Pardon my ignorance, but, how? Couldn't they/you reset it? How did they permanently break it?

I'm not a networking guy. But best I can tell they farked the DNS server. Nothing was resolving. But the server also could not see all the computers on the network. So it could be something else/more. I gave up after 3 reboots and scanning the error logs. My diagnosis was "it's fucked".

Just read a bit on active directory. Looks like that's what got targeted. Glad I don't have to fix it.

Speaking of exposing AD to the outside, I can probably still login to the hospital AD network through Citrix and I have not worked there for years. I don't remember the default EHR password though so I'd only be able to go in MS Office and stuff.

I don't know how many times I brought that up to them when I worked there but they would not budge. They always wanted everything to be easy for users, and security does not make things easier.

lulz. I have worked in Hospitals. They are the biggest turds when it comes to adhering to proper IT standards.

This hospital I worked in was paying what amounts to a 4 U raid enclosure fully populated with drives a month to lease drive space from IBM...
