Ugh my NFS is so bloody slow. Getting 8MB/sec FFS and it's slowing down my whole machine making the cursor all jumpy and crap. I really need to figure out what is making it so damn slow but I just don't know what, been troubleshooting this for years. I think I need to just move to samba or something. Never really liked NFS anyway, the permission system is super archaic.

There must be a setting somewhere where it caches it somewhere. Big transfers tend to get slower and slower until they just grind to a halt, but eventually they speed up again. Small transfers seem to go faster. Either way I need to revamp all of that one day. Maybe simply upgrading to latest OS/version of everything and re-configuring from scratch will fix the problem.

Older pic but nothing in the front changed:

That big machine is my mining rig which is turned off. I want to build two more similar machines (but smaller cases) at some point and make a proper VM cluster with Proxmox and migrate off ESXi.

So officially working from home now, this is neat... except I wish I had a normal phone. Softphone is kinda meh. It does not ring the same, it's just a single short tone. So I can't leave the computer at all or I'll miss calls. Also need to wear the headset to hear, but I ordered parts from Digikey to make a switcher, so I'll make it go to speakers then hit a button to pickup head set.

what no bt headset?

Just wired. Had to use what was available to be quickly shipped. I could look at getting a blutooth one out of pocket if I wanted to. Not sure how that works with a computer though, most of them are for cell phones. Need some kind of BT receiver that plugs into the PC's audio.

I am assuming your computer has BT? then you just need a bt receiver module

something like this. you just connect your headset to this and pair with your computer

I don't think it does, how would that work, just be built into the motherboard?

Can't be ordering anything from Ebay or Amazon these days though. Pandemic will be over by the time it arrives lol.

Really what I want to see if I can figure out is how I can get a proper phone ringer. I can probably make a device that listens for the tone then just continues to output another tone until I hit a button. Will see how long all of this lasts for to see if it's worth doing though. It would just be nice if I can get up and do stuff around the house like laundry. :p

No idea what I did but the tone goes to the speakers now, though it would still be nice if it was a normal ring tone and not a 1 time tone. But guess this will do. It's super quiet, hardly no calls, so I would hate to miss the one or two phone calls I might get all day on my line. :p

This is so neat being at home and watching all my work stuff though. I've actually had dreams like this before, where I'm working, but I'm at home. Wonder if my dreams were trying to tell me about the pandemic.

If you don't have bt built-in to your mb yeah then you need to get a bt headset with an usb bt stick.

When I was a kid my dad got me a train set. It was okay but since it was just a simple oval of track it got boring pretty quick. Little did I know it was based on a real railway.

It looks like a race track, but for trains. Train racing should totally be a thing. It would be kinda like slot cars but with trains.

Just don't let CN play they cheat, they would just jump off the tracks.

Wow if you want the Windows Vista experience in Linux, try installing Debian in a VM. Holy crap it's bloody slow. Every action you have to wait. Took about 2 hours to install. Something about lack of 3D acceleration. Apparently they removed some kind of feature that is now making it super slow when it's in a VM. Kinda sucks though, was hoping to keep it as a sandbox environment to run sketchy things.
