Alright Legend, who do you think is very influential, deserving of their fame?

Weird Al.

Weird Al doesn't write his music.......

It was a joke.

Sabbath, Floyd, LZ, Hendrix, cream.

as you can see, I am not much of a pop rock person.
All good/great bands but none of them even came close to having the influence that the Beatles did on music.

I love LZ, Floyd, Hendrix, and Cream much more than I love the Beatles but I don't deny the Beetles influence. I also think its selling the Beetles short to call them pop rock. The Beatles cover a wide wide range of music.

There are early Beatles that are very pop rocky but later Beatles are very different in style and could be characterized as being much more progressive and psychedelic. And they did these things way before other bands. Now were they the very first? probably not, but they brought it to the main stream just like LZ brought blues music to the rock mainstream. Calling the Beatles a pop rock band is like me calling Zepplin a blues cover band.

Speaking of influence, Hendrix did an entire show playing every song off of Sergeant Peppers right when the record came out.

For some non pop rocky but still fairly accessible Beatles, I like Tomorrow Never Knows, While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

Um, yeah, he does, and quite well.

I think he meant in the sense that he more or less samples, or roughly uses other's base music. He obviously writes his own lyrics and such.

No, he's written a number of his own songs in addition to the parodies which make him famous.

Thats probably true but he is more known for his parodies and nobody else really takes Weird Al's original music and samples them or parodies them or cites him for their influence.

He might be an extraordinary music writer for all I know but he is definitely not influential with his original music.

I can't believe some of the bands listed here. The Beatles? Rolling Stones? U2?

Jeebus people.

KISS is the right answer for this topic. Then any boy band, then all rap.

I agree with you on KISS but can't agree on boy band or rap.

You might not like boy bands or rap but when you name an entire genre that is liked by a wide range of people, it really shows your bias.

I don't know how people can say Nirvana. Sure, they may have not been musical geniuses but they practically started a whole genre of music.

because they were not anywhere near the best of the grunge movement yet get all the credit, i give them a 6/10

They don't have to be the best to be the most influential.

I would say a band like Mudhoney/Green River is much more influential to the genre than Nirvana was and in fact I would go so far as to say there would be no Nirvana at all if not for Mudhoney.

KISS is pretty much famous because of their live shows AFAIK. I imagine that probably served as influence for some stuff we see in live shows today.

^^^ Winner

I think people just get off slamming things they don't like, but I totally don't get it. Perfect example is me and Dave Matthews Band. They're critically acclaimed, and they have some very dedicated fans. I don't really get it at all, though I can tell they're extremely talented, I just don't enjoy their music at all. So their success doesn't bother me in the least, nor do I think they're overrated or undeserving of it.

When it comes to most pop/rap garbage, well .. if I have nothing nice to say, then I'll just ignore them.

Yes their production value and marketing was definitely top notch. KISS saves Xmas hehe. And they likely influenced the 80s hair band trend so I guess me saying they weren't that influential is arguably hypocritical.

I don't listen to a lot of rap but I find it musically interesting. My default genre of music is classic rock but I like driving to hip hop and rap and some of it is mighty catchy.

I also find it interesting that often there will be a hip hop song with completely misogynist lyrics yet women are able to enjoy and dance to it. Thus I feel that there is something of value there musically. That the music is catchy enough or enjoyable enough that people are able to ignore the lyrics.

For example I find it difficult for women to agree to a song with the lyrics of say "I wanna fu** you already know" in any other genre of music aside from hip hop.

So because somebody posts in P&N they can't contribute anywhere else? That's pretty prickish.

You think Achtung Baby, War and Joshua Tree were over rated?

Aerosmith. The bassist went to my school, but Stephen Tyler's screaming really kills the band.

Edit: Yes, Amy Winehouse too. Not only is she ugly, she's not a good singer. I don't get it.

Weird Al f-ing sucks, what are you talking about?

My list:
Creed
Fall Out Boy
Weird Al
Any "Boy Band"
Any crunk rap "artist"
U2

There are more, but these annoy me often enough that I can remember them off the top of my head.

Tool gets my vote

I tend to agree. I like Tool, don't get me wrong, but I don't quite get why people are so enamored with them. I loved Opiate, but I became a little bit more bored with each release until 10,000 Days pretty much put me to sleep (aside from a few good bits here and there).

Yeah he's not as bad as "They may be Giants". As Odin would say "They suck"
