Is this patch an add on after 1.41 or a totally fresh patch?

At work and can't check

Thanks,
Lee

You must patch to 1.41 first. If you have everything BF2, the full install order is now:

Install BF2
Install Special Forces
Install patch 1.41
Install patch 1.5

Cool...appreciate it.

And how big is that 1.5 patch?

Yeah, it's 1.9 GB (ouch!)

I'm downloading it at FileFront right now, at around 400 kb/s, somewhat constant, it sometimes decreases to about 200 kb/s though, Torrents should be better given proper seeding, but I'm used to get my stuff from good old FileFront.

It's posted on usenet as well.

For those with usenet access. It's under alt.binaries.nl

Damn I hate it when you have all these links and they're all maxed out.

Only server I found is going at 22kbps. It'll be freaking done tomorrow. Anyone have any good links that aren't torrents???

I've been using hyperion since about the time the download was released. I still have 200mb left (I'm on a 20mbit connection). Once I'm done I'll start seeding via bt.

Woke up from my short nap to a downloaded patch. Installed that mess (and it doesn't have that messy old patch software they used in 1.41) and started playing some single player just to get used to the new maps and guns. I'm definitely playing after Thursday night.

Just added FileFront link. I'm getting 125K right now. Hopefully it will speed up, since that has 4.5 hour remaining...

Thanks. Filefront is usually fast for me but they're probably getting hammered too. I'm only getting ~100kbps from them.

I was getting 1.1mbps from FileFront. Wide-screen is great aside from your HUD still being stretched. What an awesome patch to one of the best multiplayer games.

I haven't played it yet. Is it really noticeable or is there not much done to it to notice? I read what it updates but how noticeable is it? I bet there's a crapload of people playing it today.

Ok, so I've tried to install it right after installing the game, and it gives me a «You already have a newer version installed.» message. Do I have to install patch 1.41 before? I don't have that patch anymore in my backups, another 500MB+ download if I have to get it dammit. Anyone else got that message if they try to install it right after they installed the game?

Annoying stuff...

Yup. I tried to install the 1.5 patch over a retail install but got that message. I installed the 1.41 patch and then the 1.5 patch and everything worked.

Yup. I tried to install the 1.5 patch over a retail install but got that message. I installed the 1.41 patch and then the 1.5 patch and everything worked.

It worked. I was able to get the 1.41 patch at a constant 530 kb/s on FileFront, really nice. I played just a few minutes after setting up my in-game settings, then I was kicked due to the Punkbuster version being too old. I would have guessed that the patch would have updated that but no. So a heads up to everyone who might get kicked for the same reason, just go to the Punkbuster's web-site and get their latest client (version 3.4), and ask the setup to update BF2 itself.

Also I noticed that for some reason anti-aliasing doesn't work, nor even anisotropic-filtering. The last time I played, roughly a year ago, was on Windows XP, now I'm on Vista x64, so maybe that's the problem, or perhaps a drivers-related issue. But I arranged everything in the NVIDIA control panel to make sure it wouldn't conflict with the game's settings, still no go. Is anyone else having problems applying AA and/or AF in Vista x64?

EDIT: Looks like A-A works now, but not on everything, that's strange. I disabled A-A in-game, quit the game, rebooted the PC, started the game again, and now it works, but as I said, it's not being applied on everything, although I don't clearly remember if it was the same back then on Windows XP. I notice that the weapons for instance, and some trees are still very jagged, while the rest is properly anti-aliased. And A-F... I'm not sure, I think it's applied now, but I completely forgot about how blurry the textures were, so maybe it's just an illusion of it not being applied simply due to the textures being that old and low-resolution.

AA seems fine to me. It's a really jagged game and the trees really wont benefit that much from the AA but a lot of the other stuff does.

i just checked and SF doesn't require disc either. although barely any servers are online atm.

Gully, Thanks for posting all the info and keeping it up to date. Overall I think the patch is pretty good. I like the fact that I can finally try out the maps from the booster packs.

Maybe we could get together a list of favorite/regular servers that folks visit. I haven't really played in quite a while, but it would be cool to try and hop in with some others.

ugh wtf.. I can't even get the 1.5 patch to install. As soon as I click the executable, the patch promptly exits. It doesn't even run at all. ARG...

I've tried "run as administrator..."
I've killed every process except essential ones. No go :( I'm sad :(

specs of computer in sig.
