Toyota/Scion is running a giveaway for 86 Scion FR-S's. I'm saying I'd take cash value or just flip the car for cash, then go buy myself a used Miata and do the V8 swap I want so much.

It wouldn't be replacing my G35x, it'd be a fair-weather summer-only supplement.

W.T.F.

Dude, you're a student. Save your time and money.

Eh, if only because you've already been using said items (eg cc debt).

Also MotF, chocolate and peanut butter don't go together?? wtfbbq is up with that? I don't know if there is a better union of any two foods.

I am a debt Nazi! Debt is bad. Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible to get a college degree without incurring debt. So my only debt is school related... and totals over $50000 anyways.

Your holy water, I spit in it!

I wouldn't want to keep that Scion, I flat out don't want the car. So if I win it, turn it into cash.

Then what? Cut off $35k debt? Yeah, that's sensible, but please see Locut0s' statement from the previous page. BLAAHHHH SENSIBILITY.

Heh almost to 2k posts!

50k of student debt?? I think I got my degree in mechanical engineering and kept debt around $12k. I specifically did NOT goto USC because after being accepted I saw yearly tuition being about $34k and said FFFFF that.

This is the year I plan to get my family out of debt, except for my truck and house. I should be able to get everything else paid off.

That is bullshit.

I said nearly, and nearly is true. I'm middle class, suburban, white. Both my parents work, and their combined income is a little south of six figures. They are still married to each other. I am not the first of my family to go to college. I graduated with a 3.2 GPA. I am not joining ROTC.

I did one year at RIT, which put on $25k of debt by itself. Since then, it's been about $6-8/yr at a state school... for which the tuition is rising at nearly $1000/yr.

I am paying my way through school. My gf is about to graduate with not a dime of debt.

A lot of people have jobs to pay for school and rent / food. As long as you don't spend money of stuff like computers, cameras, turntables, cars, tv's, cigars, etc you should be fine... ;)

I'm more and more convinced that the smart thing to do is spend the first couple of years at CC for the basic core courses. No need to pay big money to take English 101 and Speech 101 at a university.

I've seen a few too many of my close friends try that route and fail. It feels like a 13th grade to them. Not as motivating as a college.

Going to a real college imo is worth the debt.

Out of 6 friends who have tried that route 2 have made it to a real college. The rest have joined the Marine corps. 3 in infantry and 1 is MP.

I'd agree that if you must go into debt for something, an undergrad degree is one of the things worth going into debt for as long as you can mitigate the amount somewhat. The issue we're seeing is that a) people don't try to avoid taking out loans and b) grad school, in all but a few cases, is NOT worth going into huge debt for.

When I see idiots going into 6 figure debt for sociology degrees or degrees in library science, I have to wonder WTF they were thinking.

Part of my issue has always been motivation. I could literally coast through my courses, make As, and not care. I've been very motivated at different points in my career but you eventually get burned out and become cynical when it doesn't seem to get you anywhere.

I can see his argument Indy (about not being motivated), but I wish I went that route and will recommend that to my son when the time comes. If you aren't motivated at any college to succeed then atleast by going to CC you minimize the debt incurred.

My roommate is 20k in debt. He's being going to school for 6 years. He also has a car loan. So I'm guessing 10k car 10k edu. He's graduating in may with his bachelors degree.

He does a really good job of buying only what he needs. Amazing job actually. Except for his diet coke... yuck!

Possibly the reason they were not motivated was because they hadn't matured. Looking back it seemed they were a bit immature for their age.
