My roommate is 20k in debt. He's being going to school for 6 years. He also has a car loan. So I'm guessing 10k car 10k edu. He's graduating in may with his bachelors degree.

He does a really good job of buying only what he needs. Amazing job actually. Except for his diet coke... yuck!

Yeah, 20K is acceptable for being in school 6 years. That won't be an issue paying that back.

I'm just reminded of the CNN article where (IIRC) a couple incurred $200K+ in debt so they could both get masters degrees in social work. I mean seriously, how dumb can you be? Social work is one of the lowest paid professions there is, so if you're going to do it, you better have a way to pay as you go.

Because when you get a masters, the magical money faerie comes and gives you each a 6 figure income!

(Lots of people goto college for 6 years. Ya, they're called doctors.) 😛

I feel bad for my gf. Her parent's told her to go to this school because she had everything paid for. They said they would pay for grad school. Well her brother who graduated last spring lost all of his scholarships and the money her parent's had saved for her college went to his college degree.

Oh he went to a private school. $$$

That sucks for her... Pretty bad for her parents not to split money for their childern. I have a 529 for my first son and I'll have another seperate one for son #2

Also, transform in to DIAMOND MEMBER??

Well it was split. But they were planning on him going to a public school. Well he got into a private school with scholarships that brought it to public school pricing. So it all worked. Until he lost his scholarship money. He had like 3 or 4 semester left to graduate. No point of transferring and losing credits...
At that point the money that was saved for my gf was used to able him to finish school...

Again, as a parent, because the son lost the scholarships, I would have told him get loans to finish paying for it. This money is for your sister.

Agree 100%. If the parents promised the daughter that it would be paid for, well, they need to make it happen

meh. Her dad just claims that he never promised anything...

Oh well. She's smart. Has good social skills. She'll be fine...
No knock on her, just giving my input. Seems kinda messed up one child gets 100% of funds for college and the other gets a goose egg.

Well hopefully this means she's even more motivated to succeed.

What was his BA in? That seems odd to goto CC 2 years only to still goto a university for another 4.

idk. Probably something business related. At the time he was a finance manager at a furniture store. Now he's going to be a middle school teacher...
