Yeah, I've had the Nocturnum and didn't care too much for it. I still much prefer the St. B. I do enjoy the Delerium Tremens though.
Meh, personal tastes. I love the Nocturnum and don't really like the tremens...

St. Bernardus is by far one of my favorites. I still have an unopened case of it in the cellar. I bought it over the summer.

I just went to the beer store two days ago and walk out with $146 worth of beers. I was hoping to score some Troeg's Nugget Nectar, but I missed the window.

We used to get Nugget Nectar on CASK fairly frequently where I used to work (in PA which made distribution easy). It was awesome. Would always have Hop Back and Hop Devil on 2 casks, then rotate a third between other micros and a local brewpub.

Was in LA a few months ago and stopped at a Ralphs/Vons/wutevathehell to pick up some beer and was shocked that newcastle was the best thing i could find. The budweiser section was quite volumous tho :awe:

Yep the supermarkets don't carry anything micro or if it's a micro, it's a fairly large micro that you can get at any store.

Aha! I found a fancy-schmancy western grocery and lo and behold, they had Erdinger, Paulaner, Andechser and FRANZISKANER! Hahahahah! I didn't bother to see what they had in the way of Belgians as the German wheat beers were already sagging down my bag. Mmmmmmmm...

I was just happy to find it, cost me about $3.85 USD a bottle. The Erdinger and Paulaner costs $2 USD a bottle though but I like the Franziskaner more. Though I haven't had Paulaner or Franziskaner since I was in Munich a year and a half ago. So my memory may be a bit rose tinted. I do find the Franziskaner to have a bit more hops to its taste than the Erdinger.

My current favorites are New Belgium's Fat Tire and Mothership Wit. Some people have been telling me to check out their 1554 Enlightened Dark Ale. I haven't been able to get around to it yet, though.

I'd also like to reccomend a good local microbrew from here in Georgia, Sweetwater 420 if you haven't had tried it yet.

they sell most of those in the typical groceries I've been to (Jewel, TI, Safeway, Lucky, etc) from Chicago to the Bay Area.

no need for fancy schmancy grocers or premium prices in my experience. ;)

Spaten Optimator is usually ~$2.20 at Safeway for pint bottles. damn fine price for a nutty, Bavarian brew.

Where do you guys buy your fancy beers? The liquor stores I've been too don't have much better of a selection than the grocery stores.

as a chain, whole foods has a decent selection. other than that, i'm sure a local might be able to help you out. check out beeradvocate, they have store listings and reviews by town

Beer distributors and beer stores. In PA you can't buy booze in supermarkets or convenience stores, so you have to go to dedicated stores.

I'll have to try Whole Foods. Does World Market have a good beer selection?

Want a good beer that's really malty? Pick up Flying Dog's Garde Dog. I just cracked one open. It's very tasty and on the verge of being sweet. It's a French farmhouse-style ale.
