Anybody want to play tonight? I am wanting to see if my bandwidth can hold atleast 10 people without considerable lag, so if you guys don't mind being the guinea pigs, come on in!

EDIT: Nevermind about that. I lagged on my own computer so bad with just me in there. Am I doing anything wrong? I chose the Run Dedicated Server option from the program list instead of creating the server in-game. Should I shut down all programs in the background or does that effect it?
You can't host a dedicated server and connect to it using the same PC. You found out why. 😉
Just host a listen server... you don't affect the clients as much as you'd think. That's what I've been doing and with my maxclients set to 6 I havn't had any more complaints. 8 was too many for RR cable.

If you're having trouble joining a specific IP like I am, specify the IP from the command line like so:

1. In Windows, go to Start > Run...
2. Specify the path to BF1942Demo.exe. Then add to the end of the string: +restart 1 +joinServer IPADDRESS +isInternet 1

Example:

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942 Multiplayer Demo\BF1942Demo.exe" +restart 1 +joinServer 127.0.0.1 +isInternet 1

That will make BF1942 attempt to join a server at IP 127.0.0.1.

If you need to connect to a non-default BF1942 server port (default is 14567), type the IP address as IPADDRESS😛ORT.

Example:

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942 Multiplayer Demo\BF1942Demo.exe" +restart 1 +joinServer 127.0.0.1:666 +isInternet 1

That will make BF1942 attempt to join a server at IP 127.0.0.1, port 666.

3. Hit OK and the game will launch directly into connecting to the server IP specified. Play the game.

There seem to be lots of bugs with the system freezing anytime something happens like a server restarting or when you get disconnected. There've been several times I wasn't sure the system was even still working while the game decided whether it wanted to disconnect me or not. And since they disabled the ability to alt-tab, it's impossible to be sure until the game responds again.

Playing with people from AT is nice and all, but an 8 player game (STILL with the sides uneven of course) just isn't that exciting. I'm not even happy about a 32 player limit, though obviously that's got to be in there if they expect people to run their own servers. I'd have been more happy with 64 or even 128 players on official servers (and maybe allow personal servers limited to 32). 32 is only just barely enough to let people defend flag points while still being able to attack others. With only 16 per side, and all the people that fight over planes, that doesn't leave many attackers or defenders. With more people, there'd be a better chance of having a real fighting force, and being able to build some strategy after culling out the morons that camp the planes (and then shoot them down if somebody gets there first).

Of course, I'm a whiner, so I have a lot of other "suggestions" for the game, many of them things that will stop me from being happy if I buy it and the problems still exist, but EA helpfully didn't provide a way to give them feedback about the game on the website, and I'm not sure why they bothered with a multiplayer "test" if the game went gold a week later. There's no way they incorporated anything they did manage to get from the test.
