yep. VERY well said. barring some other fumble, this race is now McCain's to lose.
You hacks are comical, arguing your pathetic little political teams still while Bush's economy crumbles, and pretending you're still fighting the great conservative battle against socialism while Bush did more to socialize this country's economy and strengthen the federal govt than any president in US history. Maybe someday we can hope you'll wake to reality rather than rhetoric.
No one is going to care about Obama's pastor in November.

hahahahahahah you bring up bush in a obama thread and call other posters belittling names. whos the hack again?

Let's try this again with small words that even a talk radio show listener can understand: a vote for McCain is re-electing Bush. And Bush has tanked our country's economy selling off the nation's silverware and china, just in case you haven't been paying attention to current events.
Now... are you seriously going to tell me that you're going to vote for McCain, so he and Bush's cronies can continue screwing you over economically, just because you're concerned about Obama's pastor?
And are you seriously trying to tell me that pointing out the obvious here makes me a hack?

So yeah, I will call you belittling names. The biggest wealth re-distribution scheme in decades is being carried out right now on Wall Street, the taxpayers and the American people are being taking to the cleaners, and you're worried about Obama's pastor?!?

No one is going to care about Obama's pastor in November.

imho the most important part of his speech is as follows:

In the end, then, what is called for is nothing more, and nothing less, than what all the world's great religions demand -- that we do unto others as we would have them do unto us. Let us be our brother's keeper, Scripture tells us. Let us be our sister's keeper. Let us find that common stake we all have in one another, and let our politics reflect that spirit as well.

who give's a rat's ass about what his pastor says given the fact that Obama has come out and universally denounced those poor messages delivered by his pastor. Obama did an excellent job painting the race issue as more complex than the simple minded thinking of his opponents. He goes into detail as to why the pastor represents both the good, and the bad of black america. He also goes on to explain how white america has legitimate racial concerns, his OWN GRANDMOTHER used racial slurs and was afraid to walk on the same side of the street as black men. He is describing us all to the "T." Like Moonbeam says all too often, we are so afraid to see whats in the mirror.

His analogy to the boxing ring is particularly spot on...if we retreat back to our corners after this latest racial issue, there will be no chance for change. You people that cannot see beyond the words of his pastor have given no chance for change. What are you so afraid of? that Obama is right???

Well I guess we have no choice but to vote for Obama now. I mean now if we actually support anyone other then him, it would be a step back on the race issue and there will be no chance for change. Geez, if this is not a race card, I dunno what is.

Okay, whereupon I can easily point out that McCain's "spiritual advisers" are Robertson and the late Falwell, who said that 9/11 was God's punishment for be tolerant to gays.

ohhhh boy. rofl.

No one is going to care what a pastor said when november comes around. Obama doesn't talk remotely like that pastor. It's a non-issue. McCain is "friends" with crazy pastors too but it doesn't mean McCain believes gays are making god damn america either. Either one is just stupid and people know it but continue to spout the crap anyway.

Mr. McCain, in his speech, assailed those who would "smear the positions of my supporters." He was referring to a taped phone call to Michigan voters from Mr. Robertson, in which the television evangelist accused a McCain aide of being bigoted against the religious right.

"The political tactics of division and slander are not our values," Mr. McCain said. "They are corrupting influences on religion and politics, and those who practice them in the name of religion or in the name of the Republican Party or in the name of America shame our faith, our party and our country."

"Neither party," Mr. McCain added, "should be defined by pandering to the outer reaches of American politics and the agents of intolerance."

There was no immediate reaction from Mr. Falwell, the founder of the Moral Majority, or from Mr. Robertson, founder of the Christian Coalition.

OK. Because you say so:roll:.

listen to talk radio pal, many many middle of the road dems are jumping ship just because of these two issues.

First, that's not what she said. Second, racist whackjob pastors are gathering around McCain and he's happily courting them.

what she said was "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country"

add that in with the preacher and it is bad

Keyword is bolded. Nothing racist or anti-American about that.

She wasn't REALLYproud of her country when:

We landed on the Moon.
Civil rights movement made huge gains for her own people.
We single handedly out spent the USSR making them have to tear down the wall.
Liberated Kuwait.
Give Billions to Africa for aids research/and drugs. (Oh I just realized that might be a bad one as her pastor believes that whitey made that.)

I guess she was sort of proud?

Did you miss that? It was right before he called Falwell and Robertson Agents of Intolerance and right before they jointly conducted his wedding ceremony. It was very moving.

Worse. Instead of having worked beside a man for many years helping him build up the community in spite of some views you don't agree with....he blasted their views for years as being destructive towards the community (GOP community) and then went begging for their support.

Edit: Wanted to add context to my above comment with a quote from Sen. McCain.

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRA...PTS/0002/28/se.01.html

Neither party should be defined by pandering to the outer reaches of American politics and the agents of intolerance, whether they be Louis Farrakhan or Al Sharpton on the left, or Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell on the right.

That was on Feb. 28, 2000.

Fast forward to May 7, 2006:

Falwell approached McCain, not the other way around. And interviews with both suggest that it is Falwell, not McCain, who is more willing to be flexible. McCain's visit to Liberty University is indeed a conciliatory signal not just to Falwell but to millions of Christian conservatives who question the depth of McCain's commitment on issues such as abortion and same-sex marriage. But it is as much a chance for Falwell and his supporters to assert their influence in the Republican Party -- an influence that has waned in recent years.

I don't know about you but reading something in the history books is different from experiencing it. Living in NYC, I was really proud of America right after 9/11. Before then, it wasn't anything I'd experienced.

How about some critical reading friends. She said "adult life" and she turned 18 in 1982. I wasn't a history major but I think the nazis were way earlier, like in the 60s or something.

God this is beyond rich. Obama holding hands with a racist for 20 years is now superior to smacking down right wing zealots when it matters, and simply pandering to get elected which everyone does. Your moral compass needs serious readjustment. WrightIsWrong.

First, Obama was dealt this "race card". I really don't think it was his choice. I'm pretty sure he'd rather the whole thing had never come up.

Second, and I haven't yet seen the speech, if he managed to artfully turn this thing into a uplifting reason to vote for him he's as smart and politically gifted as I've thought.

IMO, and this from a conservative, the more the guys in the spotlight - no matter the reason - the better he looks. THis is a welcome change from the likes of GWB or even HRC.

I wonder if the Hillary campaign is concerned about "irrelevannce"? Obama and his preacher seemed to have pushed her off the media stage lately.

Yes, I'm sure Hillary is scathing mad she doesn't have to spend a week convincing americans the racist rants of her closest spiritual advisor don't accurately reflect her views.

Strike 1 = when his wife said that for the FIRST time she was proud of america.

strike 2= having a extreme whackjob racist pastor as your spiritual adviser for 20 years...

strike 3= there is no strike 3 his campaign is done.

C'mon

saved europe from nazis
saved asia from japan tyranny
saved half of korea from communism
sacrificed soldiers in attempt to save vietnam from the communists

How about some critical reading friends. She said "adult life" and she turned 18 in 1982. I wasn't a history major but I think the nazis were way earlier, like in the 60s or something.

She's probably not proud of her country for the reasons she stated here http://www.newyorker.com/repor..._collins?currentPage=3

Obama begins with a broad assessment of life in America in 2008, and life is not good: we?re a divided country, we?re a country that is ?just downright mean,? we are ?guided by fear,? we?re a nation of cynics, sloths, and complacents.

Some might see that as another strike but, this time, I'd probably have to agree...even though that's not a good thing for a First Lady to be saying about her country. Maybe it's just some tough love. :)
