I am a debt Nazi! Debt is bad. Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible to get a college degree without incurring debt. So my only debt is school related... and totals over $50000 anyways.

Your holy water, I spit in it!

If you are willing to work a few years full time or work while going to school it's not hard to get a degree with little debt.

I'm more and more convinced that the smart thing to do is spend the first couple of years at CC for the basic core courses. No need to pay big money to take English 101 and Speech 101 at a university.

I'm not motivated enough as is.

I should've gone to/stayed at a school where I lived on campus, it would help with the motivation problem significantly.

I am paying my way through school. My gf is about to graduate with not a dime of debt.

A lot of people have jobs to pay for school and rent / food. As long as you don't spend money of stuff like computers, cameras, turntables, cars, tv's, cigars, etc you should be fine... ;)

I work two jobs, and generally don't buy all that much, not even much for computers anymore. Just a car that needed replacing.

My gross annual income doesn't match the cost of my school per year.

Yeah, 20K is acceptable for being in school 6 years. That won't be an issue paying that back.

I'm just reminded of the CNN article where (IIRC) a couple incurred $200K+ in debt so they could both get masters degrees in social work. I mean seriously, how dumb can you be? Social work is one of the lowest paid professions there is, so if you're going to do it, you better have a way to pay as you go.

I'm facing 80k (including the interest to that point) by the time I graduate, for six years, to get a BS in EE. Shitty debt, lots of time, but at least it's a real degree, not some bullshit like, well, social work!

80K for a degree in EE!?! Holly shit. That's the kind of debt most would be looking at for a full law or medical degree with extra years. Here anyway.

25k from one year at RIT, 6-9k per year at state school, going to be five years at state school (because I'm a fuck up). There's 63k, and then interest is already about 3-4k right now.

What's the 25k for, for one year!? What's RIT?

Rochester Institute of Technology. A private co-ed school, some 16000 students, residing on a couple hundred acres outside Rochester NY. Socially, it's a very geeky/nerdy school, males have a sizable majority. Excellent CS, great engineering, and well known for its photography school.

I'll tell you this, after graduating don't do what I did. 6 months after working I bought a new 350z, moved into a nice apt with a roommate spliting $1150 or so a month.

Resist the urge to spend money and just either live at home, or a tiny apt and gtfo out of debt. You do this over 2-3 years and your late 20's and 30's will be SO much easier.

Also, set up a 401k or some retirement and start stashing away something every month, don't wait til your 30's to do this either.

I started my retirement at 23, but I didn't save and pay down my debt like I should have and it's still followed me.

I've been living at home for years now, and am already sick of it.
