Pardon my ignorance, but, how? Couldn't they/you reset it? How did they permanently break it?
Just read a bit on active directory. Looks like that's what got targeted. Glad I don't have to fix it.

Speaking of exposing AD to the outside, I can probably still login to the hospital AD network through Citrix and I have not worked there for years. I don't remember the default EHR password though so I'd only be able to go in MS Office and stuff.
I don't know how many times I brought that up to them when I worked there but they would not budge. They always wanted everything to be easy for users, and security does not make things easier.
err, who exposed the AD to the outside?
