already did. I've also already reinstalled the game, installed 1.41. I downloaded 1.5 from another mirror, and still no go. The damn 1.5 setup executable just refuses to run. Nothing shows up on task manager

GAHH now with EU being free too I've been playing the Great Wall of China map for the past couple hours and I need to go to sleep.

I loaded it up last night with the patch and just got onto an empty server to configure things...

Locked up after 10 minutes.

Running on Vista x64 so I am not sure if that matters or not...I thought i have seen folks say they were playing on Vista

I wonder if I need to run it in compatibility mode

I'm playing it on Vista 32. Have never tried it on 64 but I am not surprised you're having trouble with it. On Vista 32 I set the compatibility properties to run as admin and disable the desktop visual features and it runs well.

How long are you waiting? The executable is almost 2 gigs, and it took quite a bit of thrashing on my system before the first window displayed. I'm talking a minute or two at least. I didn't check to see when it showed up in task manager.

I hope the patch fixes whatever was causing my problems playing this game after upgrading 2 years ago to an 8800GT and an AMD dual core. My frames stayed in the 20s. Before that on a single core AMD 4000+ and a 7900GT, I could play in the 80s on high. That?s why I quit playing BF2. I still have it installed, so I?m going to try this patch. Sucks that I spent $20 on the boosters and they?re free now?but then again, they are pretty old.

Still downloading the patch. I am kinda miffed that they made the booster packs free since I paid for them, but at the same time, I hated the fact that I paid for them and couldn't play them. My clan's BF2 server would just die anytime we had a booster pack map in the rotation, maybe now the server pop will stay high.

I figured it out. Windows update was running, so I let it do its thing (install important updates), killed it on reboot, and installed instantly.

I'm not having any problems with it on Vista64. Didn't have to change any compatibility settings or anything. Runs flawless for me. Damn I'm addicted to this game again. The EU maps are cool cus I never bought that one. I had everything add-on except the EU and they're sweet.

Yep same thing happened to me but I usually get let things runs their course.

Yea I'm not that annoyed that they are free now. The booster packs were great maps that almost no one played. I bought them so long ago I'm glad they're free now.

I loved the Euro maps. My favorite map of all time is the one that looks like you're in the oilfields in the middle east...I forgot what that one is called. Been 2 years since I've played, but I'm d/l the patch now and I hope everything works well with it.

I was wondering if anyone wants to be a nice guy if they could help me get the basic knife badge? It's the only one I've never gotten and have never been able to go up in rank cus I don't have it. I'd be glad to help anyone else here with what they need as well.

Find a server with "Time Server" in it's title and then go in and see how many people you can stab before you get kicked!

It would be awesome if you could get it that way, they freakin deserve it!

I started the update via that downloader thing, which installed some sort of virus/malware on my computer (btdna.exe that appears to be a hidden bit torrent client). I only found it after not being able to get a good ping to any server.

Other than that great patch!

HA lol thanks for the tip. I don't care if I get kicked I have needed that badge for like 3 years and have never been able to get it. I stopped playing BF2 for like 2 years cus I got frustrated that I could never get it.

I tried it but they kick you the minute you leave HQ. Oh well. It'll be like the white whale that I never got.
