Jeebus people.

KISS is the right answer for this topic. Then any boy band, then all rap.

Fern

go back to P&N, U2 is more overrated then crysis
You think Achtung Baby, War and Joshua Tree were over rated?

Yeah, I don't get all the U2 hate?

I remember them back in the early 80's, they were very good.

Alright Legend, who do you think is very influential, deserving of their fame?

Weird Al.

Weird Al doesn't write his music.......

It was a joke.

Sabbath, Floyd, LZ, Hendrix, cream.

as you can see, I am not much of a pop rock person.

Osbourne: We started off playing jazz and blues. Cream, Fleetwood Mac, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, the Beatles and Jethro Tull were our influences. At one point, we had a bottleneck-guitar player and a saxophone player.

http://whiners.awardspace.com/beatles_floyd.htm
It's no secret the Beatles were a great influence on Syd Barrett and Roger Waters. Both mention John Lennon in particular as a force in their musical upbringing.

http://en.allexperts.com/q/Hen...478/Jimi-Hendrix-5.htm
He [Jimmy Hendrix] cited many many influences, even Bach for example. It is evident from his music that the major influences were the blues greats such as Muddy Waters, BB King, Freddie King, Albert King, John Lee Hooker, Elmore James Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf,... as well as The Beatles, Bob Dylan (an enormous influence), Tim Rose (for his interpretation of Billy Robert's "Hey Joe") and all the R&B artists that he backed in his early days. He saw Elvis in the fifties, which obviously infuenced him. He loved Clapton's playing also.

Most of the kiddies who are doing the hating probably were listening to Barney the Dinosaur back then.

U2's earlier stuff was very very good. War, Joshua Tree, Actung Baby. Great Great Albums. I hated the "Pop" experiment. It was different, just not in a good way for me. Their newer stuff is kind of lost on me but I will admit I am a sucker for A Beautiful Day

Weird Al f-ing sucks, what are you talking about?

You're dead to me! DEAD!

Yeah he's not as bad as "They may be Giants". As Odin would say "They suck"

J/K;)

I like TMBG. Maybe you're j/k about that part? I just recently found out they won a Grammy, which would be cool if the Grammy Awards still meant something.

Agreed. Only a handful of good songs have come out recently. Hoping that the new album is gonna be dynamite though..

Have you ever listened to "Bad" by them?

They are alright, Frog loves them and I was just teasing him. I hear they make albums for children, is that what they won a Grammy for?

For fairly mainstream bands, I have to submit greenday.

Their songs are very simplistic and sound extremely similar to me.

Actually, they won the Grammy for the theme song to Malcolm in the Middle.
But everyone knows the Grammys became worthless once they gave one to Jethro Tull--er, Metallica.

Don't get all the Metallica hate either.

I don't agree with their viewpoints on file sharing and I feel their recent stuff is not that good but they put out lots of good music back in the day.

Thread is too long so only read half, but to everyone saying the Beatles were great and bla, heres what I have to say:

I could fart into a mic in a rhythmic sequence and call it revolutionary... But is it any good?

If you want true musical genius look at classical composers instead... Metal (and every good music) draws much more heavily from classical music than some pop like the beatles.. They did nothing someone else wouldnt have done around the same time

Id say pretty much everything that has a mainstream sound fits into this thread... I cant stand that stupid guitar tone with the same stupid melody over and over "Na na nananana na nananana na nananana" and teen angst vocals ... God, kill them already LOL *beep* MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE*beep*

Bad was never released as a single, but still it is my favorite U2 song and I think it epitomizes what they are all about.

Check out the Rattle and Hum and Norwegian Wood performances of it.. Bono's vocals are absolutely top notch.

The problem classical composers have is that they didn't have bands with kickass names ;)
The Beatles influenced metal as well. Have you heard Helter Skelter?
And yes, metal bands did go on to draw from classical, but not before the Beatles famously did it. That's why they're an influence :p
"Because" was inspired by Lennon hearing Yoko play Moonlight Sonata.

I didn't even have to read any of the posts in this thread and i knew what the answers were going to consist of.

1) bashing of any and all boy bands
2) bashing of rap/hip hop
3) bashing of teen angst type bands
4) bashing of the most popular bands ever (beatles, metallica, u2, et al)
5) bashing of just flat out popular bands period.
6) arguments over who deserves the bashing or not

Looks like i was spot on in what i expected of this thread. Good job ATOT.

Well, isn't this thread posted once or twice every year?
Why should that stop you from jumping into the fray :D

Because it's always just a matter of opinion and personal preference. I'm not going to change someones mind and people aren't going to change mine, so what's the point? There isn't one.

But you guys feel free to carry on, which you all will.
