^ I still have no clue how it works... do you just follow the direction it points until something pops up? Wasn't really clear that it was even pointing...

There will be a little light on top of the survey tool - Green, Yellow, or Red (Near to Far) - which roughly indicates how far in the indicated direction. The faster the colored light flashes, the closer the relic is.

I leveled Archaeology on my main, got my Professor title, and quite frankly would rather have a battery acid enema than do it again.

I looked into doing this today as it's a good tip, but it turns out the carnelian gems themselves are going for 60g each... and for the spikes you need 3 carnelian... if DE'd, you get 3 greater celestial essences (or dust) each, so it's a straight up trade since on my server, GCE are also 60g - that's if you even get the GCE from the DE.

As for the nightstone choker, etc. items that you DE, I got a whole bunch of dust which go for 1g each, but nightstones go for 14g each.

So this tactic is not worthwhile on my server. :(

I have 75k gold so it's not really worth the effort for miniscule gains... thought this would be an easy way to go...

Yea it's all server dependent. On my servers the spikes are a decent money maker ~15g profit per set of spikes over time:
Essences
Carnelian

The nightstones aren't worth it on my server but it can turn some sort of profit out of the other colored gems and I have a working relationship with a couple miners on my server. You know CoD anytime type of dealyos.

are there any donate-to-play vanilla wow servers? I want donate-to-play to ensure it's actually a good experience. I also don't want to be able to just rocket to level 60. Want to play from the ground up.

I remember distinctly where someone actually cloned their own WoW Vanilla server and you could create your account with them and play on that server. Their website even modeled the older version of wow.com. I can't for the life of me remember what the url was, but I think it was more or less free.

the forums are awash in rage over the +7% xp/rep bonus for the 7th Anniversary... I don't get it.

+7% rep might make me run a few heroics on my 85 and it will certainly be helpful for the shaman I'm leveling up (currently level 65 and looking to reach Northrend as soon as possible)

on a side-note, anyone think the level 70 PvP weapons are worth picking up for leveling? I've only got the one BoA mace on my dwarf shaman and no desire to buy a second one, since my shaman will likely be the last 1-handed weapon character I ever level.

http://www.wowhead.com/item=35071

I bought the level 60 PvP mace, enchanted it with mongoose, and it's been great for leveling, but I'm wondering if the level 70 epic will last as long.

A good end-expansion epic will usually last for maybe 3-5 levels over the cap. The Borean reward isn't better than that weapon: http://www.wowhead.com/item=38238

I started healing on my Druid. I went from doing normals to doing heroics, which weren't as bad as I thought they would be. Although, I did start with 359 epics on my hands, waist, legs, feet; higher for my rings and a friend gave me the valor bracers. It's not too shabby so far, but I've got a lot of things to work on. I'm having the same problem that I've always had where my clique dispel binding (shift+left click) screws with my ability to quickly click on someone and hit Shift+(some number). A good example is when I go to use Rejuvenation (Shift+2) and I end up dispelling. Now that you can dispel regardless of there being anything to actually dispel, that's not a good thing. :(

ive seen people complaining that they didnt get a pet and people complaining that other people cant read and keep asking how long the item is good for. maybe since it is limited use, people wanted something more permanent is my only guess.

thanks. I might run a random BG or two tonight and see how the alliance is playing in my bracket (I got the honor for the level 60 epic after 2 random games)... I've been trying to stick with maces for the dwarf racial bonus, and since expertise seems hard to come by on leveling gear (at least up till now; my shaman is only 65 and just started questing in BEM)

Eh, I guess I don't worry too much about the expertise while leveling. It's always nice to have the bonus while working up, but the gear is pretty expendable. Also, everyone knows you never go Full Dwarf (as a Shaman).

About the 7% bonus, I think Blizzard must have realized, "wait a minute... why give them a pet for free when we can charge $10 for it!" People would have a huge conniption if they sold exp/rep bonuses, so that's okay to give out temporarily. ;)

EDIT:

But this means I need to work on some of my toons and their leveling. I went through on every non-85 and got the Hallow's Eve 2 hour +10% experience/reputation buff before the event ended as well.

Turkey Terminator achieve is tough. I get to like 23 and run out of turkeys :|

When I did that last year, I actually went to Tirisfal Glades (Undead lowbie area), and it also helps if you do not do it during the day.

EDIT:

It should also be significantly easier if you use a macro (/tar plump turkey (I think that's the name) + ranged ability) this year, because of how they put your current target on the mini-map!

It makes me wonder if they'll be improving the human model as it looked quite a bit better in that video.

Agreed, I bet we hit beta around February or so.

Not a chance.

It was a year after ICC was released that we got cataclysm. 4.3 isn't going to be live for a few more weeks.

I would say this.... the earliest we would see MoP will be next fall.

They are speeding up the expansion cycle. Cataclysm is supposed to be a 1.5 year expansion instead of a 2+ year expansion like the previous ones (at least that's what I believe).

I'm also expecting the Pandas beta to hit around Feb-March and release around June-July.

Do we have a lot of "vanilla" players in this thread? I have an interesting thought experiment.

Lets say the next raid's first encounter is an perfect mechanical re-creation of Lucifron.
http://www.wowhead.com/npc=12118#comments

All stats, abilities, damage, and other values would be scaled up perfectly so that Tier 12 geared players would be hit as hard as green geared players were hit by original lucifron.

Abilities:

* Impending Doom: AoE Magic De-buff much like call of the grave. 10 seconds to dispell everyone possible, or they receive an instant 2000~ damage.

2000 damage to a vanilla green-geared 60 was about 50%-70% of their max hp. I'm not active currently, but I understand a tier 12 geared non-tank would have something around 150k hp, sound right? So neolucifron's doom would do 90k damage.

* Lucifron's Curse: This curse will increase mana/rage/energy cost of all abilitys by 100%

Unchanged, except to add focus to list of ability costs increased.

* Lucifron's adds also have a spell called Dominate Mind, much like a Priest version of Mind Control. This can be dispelled by a Priest's dispel, but CANNOT be dispelled by a Paladin's cleanse since it only works on friendly targets. For Horde, Shamans are able to Purge this if a Priest is not able to.

Unchanged.

Would it be too easy, too hard, or "just right"? My friend who currently raids thinks it would be a joke, as in his opinion raiders today are much better players overall than the original molten core raiders. I'm not so sure, I feel like the modern raid design is very predictable and controlled and the chaos of a boss + 2 adds + mind controls would wreck a raid of players who have just been training to stand where the boss mod tells them to stand.

2 weeks.

End of Season 10 is next week.. 11/29
That would put 4.3 at 12/6

the version on ptr is RELEASE version

ptrReleaseAgain.jpg

and the last ptr update didn't make any major changes. it's ready to go.

I don't think it would be that hard, assuming the mechanics were such that you had 12% of your raid (5 mages) capable of dispelling the debuff without seeing significant dps loss on the adds (because you had another 30 dps'ers to pick up the slack)

I'd disagree that today's raiders are "better," but addons have trivialized a number of the most challenging mechanics from vanilla (threat, standing far apart, etc)

We were all pretty terrible players as far as game mechanics and min/maxing goes back then. Encounters are much more complex now.

i disagree. today's raiders are much WORSE overall players than the original MC raiders.

I was in a MC raid guild back in vanilla, and we had to do everything without add-ons. Hell, we didn't even have Vent. Everything was done thru TeamSpeak.

Healers actually had to pay attention to health bars.. tanks had to watch the aggro levels closely, because KTM sucked... Remember everyone waiting for 5-stacks of sunder?
