so the CEO is in Vegas for CES and the owner is stuck in Wisconsin due to the weather (our little planes can't fly in this stuff).

However finance did just give me a check for what works out to be 16 hours of pay. No explanation, no nothing. It just says "additional compensation". Its a nice gesture but not at all what I was looking for.

They are buttering you up to stay man. They have been shafting you all along and expect you to continue to be a doormat.

My current job is doing this to somebody who is about to take a job offer at a much better company. They offered to pay for his PhD and give him a minor raise. But nothing will really change for him, and they are just trying to rope him in for another 3-4yrs min.

If you have some skills that are highly desireable, I'd say start looking elsewhere where you can get benefits. Just on that alone you are getting completely fucked by your current employer. That plus the OT you aren't getting (401k too???) I bet you are loosing out on thousands and thousands.

I made the mistake of doing the math on what I have missed in OT pay. Its not a small number. I hate it when I dwell on shit like this.

I'm going to chill. Otherwise I will just get mad again.

I'll update if/when something actually happens.

If you're a salaried empolyee you can't expect OT pay. But you should def. expect health insurance AND 401k benefits. Of which you seem to get none.

If you are hourly, DO expect OT, but maybe do not expect (great) benefits or 401k.

You seem to get none of the above. This is why I say look around for other places as this company seems to be taking advantage of you. I know finding a job is tough and you should not leave this place until you secure another job.. But you really should consider your options.

I think your anger is completely justified. Let's face it, you should've got paid THOUSANDS and chances are they threw pennies at you.

It's simply another "fuck you" from your boss any way you look at it.

Get your resume ready and start a job search pronto. Truth is, even if you get what you want (full time job)....you have to ask yourself. Do you REALLY want to work for a company like this?

That's almost as insulting as giving out a $50 gift card to your employees as a "Christmas bonus".

You've been more than reasonable. Fact is you might not be super special and you might be replaceable but you are being given the run around and being used. To them you're a handy man and they're exploiting you. They gave you two days of pay for what in their mind is probably Xmas and new years much like they probably did for their maid.

You have a kid and medical bills. Pull out your resume and run it by 707 if it needs some polishing. Get a job where they can at least show you a little bit of respect.

the ceo comes around xmas time at my company and hands out $100 amex giftcards and makes sure to tell us the 1 rule of spending it.

"the only rule is that you have to spend it on something for yourself and no one else."

but then a few days later, i was informed of my $5k bonus. that was nice :)

I was in a situation like this 14 years ago. I went out and got other job offers, and then when I found one I liked, I told the owner "I'm leaving for this position unless you want to make me a better counter offer".

They did. Been here ever since :)

LOL

So now that things are calming down a bit (there are only 3 more days until the buyout stores are off our hands) things are happening. I'm not going to say I was just handed an envelope of cash as a reward for my work with the thing.....but...

Personally, if it was me, I'd just go and talk to the CEO again. Tell them that you really enjoy working there, but you value your job security too. That your family has to depend on you having a stable permanent job. Temp was fine for awhile, but at some point, you need to find something more dependable as you have mouths to feed back home. If something can't be arranged soon, you may have to look elsewhere, even though you don't really want to do it as you like working there.

In many situations this is a chess game. They took their move. They moved a pawn up, blew smoke up your ass, and now it's your turn on what to do. You need to make the next move or nothing will happen. Put the ball in their court.

I really like this approach, you come off as some guy looking out for his family, don't come off too pushy and prevents 2 guys from having a pissing contest. Probably the best option at this point.
