats what they all say initially...Sell your TCCDs and picking up 2 GBs of Corsair value for a little extra :)

Exactly what i did, ended up being a $30 upgrade, and after testing, a ~2% performance loss because im no longer running 1:1. Ill take the 2% for battlefield 2 :D

I play BF2 on Overall Quailty set on "High" and it uses 669 MB of memory. When I have no programs running, it stays at 156 MB. So, playing BF2 makes it jump to 825 MB. I haven no problems with any slow downs what so ever. :)

When I started playing I was getting around 45FPS then now my average is 30FPS, even after I turned some settigns down. It's like my hardware just got worse when playing the game or something. It's weird.

Just for everyone turn you Effects detail dow to Low. I was running at 1024x768, 4x AA, 0x AF, All details high. I was running at 30FPS. Now that i turned down effects detail to low it runs at 60FPS! Also turn off Dynamic Lights and Dynamic Shadows. They seem to provide no IQ increase, but a very little performance decrease as well.

I'll wait until other games that need 2gb until I make a pruchase.

I'm waiting for Dell to ship my game... finally put that $50 gift card I won during that Delf/Christmas thing last year to use. Playing the demo, I have everything set to high with 4xAA/8xAF with Dynamic Shadows set to Off (graphical glitch with drivers when turned on)... and I never hitch once, no matter how big the server. I'm getting a steady 30-40 FPS... hopefully when the game comes, it'll be the same.

playing on a gig and this is what is playable for me, not saying its like 60FPS constant, but to me its definately staying above 25 probably hovering 40-50

everything on HIGH
Except dynamic lights and shadows, these are on MEDIUM, and it seems turning them down improves load times, infact i may just turn them off, they flicker around and look crap anyway

12x10 res, 2xAA, 8xAF,
6800GT @ 400/1.1

and ive been playing all day on 32 and 64 player maps, so ive played pretty much a good handful of maps now, and while yes 2Gb will certainl make life easier...it is by no means a MUST HAVE
