Ok, so I've tried to install it right after installing the game, and it gives me a «You already have a newer version installed.» message. Do I have to install patch 1.41 before? I don't have that patch anymore in my backups, another 500MB+ download if I have to get it dammit. Anyone else got that message if they try to install it right after they installed the game?
Annoying stuff...
Yes you need it before
Yup. I tried to install the 1.5 patch over a retail install but got that message. I installed the 1.41 patch and then the 1.5 patch and everything worked.
It worked. I was able to get the 1.41 patch at a constant 530 kb/s on FileFront, really nice. I played just a few minutes after setting up my in-game settings, then I was kicked due to the Punkbuster version being too old. I would have guessed that the patch would have updated that but no. So a heads up to everyone who might get kicked for the same reason, just go to the Punkbuster's web-site and get their latest client (version 3.4), and ask the setup to update BF2 itself.
Also I noticed that for some reason anti-aliasing doesn't work, nor even anisotropic-filtering. The last time I played, roughly a year ago, was on Windows XP, now I'm on Vista x64, so maybe that's the problem, or perhaps a drivers-related issue. But I arranged everything in the NVIDIA control panel to make sure it wouldn't conflict with the game's settings, still no go. Is anyone else having problems applying AA and/or AF in Vista x64?
EDIT: Looks like A-A works now, but not on everything, that's strange. I disabled A-A in-game, quit the game, rebooted the PC, started the game again, and now it works, but as I said, it's not being applied on everything, although I don't clearly remember if it was the same back then on Windows XP. I notice that the weapons for instance, and some trees are still very jagged, while the rest is properly anti-aliased. And A-F... I'm not sure, I think it's applied now, but I completely forgot about how blurry the textures were, so maybe it's just an illusion of it not being applied simply due to the textures being that old and low-resolution.
