My solid black feral is such a sweetie since he's been fixed. I mistakenly cracked open a can of premium flaked albacore tuna. Not sure why I bought that from Whole Foods (delivery) but I wasn't sure he liked fish. So I put it out there for him. He seemed quite pleased. I'm extrapolating from the fact that he spent much longer licking his paws afterwards.

I'm sure he could have polished off the small can on his own, but he left some for one of the tiger striped cats to whom he's probably not closely related. Such a darling.

I have this theory about my full black feral. He's been living here for at least 3, maybe 4 years. When he first came here I watched him on high camera over the back walk. He was a real scrapper.

Once fixed, he was much more mellow, even sedate. But he's held his position of dominance all of those years by being more smart than aggressive. It's hard to explain but for example, when a new feral cat comes along, he has various methods for making sure they know their place.

Once they accept this, he's very magnanimous. For example, he will let the new, smaller kitties eat first and he'll quietly "stand guard" in some sense. And he's VERY patient from my human perspective.

I absolutely cannot tolerate waiting although I do have to say I've gotten much more accommodating.

Anyway, he'll sit there as long as it takes for the nubie to eat it's fill and "respectfully" walk away - as long as the new cat doesn't challenge him in any way. In that case, he might plant himself on the steps and force the other cat to walk past him w/o a second challenge.

edit: Btw, he's been eating VERY well all those years so he's quite beefy but not fat. Definitely more fit than fat. So one look at him and the other cats seem, on some level, to understand that they are out gunned. But of course, they're still cats, so they HAVE to push the envelope, at least until it's clear that the black cat has seen thru their bluff.

You got adopted, he's yours, or more like, you're his. :p

Kinda reminds me of this place I camped at a kid, the chipmunks and squirrels were practically like feral/pet cats. They'd come see us all the time for food, and hang out and such. Could spend all day just sitting around the camper and they'd come get a few peanuts, take off, come back 10 min later etc. It was our entertainment. They also got braver, where they'd climb all over us etc. Fun times. Can't wait to be more established on my off grid land and be able to relive that again. In the city it's harder with traffic etc, even if I do see a squirrel my train of thought is it will probably be dead within a week.

Have not seen squirrels around in a while here actually, but someone did see a moose this morning.

Went to order a new motherboard. Put in cart, shipped and sold by Amazon. Did my usual think about it over night. Ordered it in the morning. Shipping and sold by some terribly rated third party seller . Cancelled it and the next day it was available from Amazon again. Except it won’t be here till June 4th. The horror :p

I just completed the initial user training for our new Grand Unified Database of Everything®. The new database goes live in July. The collection of old databases it is replacing have used the same user interfaces since the 1980s. I wonder how many long-term employees will retire/resign by the end of July? The new user interface is okay but it's different.

The company tried updating the databases back in the late 90s and the effort collapsed when they realized, very late in the process, that they would have to train all employees to use Unix in order to access the database. Geezer employees still have the nifty coffee mugs the company had made to celebrate and promote the new database. :)
LOL! The live training is being run by the contractor who programmed the database, not actual company users with experience in the activities which the database supports. It is a disaster! The questions and corrections are outpacing the presentation 10:1. :p

secret to keep your bag of fresh spinach from spoiling is to keep it dry and cool. let the bag air out. it'll last weeks.

(trust me, I keep a bag of spinach on hand)

Was just upgrading my CPU and putting it all in a new case. Then my PSU died and took the motherboard with it. It did mod a couple of cable on the PSU to clean up the build (which I've done before). I may have shorted it somehow. I've decided, that for now on, I'll spend the extra $$s and get custom cables from CableMod - allot less expensive than a new mobo and PSU.

Not again. I guess Amazon's back end isn't scaling well. (clicked "checkout" button while viewing cart)
Wonder how many orders/minute it takes to max out . . .

That's a painful lesson. I remember sleeving a modular Antec before sleeving became commonplace. I never modded any wiring. I used cable mod on my server.
